Chapter 182 The Wedding Day
Completely bewildered, Haitang was dismissed with a head full of questions. Xie Wanniang, who was about to experience another major change in her life, was unusually unable to fall asleep within 15 minutes.
She tossed and turned in bed for about an hour, then got up to go to the bathroom, and soon after, she drifted off to sleep.
What she didn't know was that Jiang Yuan was much more nervous and excited than she was.
Xie Wanniang only suffered from insomnia for about an hour, but Jiang Yuan stayed up until past midnight before he could calm his overly excited mood by constantly counting sheep and forcing himself not to think about Xie Wanniang anymore.
The fact that he was able to appear full of energy the next day was all thanks to the fact that there were not many entertainment options in ancient times, and everyone went to bed early. Even if he tossed and turned for a long time, he was still able to get more than three hours of high-quality sleep after falling asleep.
Many people accompanied him to the wedding. Besides his junior brother Atai, there were also several of his comrades who often went to his place to freeload.
Regardless of their current status, these people were all Chang Yao's trusted bodyguards, just like Jiang Yuan. As fellow members of Chang Yao's inner circle, they naturally felt closer, not to mention the deep bond they had built up over a long period of fighting side by side.
Upon learning that Jiang Yuan was going to marry Miss Xie, who often brought him food and clothing, all of his comrades who could spare the time to join in the fun rushed over.
Young people who are not yet married are especially enthusiastic.
On one hand, they wanted to join in the fun; on the other hand, they also wanted to see if their future sister-in-law had any unmarried girls who were as virtuous and capable as her.
As the old saying goes, "Birds of a feather flock together," right? A good girl should be surrounded by other good girls, right?
With this little secret in mind, everyone unanimously took out their best clothes and dressed themselves up to look neat and energetic.
Jiang Yuan was completely unaware of his comrades' little schemes; at that moment, his mind was entirely focused on his marriage.
Leaving home right on time, enduring various tests from her "family," and receiving numerous red envelopes, Jiang Yuan knelt before Xie Daoheng to receive a lecture. Just as the auspicious hour arrived, with music and fanfare, the bridal sedan chair was carried into the house that Chang Yao had given them.
There were many people in the house. Jiang Yuan was both nervous and excited as he and Xie Wanniang went through the wedding ceremony step by step, guided by the matchmaker and wedding attendant.
The joyful and lively atmosphere lasted from morning until evening.
At the wedding banquet, many people were eager to try to get Jiang Yuan to drink, but Hao Yu had already arranged for people to help Jiang Yuan fend off the drinks as much as possible. He also replaced Jiang Yuan's jar of wine with cooled boiled water that had only a little wine mixed in.
To prevent being discovered, he had also sprinkled some strong-smelling liquor on the inside of Jiang Yuan's sleeve beforehand.
The operation was swift and efficient; it was clear that the person was a seasoned pro at cheating in such situations.
Thanks to him, Jiang Yuan was able to sober up and escape his fate of being drunk.
When Atai "helped" him back to the bridal chamber, Xie Wanniang had already changed into a set of casual clothes. She sat in the candlelight with her slightly damp hair loose, eating the light meal that he had prepared in advance.
Hearing footsteps at the door, Xie Wanniang turned her head, a smile unconsciously appearing on her lips.
Seeing her genuinely joyful smile, Jiang Yuan felt that all his previous efforts and dangers had become worthwhile because of this moment.
This is the woman he loves. From this day forward, she will be his lawfully wedded wife. They will walk hand in hand through thick and thin, creating a peaceful and harmonious world for themselves and their families.
"Quick, help him in!" As a thousand emotions surged within Jiang Yuan, Xie Wanniang quickly stood up and went to him and Atai, asking, "How are you? Are you feeling unwell?"
Jiang Yuan snapped out of his daze, smiled faintly, and shook his head at her. "I'm fine."
Xie Wanniang didn't believe it, so she called to Haitang, "Haitang, go and bring me a bowl of hangover soup."
Today is their wedding day, and it's inevitable that some people will get drunk, whether willingly or unwillingly, at the banquet. Therefore, Jiang Yuan had the kitchen prepare a large pot of hangover soup in advance, just in case.
Haitang responded and left, while Xie Wanniang personally took the drunken Jiang Yuan from Atai's hands.
"Thank you for your hard work." Xie Wanniang nodded to Atai and said with a smile, "I can take care of Ayuan. You should go and have a bowl of hangover soup."
Atai was still young, so no one dared to force him to drink at the table. However, as a member of Jiang Yuan's drinking-blocking group, he did drink some alcohol.
Xie Wanniang, who still held onto the beliefs of her past life, thought it was not a good thing for the child to drink alcohol before he was even eighteen. So, even though she could tell that his eyes were clear and he probably hadn't drunk too much, she still sent him off to drink some hangover soup as soon as possible.
Atai did feel a little unwell. Apart from the time he was a child when he secretly drank the jar of liquor that his father treasured, out of curiosity about its taste, this was the first time he had ever drunk alcohol. Moreover, he had drunk three or four bowls right away, and he was indeed on the verge of getting drunk.
He handed Jiang Yuan over to Xie Wanniang for support, and nodded slightly to her, "Okay."
After Atai left, Jiang Yuan straightened his back and immediately became more energetic.
Seeing Xie Wanniang in a daze, he quietly told her about Hao Yu's trickery, which made Xie Wanniang smile.
"Then you should thank Uncle Hao properly tomorrow." Xie Wanniang thought Hao Yu was incredibly wise to prevent Jiang Yuan from getting drunk.
She doesn't like getting drunk, whether it's herself or someone else getting drunk.
She believes in moderation in everything and can't understand what people who get themselves drunk or insist on getting others drunk are thinking.
Originally, although she herself did not like drinking, she would not stop others from enjoying the drink, provided that these "others" were either unrelated to her or drank in moderation.
If it's the kind of guy who pretends to be crazy when drunk, no matter what he was like before drinking, as long as he dares to act crazy in front of Xie Wanniang even once, Xie Wanniang will definitely blacklist him immediately and tell him to get as far away as possible.
This can be considered a kind of stress response on her part.
Although she hadn't told Jiang Yuan, her attitude had always been quite clear and easy to understand, so Jiang Yuan knew how much she disliked drunkards who acted out.
Jiang Yuan wasn't surprised at all when he heard her say that she wanted to thank Hao Yu properly.
He took off his wedding clothes, which reeked of alcohol, and in his undergarments, first drank a large bowl of hangover soup that Haitang had brought him and that Xie Wanniang had given him.
