◇ Chapter 81 (81) Trust Your Husband More
Back then, several of his secret guards had died or been injured protecting him, with An Shiwu even stabbed in the throat, barely alive. Even then, he couldn't protect himself, leaving only An Shi and An Shiyi desperately protecting them, hiding around the palace and stalling for a few days.
The secret guards have no family and are free from any ties. If they wanted to betray him, they would have done it long ago.
"Lian'er, how about..." Bai Kang spoke again, his meaning self-evident. Lianzhi looked at An Shi, then turned back to look at Bai Kang. After thinking for a moment, she said, "Take him back. Don't kill him."
No matter what, An Shi had risked his life to protect him. After all, they were king and subject, so he would spare An Shi's life.
An Shiyi was startled, his expression becoming complicated. Lianzhi then added, "Take him to Xiao Wenzi's place. They know each other, and Xiao Wenzi must be eager to see him."
This time, An Shi suddenly looked up.
He had been very curious about how that person could have asserted that Prince Zhulan from the North Sea could be their Majesty, after all, he had seen the Majesty's corpse with his own eyes. But when he was sent to the Fanfang and saw Prince Zhulan from afar, he also suddenly realized it.
Three years have passed, and their Majesty has not changed at all.
Lianzhi specifically told him not to make a sound, so Bokang secretly took her out and had someone guard her. When he returned to the room, he saw Lianzhi had already closed the window and was sitting glumly on the edge of the bed. He went over and pinched her soft cheeks: "Are you sad?"
Lianzhi snorted softly. Bo Kang continued to comfort her, "Don't be sad. Didn't he say he didn't want to kill you? He was just threatened. No one betrayed you. Don't be sad."
"That's it." Lianzhi whispered, "They came to kill me because I implicated them. I'm unhappy just thinking about it."
The emphasis was clearly on being implicated. Bo Kang laughed silently.
Who said Lianzhi was bad? He is obviously the best child in the world.
"Could it be An Eleven?" Lianzhi continued to speculate, "He said someone betrayed me. Since he doesn't want to kill me, it can't be An Fifteen, right? An..."
Before he could finish, the scene in front of him suddenly spun. Bo Kang held the man on his lap and said, "Don't think about it. Go to sleep."
"Why are you sleeping?" Lianzhi grabbed Bo Kang's hand that was inserted into his lapel and bared her teeth viciously.
Bo Kang coughed and said, "The jeweled necklace you were wearing just now is quite beautiful."
"Didn't you say you were going back home?" Lianzhi sneered.
That was because he was so focused on guarding against the assassin that he was afraid of being distracted by the lotus branches. Now the assassin had been caught, the windows were closed, and there was no one in the room anymore... Bo Kang finally gave up pretending and pleaded in a low voice, "Put it on again and show me, baby."
"Okay." Lianzhi raised the corner of her mouth slightly, "Since you like it very much, I'll let you see it again."
It was cold at the end of the year, with a cold wind howling outside the window, but the house was cozy and warm. The sound of tinkling jade floated out of the window, as if swaying with the wind, as clear as jade beads rolling down, with faint, short sounds and breathing sounds.
Lianzhi decided never to listen to Bai Kang again. He was so tired that he just wanted to hug his pillow and fall asleep, but Bai Kang kept moving, playing with his fingers with his left hand, looking very excited and energetic. In order to make Bai Kang let him go quickly, Lianzhi used a trump card and said with all her strength, "The evidence is not enough. The princess would not let her men do such a thing. Go check the Qiang caravans in the capital and report any unusual movements."
Bai Kang suddenly stopped and began to think about Lian Zhi's words. Just as Lian Zhi was glad that she could finally sleep well, Bai Kang said, "You were thinking about this just now?"
As he finished speaking, his movements became more aggressive. Lianzhi screamed, and Bo Kang tugged at the silver chain hanging on his elbow. "That's my business, baby, don't worry about it. Just focus on it now."
"I'm thinking about you." Lianzhi snorted.
Bo Kang kissed him on the corner of his mouth: "I have already figured out this matter. Please have more trust in your husband."
When the sun is high in the sky, the lotus branches lift the quilt.
Very good, this time it was Bo Kang who left him here.
There was a commotion outside. The inn was already a mixed bag, and ever since their arrival, the people from the North Sea and the people from Daning had been having trouble communicating, making the situation even more chaotic. He was just about to call someone in to see if someone had started a quarrel again, but when he opened the door, he found Yuyao walking past him, holding Xi Niang's hand.
Seeing that he was awake, Yu Yao's eyes lit up and she turned around and said, "I'll take you out."
When Xi Niang saw him, she lowered her head, looking like a shy girl. Lian Zhi narrowed her eyes and looked at her. After Yu Yao sent him to the carriage and went upstairs to his room, she asked, "When did you become close to her?"
"You don't know." Yuyao answered happily, "She is a nice person. She said she would come to accompany me often and bring Chang Yuzhu with her."
Lianzhi held her forehead with her hand. "She must know that you have feelings for Chang Yuzhu, yet she still says such things. Don't you find it strange? If this gets out, wouldn't it be a joke for you, a princess of the Yilu tribe, to compete with someone else for her?"
"No way." Yu Yao opened her mouth wide, "Aren't they said that women in Daning are very gentle?"
Lianzhi didn't know whether to say she was too naive. Even the best-tempered person couldn't stand someone coveting their fiancé. Just then, Geerer came in with snacks and tea. He glanced at Yuyao, seeing her bewildered expression, and whispered, "Prince, Arus is back. The Ministry of Rites did go to the Chamber of Commerce to investigate their recent movements, and then they came to the palace."
Lianzhi frowned.
Could it be that he was wrong?
Hearing Bai Kang's words "there have been clues for a long time" last night, he always felt something was wrong and still suspected that Bai Kang was involved in this matter. Now it seems that Bai Kang also didn't know?
"What about the eldest princess?" Lianzhi asked.
"Arus said that the people on the princess' side recognized him, but they just watched him from afar and didn't see anyone who looked like Lord Bai's men." Geer replied.
"Forget it." Lianzhi sighed and took a bite of the rose cake in her hand. "Leave two pieces for me!"
"This is delicious." Yu Yao said, "Who is the eldest princess? Have we met at the palace banquet? Xi Niang also mentioned the eldest princess and said that you would have a good relationship with her."
Lianzhi turned her head suddenly: "What did you say?"
"Xi Niang said that you would have a good relationship with the eldest princess." Yu Yao said truthfully.
How could Yan Xi Niang say such a thing when she had only met him a few times? Lian Zhi had doubted whether she knew about his connection with Bai Kang, but now, he was suddenly unsure.
The posthouse wasn't too far from Bai Kang's villa—though Bai Kang had more savings than he'd imagined, he'd bought all his properties near the city's outskirts, perhaps to save himself money. Lianzhi changed into casual clothes and went to the villa to meet Eunuch Wen. Yuyao followed, saying she wanted to be his guard since Arus was away.
Walking over, Lianzhi was about to ask the guard to open the door for him when a familiar carriage stopped at the door. Qinghe followed Bai Kang out of the carriage after lifting the curtain. Seeing the disguised Lianzhi, Bai Kang was a little surprised: "Lian'er?"
"Why are you here?" Lianzhi narrowed her eyes.
Looking at the sky, it was indeed time for the six departments to leave their posts and go home. But why did Bai Kang come to the other courtyard? He was about to ask, but Bai Kang grabbed his arm and said hurriedly, "Lian'er, come in with me first."
Behind her, she heard Yuyao talking to someone. Lianzhi wanted to ask more, but Baikang looked so nervous and anxious that she could only hurried to catch up with him.
In the woodshed, a not-so-tall man was lying on the ground, his hands and feet still tied, his eyes closed, his face blue, and black blood flowing from his mouth and nose.
Clearly a sign of poisoning.
Lianzhi's face changed drastically. She squatted down and sniffed his breath. After confirming that he was still breathing, she breathed a sigh of relief and angrily said, "Bo Kang! How could he be poisoned in your villa?"
Bai Kang turned his head guiltily and told Qinghe to call a doctor over quickly.
"I trust you, so I'm handing him over to you!" Lianzhi stamped his feet anxiously. An Shi hadn't revealed who was behind him yet, and he secretly didn't want An Shi's life. He was only angry for a few seconds before taking a deep breath. "When you brought him back yesterday, didn't you check if he had any drugs on him? Where were the hidden weapons on him?"
"We checked everything, even the cracks under his fingernails to see if he had any drugs!" Bo Kang growled, "No."
If there is no drug possession, then it is not suicide.
"Then you'd better guarantee that there is no one in your villa who has ulterior motives." Lianzhi said coldly, "This is your villa."
