Perhaps the strangest couple in the restaurant was herself and her boyfriend. Ye Peipei was truly helpless. All the other sweet couples would enter the restaurant hand in hand, then sit there gazing at each other tenderly, occasionally feeding each other.
But what about herself and her boyfriend? Ye Peipei glanced at her boyfriend, who was walking ahead with his head down, and sighed inwardly. Her boyfriend strode into the restaurant like a block of wood, and she had to practically run to keep up.
Once seated, her boyfriend simply picked up the menu without even looking up and asked, "Peipei, what do you want to eat?" Ye Peipei thought to herself, "Why don't you at least look at me before asking?" But she still said, "Anything is fine, you can order."
Her boyfriend hummed in agreement and quickly ordered the food. The atmosphere was awkwardly quiet as they waited for the food to arrive. Ye Peipei tried to start a conversation: "Honey, how was work today?" Without looking up, her boyfriend replied, "The same old thing, nothing special." Ye Peipei's smile froze.
Just then, the couple at the next table were playfully teasing each other, their laughter filling the air. Ye Peipei couldn't help but glance at her boyfriend again, her disappointment growing even stronger. The food arrived, and her boyfriend remembered to put some on Ye Peipei's plate, but he said, "Eat more, you've lost weight lately." Ye Peipei couldn't help but say, "Can't you say that more gently?" Her boyfriend was taken aback, seemingly not understanding what he had done wrong.
After finishing their meal, her boyfriend went to pay the bill. Ye Peipei sat at her table, lost in thought. She remembered when they first got together, her boyfriend would take good care of her and say many sweet words, but she didn't know when it started, everything had changed.
After paying the bill, her boyfriend came over and said, "Let's go." Ye Peipei stood up, and the two walked out of the restaurant in silence. The wind outside was a bit chilly, and Ye Peipei couldn't help but hunch her shoulders. Only then did her boyfriend notice, and he took off his coat and draped it over her shoulders. Ye Peipei felt a little warmer inside.
"Peipei, have I been neglecting you lately?" her boyfriend suddenly asked. Ye Peipei's nose tingled with tears: "Think about it yourself, how long has it been since we had a proper date, like a normal couple?" Her boyfriend stopped and took Ye Peipei's hand: "I'm sorry, it's my fault. I've been under too much work pressure and have neglected your feelings."
Looking at her boyfriend's guilty eyes, Ye Peipei softened: "I know you work hard, but I also need your care and companionship." Her boyfriend nodded: "I understand, I will be more careful in the future."
Since then, her boyfriend seems to have really changed. On weekends, he would suggest going to the movies and would even secretly hold Ye Peipei's hand while watching the film. When eating out, he would no longer silently order food but would first ask Ye Peipei what she liked.
One day, her boyfriend mysteriously said to Ye Peipei, "I'm taking you somewhere tonight." Ye Peipei followed him, full of curiosity. It turned out that her boyfriend took her to a seaside restaurant, which was decorated very romantically, with flowers and candles everywhere.
“Peipei, I want to give you another wonderful date,” her boyfriend said. Ye Peipei was moved to tears. That night, they seemed to have returned to the time when they were deeply in love, chatting and laughing, feeling incredibly sweet.
However, this happy period didn't last long. Her boyfriend's work suddenly became even busier, and he started leaving early and coming home late again. Although Ye Peipei understood, she still felt a little disappointed. One day, Ye Peipei fell ill and called her boyfriend, but he said he was working overtime and couldn't leave. Ye Peipei had no choice but to go to the hospital alone.
When her boyfriend arrived at the hospital after get off work, Ye Peipei had already finished her IV drip and fallen asleep. Looking at her haggard face, her boyfriend was filled with remorse. "Peipei, I'm so sorry," he whispered.
When Ye Peipei woke up, she saw her boyfriend looking guilty, and a wave of grievance welled up inside her: "You're always like this. You're never there when I need you." Her boyfriend hugged her tightly: "I've decided to change jobs. I can't lose you because of work again."
In the days that followed, her boyfriend started looking for a new job. Although the process wasn't smooth, he never gave up. Finally, he found a relatively easy job that would allow him more time to spend with Ye Peipei.
Their lives gradually returned to normal, and they were able to go shopping together, cook together, and enjoy quality time together like other couples. Ye Peipei knew that love requires effort and commitment from both sides, and they had finally found their own rhythm of happiness.
