Chapter 2 Meteor Shower

I'm definitely not going to keep my job at the computer company.

When Han Ming first asked for leave to come back, he had to go through a lot of persuasion with Qin Jianguo, the department director whose bald head looked so shiny that it seemed like a fly would break its legs if it stood on it, before he finally got permission to take three days off.

But now, more than ten days have passed. At first, the company sent someone to call and ask why I hadn't returned home to cancel my leave. But in the last two days, my phone has been unusually quiet.

The company has a clear policy that employees who are absent from work without cause for more than five days will be considered to have resigned automatically.

It seems the company considers him a non-returnee, and he has no hope of receiving his salary for the past two weeks.

However, this is not the most troublesome thing for him at the moment.

You can find another job, but if my father can't repay his bank loan, his small factory could be sued and seized.

Although the factory is dilapidated, it represents decades of my father's hard work. If it were to disappear, how could my father's health possibly improve?

A few days ago, we had used up all the money we had to deal with the creditors who were blocking the hospital, our home, and the factory gates and demanding payment.

Just as I was about to go to Ni Guohai's house to demand an explanation, his wife, upon hearing that her husband had gambled away 3 million yuan of the factory's public funds, immediately picked up a bottle of pesticide from under the long table and drank it.

If Han Ming hadn't been there and rushed her to the hospital for a stomach lavage, who knows what kind of tragedy might have occurred.

The bank still owes 1 million yuan. Yesterday, a bank employee said that they would strictly follow the contract.

With only half a month left, if the debt cannot be repaid by the due date, an application for property preservation will be made to the court. At that time, a seal will be affixed to the factory gate, and then an auction will be organized.

Han Ming was truly driven to the brink. This young man, who had never experienced so many troubles coming one after another, was so shocked by these successive situations that he was at a loss.

It is said that men do not easily shed tears, but when I think of my father lying in the hospital bed...

His mother, who hadn't slept soundly for many days, looked old, and had half-gray hair, constantly reminded Han Ming that he had to shoulder the burden of the family and help them get through the difficult times.

But the pressure of reality still overwhelmed Han Ming, who had little experience in the real world, to the point that he could hardly breathe, and tears involuntarily rolled down his cheeks.

"As a man, you should act like a man. What good does crying and whining do? What about your dreams?"

Are the tears on your face a reflection of your past ambitions? Every one of us at Super...Line Company...will never be…”

Suddenly, a voice that sounded like an old man came from the quiet factory. It was like a shout that was close at hand, but then it suddenly drifted away. The short sentence became indistinct in the end.

Han Ming, who was sitting on the overhead crane, was startled by the sudden sound and almost fell off the crane.

He quickly steadied himself, held his breath, and listened intently.

After listening carefully for a while, there was no further sound, but the ringing of his cell phone in his pocket startled him again.

Han Ming initially thought it was his mother calling from the hospital, so he quickly took out his phone. However, upon checking the caller ID, he realized it wasn't his mother, Chen Fang, but Dong Xiaolu, a colleague from Zhenyu Network Company.

Of course, at this point, we might need to add the words "former" before "colleague".

This girl works in the finance department. Could it be that she contacted me to ask for my salary for the better part of the month?

A sense of anticipation rose in Han Ming's heart.

For him, who was desperately short of money, even a small amount was a lifeline, so he quickly pressed the answer button.

"Han Ming, is that you? Why haven't you come to work for so long? What happened?"

Dong Xiaolu's pleasant voice came from the other end of the phone. It wasn't affected or affected; in the night, it sounded as clean and melodious as a nightingale's song, which complemented her delicate appearance perfectly.

Hearing that sweet female voice, Han Ming immediately felt refreshed, as if all the fatigue of the past few days had vanished. He quickly replied:

"It's Xiaolu. Something happened at home, so I won't be going back to the company."

"What?"

Dong Xiaolu's voice on the other end of the phone was noticeably louder.

"Why have you suddenly stopped coming to work? You didn't switch jobs, did you?"

As Han Ming listened to Dong Xiaolu's question, he could clearly sense a hint of dissatisfaction and blame in it.

He thought to himself, "There are so many things going on at home, how can I explain them to you in such a short time?"

Besides, even if I quit, it's none of your business.

Could it be that this phone call isn't to pay my salary, but to interrogate me?

However, although Han Ming thought this way, he didn't dare to say it too casually. After all, the girl was calling late at night, and no matter what her purpose was, it was still a sign of concern.

So he responded:

"No, really no, something really happened at home."

But the pretty girl over there became even more annoyed by Han Ming's obviously perfunctory answer, and snorted:

"Han Ming, don't try to fool me. You must have gone to see the meteor shower, right?!"

Meteor shower? What does that have to do with anything?

Han Ming was speechless. He had been so busy dealing with creditors these past few days that he was completely overwhelmed and had no time to watch any meteor shower.

For a moment, he felt bewildered and didn't know how to answer Xiaolu.

When Dong Xiaolu heard Han Ming stammering on the phone, unable to speak, she concluded that the kid had faked taking leave and was actually skipping work to go see the meteor shower.

He said with even greater dissatisfaction:

"Han Ming, you're so unreliable. You've been so busy watching the meteor shower that you've missed so many days of work, and you even lied to me that you had something to do at home."

Han Ming felt annoyed upon hearing this.

I thought to myself, I'm already at my wit's end, and you're still giving me this nonsense.

Since it wasn't a payday notification, I lost the desire to continue the conversation, and so I said coldly:
