Chapter 25 (25) Wedding Night, Mutual Testing (Part 2)
What...repay a favor?
Lianzhi was stunned for a moment before realizing that he was referring to her previous deliberate approach. Lianzhi blushed, but Bai Kang reached out, grabbed his collar, and dragged him to the bed.
The bed was neither too wide nor too narrow, perfectly sized for Bo Kang and even more room for Lian Zhi. But with two of them squeezed together, it was too cramped. The strong odor of alcohol filled Lian Zhi's nose, and she started coughing violently, her eyes stinging from the smoke.
"Repay a favor... Why don't you repay a favor?" Bai Kang's tone sounded a bit confused and aggrieved.
No, you can't ask that.
Asking this would make Lianzhi think that he was eager to repay his gratitude, wouldn't it?
Bo Kang was so drunk that his ability to think was weakened. After thinking for a long time, he said, "Repaying a favor is fine. I allow you to do so!"
What a mess! What kind of drunken talk is this?
Lianzhi was so anxious that he was dying. Bai Kang held him tightly and he couldn't run away. Lianzhi struggled for a while, but found that he couldn't get away. He couldn't help but shout: "Let me go! Let me go!"
No answer.
Because this time, Bai Kang really fell asleep.
"Brother Xiaoliu, are we still sending hot water in?"
Hearing Lianzhi's cries coming from the bridal chamber, Xiaoye was a little frightened. Master Lianzhi was shouting so loudly, I'm afraid they would have to send hot water again soon.
"What are you giving me? Please don't give me any!" Xiao Liu, on the contrary, looked miserable. Xiao Ye scratched his head, very confused.
The wedding night is such a happy occasion, why is Brother Xiao Liu not happy? It's strange.
The next morning, Bai Kang woke up slowly.
He slept soundly and deeply. When he woke up, he had a slight headache, but it wasn't a big deal. He was still wearing his wrinkled wedding gown. Although it was thick, the buttons were undone, so he didn't feel constrained.
There was something soft and warm in his arms. Bo Kang reached out and squeezed it; it felt soft too. He looked down and saw it was Lianzhi's face. Lianzhi lay in his arms, her face flushed and hot from sleep.
Lotus branch!
Why is Lianzhi in his arms!
Bai Kang was completely stunned, not daring to move. A moment later, Lianzhi woke up, rubbing her eyes and sitting up. He suddenly became nervous and was about to ask a question when the beautiful boy's lifeless eyes, which had just woken up, turned around. After taking in Bai Kang's face, he suddenly burst into tears of grievance.
She was really crying, not pretending to cry for the sake of being spoiled or causing trouble. Bai Kang could see that Lianzhi was truly sad.
He, he wouldn't really do anything to Lianzhi, right?
"You stink!" Lianzhi burst into tears, tears streaming down her face like crazy. "You reek of alcohol! It stinks! I want to... I want to wipe you down, but you won't let me go. The stink is so bad I can't sleep! I didn't fall asleep until almost dawn!"
He really did not fall asleep until daybreak. Up to now, he had only slept for a few hours. He was angry and had a headache! After hearing this, Bai Kang felt funny and helpless. He patted Lianzhi's back gently: "It's my fault, don't cry. You...ah, don't cry."
Lianzhi didn't listen to him and continued crying, her eyes red. He got angry because he didn't get enough sleep in the morning. He usually slept five hours a day.
"I'm going to chop off your head..." Lianzhi said crying.
"Go ahead, chop it off. It's my fault. I'll let you chop it off." Bo Kang sighed as he spoke. "Don't cry. People will think I bullied you. Don't cry, Lian'er. I apologize. I'll go take a shower now."
After hearing the last sentence, Lianzhi finally stopped crying. He got out of bed to change his clothes. He was still wearing his wedding dress from yesterday. It was beautiful, and he wanted to keep it.
Bai Kang returned to his room to bathe, and had two buckets of hot water brought to each of their rooms. Everyone in the mansion's faces were filled with genuine or fake joy, but for some reason, Xiao Liu's expression was strange.
After washing up again, Bai Kang smelled the scent of soapberry on his body, and then sniffed the wedding dress he had taken off and thrown aside.
It smells of alcohol.
People in Liangzhou love wine better than those in the capital, and Lianzhi lives in a place like Chunfeng Tower, yet she actually hates the smell of alcohol. She is truly spoiled.
Bai Kang smiled and shook his head, and ordered the kitchen to prepare some easily digestible food and send it to Lianzhi, so that he could eat it before going to sleep - Lianzhi said he wanted to catch up on sleep. He had not eaten last night and had been hungry for a whole day and night, and his body was almost starving.
On this rare, free holiday, with nothing to do, Bo Kang lay in the yard, reading a travelogue with great interest. Not long after, Xiao Liu ran over, looking terrified, carrying a tray.
"Sir, the young master's door cannot be opened!" Xiao Liu said.
Can’t open?
Bai Kang was startled, worried that Lianzhi was doing something sneaky, and even more worried that something had happened to Lianzhi, so he hurried to knock on the door. After knocking for a long time without any response, Bai Kang asked the servants around to move away and knocked hard on the crack of the door.
The door opened.
Lianzhi was lying in the tub, having actually fallen asleep, with half of her body sticking out of the tub, almost falling in. Seeing this, Bo Kang breathed a sigh of relief, yet felt a little guilty.
It's indeed his fault. He drank too much last night.
But who could have imagined that Lianzhi would be so delicate that she even fell asleep in the bathtub.
Bai Kang dug out a towel blanket, wrapped the person up, wiped him, and tucked him back into bed. The moment Lianzhi touched the blanket, she instantly curled up into a small ball.
It's quite cute, like a kitten.
He looked at it a few more times before leaving. When he was about to go out, he caught a glimpse of a box under the table.
Why does he look so familiar?
Bai Kang instantly became alert, tiptoed over, and picked up the box. After just one glance, his gaze instantly turned cold.
Isn't this the box in his study?
How did you get the lotus branch?
But soon, he realized something was wrong.
The box is too light.
He opened the brocade box and found nothing inside. He put the box back where it belonged, left the room, and closed the door. Bo Kang asked, "Who gave him the yellow box in his room?"
"My Lord, it's me." Lian Ye suddenly came over and said timidly, "Master Lian Zhi wanted a beautiful empty box as an ornament. I saw that box was the best-looking one in the storeroom, so I brought it here."
Warehouse? Not study?
Bai Kang carefully recalled the appearance of the box, and it did seem slightly different from the box he had kept the jade Buddha in. He returned to his study and saw the gift he had prepared still sitting on the table, untouched.
There were so many things in the Shangshu Mansion that he couldn't possibly remember everything. Perhaps he had made a mistake and wronged Lianzhi. Thinking of this, Bai Kang returned to the courtyard half-believingly and continued reading.
It was not until the evening that Lianzhi slowly woke up.
Finally, he had enough sleep and was in a much better mood. Even though he saw his desk being turned over, he didn't get angry.
After changing his clothes, Lianzhi went to the kitchen first. He didn't ask the cook for help, but simply grabbed some rice and cooked a bowl of porridge—though he didn't know if porridge was cooked that way, or if it was edible. Anyway, he watched the rice cook and become soup, then he took the bowl and walked towards Bai Kang's study.
Someone was cleaning the study. Lianzhi ignored him and went in. The man was about to greet her, but when he saw it was him, he froze.
It's lotus seeds.
Lianzi was wiping the bookcase when he saw Lianzhi, whom he hated the most. He didn't know whether to salute her or not - after all, Lianzhi was already Bai Kang's wife.
When he thought of this, he felt even more sad.
"Let me do it," Lianzhi put down the bowl and said to Lianzi. It was rare for him to speak to Lianzi calmly. Before they met, either Lianzi looked at him with resentful and jealous eyes, or Lianzhi scolded him back arrogantly.
Lianzi overinterpreted this and wondered if it was because she had become his wife that she was flaunting her power and provoking him. It was clear that Lianzhi's status was lower than his, and she didn't necessarily like Master Bai as much as he did, yet she became his wife. How unfair!
"It's okay, I'll do it." Lianzhi smiled very kindly, walked over and snatched the rag from Lianzi's hand, and started to wipe the chair. But his movements were too clumsy, and he couldn't wipe it clean after wiping for a long time. Lianzi couldn't bear it anymore, and said, "Let me do it..."
In the scramble for the rag, someone spilled the bowl of porridge on the table. Most of it spilled, splattering onto the floor and all over Lianzhi. The box on the floor also got a little stained, dampening a small area.
"What's going on?"
Bai Kang had heard the noise a long time ago and, fearing someone had messed up his things, rushed over to check on the situation. Seeing the scene in the study, he was speechless. Lian Zi quickly distanced herself from the matter and explained everything clearly.
"You go first." Bo Kang waved his hand, signaling Lianzi to go out first. His eyes fell on Lianzhi's face, with suspicion in his eyes. "What are you doing here?"
"I thought I was going to show off now that I'm your wife, so I wanted to clean your study," Lianzhi said aggrievedly. The red marks from crying hadn't faded from the corners of his eyes, and his fingers were red from being burned. He was adept at playing pitiful. "I even made you porridge myself... but I'm clumsy and can't cook it well..."
There was still a little porridge left in the bowl. Bo Kang suddenly felt a headache and held his forehead with his hand, saying, "You don't need to do this."
Lianzhi's expression improved a little, and she hesitated and said, "But, but don't other wives need... to help their husbands do something?"
Hearing the word "husband", Bai Kang felt a little complicated.
"You don't have to do anything. You don't have to do anything." Bo Kang sighed, "Go back to your room and play. I'll call you for dinner."
Even after he said that, Lianzhi's expression didn't improve much. She said sullenly, "I'm just too stupid. I'm sorry."
Something is wrong.
Why is Lianzhi suddenly so self-reflective?
Although Bo Kang was puzzled and had no idea what he was going to do, he could only attribute it to Lianzhi's own stupidity. He could only console Lianzhi with a few words and coax her back in a gentle manner. After Lianzhi left, he began to clean the chair himself.
Alas, what a miserable life.
After cleaning up the mess, Bai Kang was relieved to make sure the gift was still intact. It wasn't just the lotus branches; he couldn't let the lotus seeds into his study anymore. The lotus seeds were sent by Chen Fengke. In the past, they'd only come over to serve tea when he was in the study, but today, they'd come in on their own.
As he thought about it, he picked up the bowl of porridge and took a sip.
It tastes terrible, and the rice isn't cooked through. Never let lotus twigs into the kitchen again.
