Just as Shen Qingcheng was about to say something, a commotion suddenly broke out on the street. An unmanned carriage was speeding around erratically, and pedestrians were terrified, quickly scrambling to the sides.
Everyone recognized it as the Gu family's carriage. There was no other reason for it; no one but the Gu family would have gold and jade inlaid on their carriage.
The carriage went out of control and sped past. Only then did people realize that it wasn't that no one was driving, but that the driver had collapsed and his fate was unknown!
What, what on earth happened?
What was even more frightening was that several intermittent cries of children could be heard coming from inside the carriage. They had been crying for an unknown amount of time and their voices had become hoarse.
With such heavy rain, there were few pedestrians, and they were mostly ordinary people. Even if there were strong and healthy men, they could not stop the horses' hooves from trampling them by themselves.
What a pity.
Everyone shook their heads.
Unless divine intervention, there's no hope.
What a pity for such a young child, a life wasted.
Suddenly, a tall figure descended from the sky, landing steadily on the horse's back. He pulled hard on the reins and shouted "Whoa!"
The reddish-brown horse reared up on its front hooves and neighed, finally calming down amidst the rain and mud.
Shen Qingcheng quickly crawled into the carriage and hugged the little boy, who was terrified and whose eyes were red and swollen from crying.
He raised his sleeve to shield her from the rain.
Little Radish was terrified.
Shen Qingcheng's broad and solid chest gave her a strong sense of security, and she couldn't say a word, bursting into tears.
"Big brother! Big brother!" Shen Qingye rushed out of the inn. "Are you alright, big brother?"
He subconsciously held the umbrella over Shen Qingcheng's head, then swung it towards the little radish head's head.
Shen Qingcheng shook his head, indicating that there was nothing seriously wrong; the little radish head was just surprised.
His eyes darkened.
No, there's no way they would leave such a young child alone in a carriage. What happened?
Shen Qingcheng looked at the Gu family's carriage. Who came out with Little Radish Head?
"Hey? This kid looks familiar, like..."
"Nannan!" Shen Qingye was interrupted by a woman's exclamation before he could finish speaking.
"Nannan, Nannan, are you alright? What happened?" Madam Guan didn't even have time to open her umbrella before getting off the carriage and rushing over.
The maid holding the umbrella behind him ran as fast as she could but couldn't catch up.
Madam Guan hurriedly took the crying, hiccuping little boy from the carriage, and only then did she notice the terrible state of the Gu family's carriage, and a sense of unease arose in her heart.
While comforting her daughter, she looked at the Shen brothers with a questioning gaze.
Madam Gu wrote last night saying that she would send the child back to the Feng residence today. She happened to be in the area on business, so she came to pick up the child on her way.
I never expected to run into this scene.
Shen Qingye said, "What kind of look is that, Madam? Do you suspect we're crying wolf? My elder brother saved your child and didn't even say thank you..."
"Shut up!" Shen Qingcheng shouted, bowing to Madam Feng.
"To be honest, I don't know exactly what happened either. However, the matter is complicated, so please bear with the pain and ask your daughter what happened."
Madam Feng smiled apologetically, thanked the two brothers first, and then asked Little Radish Head.
"My dear, don't be afraid, Mommy's here. Tell Mommy, who brought you back? Why were you alone in the carriage?"
Strangely enough, she knew her own daughter better than anyone else.
Don't underestimate this little guy; he's surprisingly brave. What did he see that scared him so much?
The little girl was comforted by her mother, but then she suddenly burst into tears again.
"Fairy, fairy..."
Madam Feng's heart skipped a beat; she knew perfectly well who the fairy her daughter was talking about was.
Shen Qingcheng's face immediately darkened.
Shen Qingye was completely bewildered.
Madam Feng patiently coaxed, "My dear child, tell your mother, what happened to the fairy?"
Little Radish Head sobbed, "Fairy, fairy has been sold! The bad guy who sells candied hawthorns has captured, captured, and taken away! Waaaaah!"
Madam Feng's face was pale.
Shen Qingye remained completely bewildered.
Shen Qingcheng's mood sank to rock bottom.
The reason he had been sitting by the window was that half an hour earlier, he had felt a sudden pang in his heart and felt uneasy.
He rarely experiences this kind of emotion.
In the streets and alleys of Shengcheng, it seemed as if someone was calling his name.
...
"Go to the Gu family immediately to report this, I'm going to find Jiaojiao."
The little boy was surprised, but Shen Qingcheng didn't make things difficult for Madam Feng and sent her home.
After giving instructions to Shen Qingye, he picked up his sword and disappeared into the raging storm.
When Jiaojiao was little, she was most afraid of thundery days. Every time there was thunder, she would hug her little pillow and cry.
Shen Qingcheng frowned even more, not daring to delay, and sped up even more.
Shen Qingye's words, "Brother, it's raining so hard, let's stop before we go," were ultimately stuck in his throat.
Shen Qingcheng disappeared too quickly; he didn't even have a chance to say those words.
He didn't think it was a big deal.
With Shen Jiao's fighting skills, what could possibly happen? It would be good enough if others didn't suffer any losses.
I really don't know what my brother is in such a hurry for.
It's like the emperor isn't worried, but the eunuch is... oh wait, no, no.
Shen Qingye still wanted to save Shen Yu, so he dared not disobey his elder brother's order and planned to leisurely call a carriage to go to the Gu family.
But they discovered he had no money. In such heavy rain, what coachman would tolerate paying on credit?
"If it weren't for you, would I, the second young master of the Marquis of Anbo, be so poor?" Shen Qingye complained to Shen Jiao even more.
Thinking that Shen Jiao was quite capable in combat, and that his elder brother's martial arts skills were also extraordinary, he went back to his guest room and changed into clean clothes.
It's getting dark, so let's go tomorrow morning when the rain is lighter.
