Chapter 32 Hao Yu Returns 2
If Hao Yu were all alone, that would be one thing, but he still has Jiang Yuan waiting for him to come home in Mingfu Village.
He couldn't implicate Jiang Yuan, especially since Jiang Yuan had long since given up on his biological parents, while he insisted on going to Beijing to confront the couple.
"No wonder A Yuan wouldn't let me go to Beijing, no wonder he'd rather stay in Mingfu Village for the rest of his life."
"I can't even understand as well as a child."
"Don't worry, we will never come here again to make a fool of ourselves!"
After leaving those few words, Hao Yu, looking utterly dejected, departed. Then he discovered that he was being followed.
Hao Yu, who was once a general, could easily shake off the few tails following him, but he did not do so immediately.
He could roughly guess what the Earl of Anping and his wife were thinking, so he quickly found a caravan that could give him a ride along the way and left the capital with them.
On the first and second days after the caravan left the city, those few tails mingled with other travelers and followed them from a distance. But starting from noon on the third day, Hao Yu no longer felt like she was being watched.
The surveillance was lifted, but Hao Yu was not happy at all. Ever since he met that couple, a fire had been burning in his heart.
He said those things when the three of them parted on bad terms, and the couple even sent people to monitor him afterwards, but they still didn't send him anything.
That's their eldest son!
In the past, they were unwilling to send someone to pick him up, nor did they ever send anyone to visit him. Now, they don't even bother with such a simple act of comfort.
This forced Hao Yu to accept the fact that although Jiang Yuan was still alive, his biological parents wished he would die outside as soon as possible so he wouldn't cause them any more trouble.
He couldn't bear to tell Jiang Yuan these things, even though Jiang Yuan was more rational and clear-headed than him from the beginning.
He only mentioned the two options the two men had given him, and then added, "I refused. From now on, we have absolutely nothing to do with them."
Jiang Yuan had anticipated this outcome. He softened his voice, "You're only thirty-two. It's not too late to get married and have children. You've saved up some money over the years, so why don't I let your older sister..."
"Stop, stop, stop." Hao Yu raised her hand to interrupt Jiang Yuan's rare rambling. "Don't meddle in your elders' private affairs."
Jiang Yuan was helpless. Every time he brought it up, Hao Yu had the same attitude, which made him suspect that Hao Yu planned to remain a bachelor for the rest of his life.
He was young when he was young and the world was chaotic, but now that the world is peaceful and he has grown up, he feels that Hao Yu should also live the life he wants.
He couldn't really let Hao Yu sacrifice everything for him.
Since reasoning with him didn't work, he secretly tried to arrange for more suitable girls to meet Hao Yu.
Having made up his mind, Jiang Yuan didn't say anything more. He soaked Hao Yu's dirty clothes in a bucket and was about to take them out to help wash them when Hao Yu suddenly asked Jiang Yuan, "Just who is that Miss Xie?"
Jiang Yuan paused, put down the wooden bucket, and turned to look at Hao Yu. "I didn't ask."
Hao Yu frowned. "I heard from the villagers that you fished her out of the Tang River?"
Jiang Yuan nodded.
Hao Yu frowned even more deeply. "If I'm not mistaken, she didn't fall into the water accidentally, but was murdered, right?"
Jiang Yuan pursed his lips. "She has already shaken off those bad guys, otherwise no one would have been able to find her in the village."
Hao Yu hit the nail on the head, "But her troubles haven't been resolved yet, otherwise she wouldn't have been hiding here all this time, not even daring to go home."
Jiang Yuan was speechless.
Hao Yu sighed, "You."
As one of Jiang Yuan's mentors, he knew very well that Jiang Yuan was not as cold as he seemed. He was kind, filial, grateful, and a very good person.
Jiang Yuan knew that he had compromised, so he took the opportunity to ask, "By the way, Master, she wants to learn some self-defense skills from me. Can I teach her?"
Hao Yu nodded, "Teach me whatever you like."
He learned his martial arts skills from his father, who died young. Now he is the only son in his family. As long as Jiang Yuan agrees, he can pass on what Jiang Yuan has learned from him.
Jiang Yuan had long anticipated this outcome, but he patiently waited for Hao Yu to return and sought his opinion before beginning to teach Xie Wanniang martial arts.
After a brief exchange, Hao Yu had finished washing up. He took his dirty clothes back and washed them by hand. Jiang Yuan couldn't argue with him, so he went to wash the dishes that the three of them had used.
After the two of them finished washing clothes and dishes, Xie Wanniang had already prepared hand-pulled noodles made of pure white flour.
She made it according to Jiang Yuan's appetite. After Hao Yu ate two large bowls, he waved his hand and said he couldn't eat the last bowl. Xie Wan Niang thought for a moment, then took out three more bowls and divided the remaining noodles in the pot equally among Xiao Yang, Jiang Yuan and herself.
Although the three of them ate better food than the others in the village, they rarely ate pure white flour. This dish, paired with meat sauce, was enough to make Xiao Yang's mouth water.
The three of them finished the remaining bowl of noodles. Jiang Yuan quickly began washing the pots and pans, while Xie Wanniang carried a bucket of water and went back to the house with Xiao Yang to wash up.
Jiang Yuan just told her that he can start teaching her martial arts tomorrow, and Xie Wanniang is looking forward to it.
The two have agreed that, unless there is bad weather, they will get up half an hour earlier every day and go to the abandoned threshing ground at the end of the village for one-on-one instruction.
The day after Hao Yu returned, Jiang Yuan started running up a mountain that was a little further away, accompanied by Xie Wanniang and Xiao Yang.
Xiao Yang climbed the mountain more nimbly than Xie Wan Niang, which was something Xie Wan Niang had not expected.
She had originally planned to rest once or twice along the way to take care of the pitiful child who begged her to come up the mountain with her, but she didn't expect the child's two short legs to move so fast that he was no slower than her.
Halfway there, Jiang Yuan saw that she looked incredulous, so he explained on Xiao Yang's behalf, "She used to go into the mountains often."
Xie Wanniang's eyes widened. "She's only five years old."
Jiang Yuan's tone was flat, revealing no emotion. "Most of the children in the village grew up like this. The older ones took care of the younger ones, cutting pig feed, digging for wild vegetables, gathering firewood, catching grasshoppers and earthworms to feed the chickens."
Xie Wanniang paused for a moment, then asked, "You too?"
Jiang Yuan nodded, "My sister and brother-in-law loved taking me into the mountains back when they weren't married yet."
Xie Wanniang couldn't help but laugh out loud; so he was going to be someone's third wheel.
When Jiang Yuan heard her laugh, he couldn't help but smile as well.
