Chapter 5 Giving up so easily is not a good habit
One day in her sophomore year, Cen Wan had just come out of the studio when her roommate dragged her to a bar street near the school.
She had never been to a bar before, but since it was her roommate's birthday, she couldn't say no.
The group sat in a booth on the first floor, and my roommate waved his hand and ordered a lot of drinks.
"Ah Wan, you've never drunk alcohol before, so why not try some fruit wine first?"
It was a glass of pink fruit wine with a piece of lime and a mint leaf on top. The color was beautiful and attractive, with a sweet white peach flavor.
Her roommate was playing games with her friends. She picked up the cup and looked at it. She was eager to try it but also a little nervous. After a long time, she carefully took a sip.
Although the fruit flavor was strong, the bitter and slightly spicy alcohol still attacked her taste buds accurately.
She frowned instantly, her face wrinkled.
It doesn't taste good at all.
As she put down the cup, she heard a chuckle.
She looked around, unsure if she had heard correctly, until her eyes met the boy sitting opposite her.
Cen Wan's gaze lingered on his face for a long time.
It was a perfect face, with deep eyebrows, well-proportioned bones, thin lips, a straight nose, and smooth and neat lines.
The golden ratio makes her very suitable as a model in the studio.
The boy was leaning lazily on the sofa. When he saw her looking at him, his eyebrows slightly raised and a faint smile appeared at the corner of his mouth, making him look romantic and dissolute.
Her intuition made her feel that there was danger. Cen Wan pursed her lips and looked away.
The boy's eyes were always on her, with an intensity that could not be ignored.
Cen Wan frowned unconsciously. She felt like he was laughing at her just now.
But she didn't know him at all.
She shook her head, trying her best to ignore the gaze.
Until she lost the game of Truth or Dare, her roommates urged her to ask the most handsome boy in the room for his WeChat ID.
The face flashed through her mind instantly.
Others saw it too.
"Isn't that Shen Yixiao? Damn, he's here too!"
"Wanwan, hurry up and go! You're the only one with a face that can compete with him. Give me his contact information, or once he graduates, we'll never see each other again!"
Cen Wan had never done such a thing before, but based on the principle of accepting defeat, she stood up and walked towards Shen Yixiao with a fearless look on her face, without any preparation, and went straight to the point.
"Classmate, could you please give me your contact information?"
His friends around him started to make a noise.
Shen Yixiao looked lazy and unfocused. He slowly raised his eyelids and looked at her: "You want my contact information?"
Cen Wan: "It's okay if you don't want to give it to me."
She asked and it was considered as completing the task.
Shen Yixiao crossed his legs and looked at her with his head tilted slightly. His dark eyes narrowed and his voice was lazy and low, with a long tone: "You are like this, I thought you would be beaten if you didn't give it to me!"
Cen Wan: "..."
Amidst the laughter and teasing sounds all around, Cen Wan felt that he probably wouldn't give it to her, so she said "Sorry for disturbing you" and walked away.
"No more?"
Cen Wan turned around and saw him casually take out his phone, open WeChat, and hand it to her, humming an ambiguous chuckle:
"Giving up so easily is not a good habit."
…
Cen Wan slept restlessly that night, fragments of the past flashing through her mind intermittently. These scattered fragments easily pieced together the past that she had deliberately forgotten.
She reminded herself that feelings were not something she could handle right now. Who could remain calm when meeting someone they'd been attracted to in their youth? It was just normal emotional fluctuations.
Working and making money is the most important thing for her right now.
Jiang Yuan went back to the crew to revise the script, and Cen Wan also packed up and went out.
She got off the car at the corner of the street, walked into the alley, and pushed open a door at the end. Inside the door was an antique courtyard with rockery, potted plants and various stone stacks, and inside was a bright and clean studio.
When Cen Wan entered, Xiao Lin was the only one in the room. He was pounding a piece of blue copper ore, preparing to grind it into powder.
Hearing the noise, Xiao Lin turned around and saw that it was Cen Wan. He smiled happily: "Sister Wan, you're here!"
Cen Wan put down her bag and responded.
"Where are the teacher and the others?"
Xiao Lin had a "you-know-what" expression on his face. "Mr. Mei heard that there was diopside in Rong County, so he rushed over without stopping. Brother Fei and Ziyao are on vacation."
Cen Wan nodded: "Teacher has always been like this."
Xiao Lin is younger and more lively. Seeing Cen Wan, he couldn't help but become more talkative. "I've been alone in the studio these past few days. Luckily, you came today, sister. Otherwise, I would have died suddenly here and no one would have noticed."
Cen Wan pulled up her hair, laid out the paints she had recently made, and began testing the colors: "Don't worry, I'll come and collect your body."
Xiao Lin looked at Cen Wan's delicate profile and serious expression, and couldn't help but mutter in a low voice: "Sister, I can't respond to what you said."
Cen Wan didn't even look up: "Then get down to work. I'll treat you to coffee later."
Xiao Lin knew that Cen Wan didn't like to be disturbed once she started working, so he didn't say anything else.
Cen Wan checked all the custom-made paints before saying to Xiao Lin, "Number 3 is finished. Remember to have Ziyao send it over in time."
Xiaolin: "Okay."
"You've almost finished grinding it, it's time to..."
Before Cen Wan could finish her words, her cell phone rang.
She took the phone, looked at the caller, and picked up the call.
A crisp female voice came from the other end of the line: "Master Cen, how are you finding the paint? The client is urging us to get it."
Cen Wan walked towards the yard: "It will take some time. I may have to go look for it in the mountains myself."
"Didn't you say there was a piece of emerald copper ore that matched perfectly in color? Didn't you get it?"
Cen Wan pursed her lips and said, "It might be a little difficult, but there's not much hope."
The voice on the other end of the phone was sincere: "Cen, this isn't the first time we've worked together. To be honest, this is a big client with plenty of money. They're just waiting to give this painting away as a gift. Time is very urgent. If the timeline is extended, the compensation will also decrease. Do you understand what I mean?"
Cen Wan looked down at her toes: "Well, I'll do it as soon as possible."
"I've already finished the rest of the work, and I'm just waiting for your paint to do the final touches. If you can buy that piece for a higher price, that's fine too, and I'll cover the cost. Also, if you can give me the agreed-upon compensation as soon as possible, I'll give you the increase the client gave me."
Cen Wan: "Okay, I'll do my best."
After hanging up the phone, Cen Wan stood in the yard, staring at the koi in the pond under the eaves in a daze.
She is a painter and usually works in her teacher's studio, but occasionally she also takes on private jobs.
She needed money. These orders from outside required high requirements for paint, but the pay was also high.
However, Qin Yanxiu was afraid that he would not sell it to her. She had looked for many other mineral materials before, but they were either less pure or less colorful. Only that piece was the most suitable.
The painting they were trying to restore was a priceless ancient painting, and even the slightest flaw would destroy its original value. She could have passed off an inferior piece as a genuine one, but her professional ethics wouldn't allow it, and she couldn't do it.
Cen Wan hesitated for a few seconds and made a decision.
She returned to her room, found the custom orders in the studio, and carefully sorted them out. There were only two designated for her, and she worked overtime and could finish them in two or three days.
She couldn't just sit there and wait for Qin Yanxiu to contact her. After she finished her work, she would fly over and go into the mountains to look for him herself. If she was lucky, she would be back in a week.
After making up her mind, Cen Wan actually felt relieved.
She ordered two cups of coffee, handed one to Xiaolin, took the other cup and went into the room where she usually worked and started working.
…
As night fell, Xiaolin stretched and looked out the door.
"Sister, aren't you going back?"
Cen Wan raised her head and said softly, "I'll finish it. You can go back and rest first."
Kobayashi didn't leave immediately, but stood at the door and watched for a while.
When she first came to the studio, she felt that Cen Wan was cold and distant, with a fairy-like face that was so beautiful that people were afraid to approach her. She must be difficult to get along with.
But after getting to know her, I found that she has a gentle and tough personality, is professional and serious at work, and occasionally blurts out a sentence or two in a serious manner when chatting, which is hard to resist, and she also has a bit of dry humor.
Cen Wan's hair was casually tied behind her head. She lowered her head and was busy with the work at hand. A strand of hair hung down in front of her forehead, seeming to glow under the cold white light.
Looking at this scene, Xiaolin couldn't help but shake her head and sigh, wondering which window did God close for her?
"Sister Wan, I'm going back first. You should come back early too."
"good."
Cen Wan stayed in the studio for two whole days and did not go home at night. She slept in the lounge next to it.
On the third day, with only the finishing touches left, she pulled out her phone to book a flight. Just as she clicked on the app, a call came in from an unfamiliar local number.
Cen Wan paused for a moment and picked up the phone.
"Excuse me, is this Miss Cen?"
A young voice came from the other end of the phone, "I'm Mr. Qin's assistant..."
