Meet parents

Meet parents

The banquet had a basic dress code: men wore suits and women wore evening gowns. Song Yu had thrown away all her previous evening gowns because they took up too much space and might not be used in the future. She finally managed to find one.

The dress is white and made of exquisite satin. It has a beautiful stacked design at the waist. One side is a thin strap and the other side is a wide satin strap. It can be hung on the shoulders or let down. The skirt is very long, but Song Yu is tall, so it is not a problem for her to wear it. The large square collar can fully reveal the beautiful shoulder and neck lines.

When they arrived at the venue, there were already quite a few people standing sparsely in various places chatting. Everyone looked unhappy. Some people looked anxious, some looked excited. In short, it was not a very pleasant atmosphere. Even when they entered, Song Yu could clearly feel that many people's eyes were passing over them, or to be more precise, over Xu Qiao.

Song Yu felt a little strange when he saw this scene, "Why do I feel like they are all looking at you?"

Xu Qiao's lips curled up into a smile, "What a combination of handsome men and beautiful women, it's a shame not to take a second look."

It was a rare moment of joking, but Song Yu knew in his heart that it was definitely not that simple.

They walked through the crowd and found the place where their ID cards were placed and sat down. Sure enough, not long after, someone came up with a glass of wine.

With his slicked-back hair, he had a smile on his face, but his eyes were filled with an indescribable displeasure. "Xiao Qiao, you've done great things quietly, that's fine."

Xu Qiao said modestly: "I am not as capable as my uncle."

The man with the slicked-back hair turned around and looked at Song Yu again, smiling, "Is this your girlfriend? When did you get to know her? We uncles don't even know her. What's her name?"

Song Yu greeted him generously, "Hello uncle, my name is Song Yu."

"Xiao Yu, you don't mind your uncle calling you that, do you?" The man with the slicked-back hair glanced at Xu Qiao, his face suddenly becoming mysterious. "You, you won't suffer any loss by following Xu Qiao. You don't know how open-minded our Xiao Qiao is. Some time ago, he transferred all the shares left to him by his parents to an outsider, regardless of past grudges. His uncle offered to buy them back at a high price several times, but he refused. Tell me, is he open-minded? He just said he didn't want tens of millions in dividends every year."

Song Yu glanced at Xu Qiao, then smiled and said, "That's not much money, uncle. Our Xiao Qiao gave it to us if she wanted to. It's not a big deal."

The man with the slicked-back hair froze, then said with a smile, "That's true. Okay, Xiaoqiao, take your girlfriend for a good look. I have something to do, so I'll leave first."

Watching the man with the slicked-back hair walk away, Song Yu heard the smiling voice of the person next to him before he could ask, "Our Xiaoqiao?"

"What?" Song Yu teased him, "You won't call me?"

"No." Xu Qiao looked at her and said, "Then can you change my note to this as well?"

Song Yu's face turned red when he stared at her. She picked up the phone and started to modify it. After she was done, she checked it carefully for him and only gave the phone back after finding that there was no problem.

"But what did that person mean by share transfer?"

Xu Qiao looked at the crowd of people coming towards him and said, "I transferred the shares my parents left me to another shareholder. Including my share, the total amount has exceeded my uncle's. That shareholder and my uncle have an old grudge."

"The company held a shareholders' meeting a few days ago, and he was voted out." Xu Qiao smiled, "Now the company no longer bears his last name..."

As soon as he finished speaking, the bustling crowd finally parted. A man walked out from the middle, his face furious but trying to maintain his composure. "Xiaoqiao, long time no see. Uncle called you so many times, why didn't you answer any of them? You have no respect for your elders at all. This is what your uncle taught you when you were little."

Xu Qiao curled his lips. "Uncle, it's been a long time since we last met. Teach? What do you mean by teach? Throw me into a correctional facility?"

The two people's voices were not loud, but they attracted the attention of almost everyone present.

Xu Zhiyan suppressed his anger and stepped forward, saying softly, "Xiaoqiao, uncle had no choice but to do what he did back then. Didn't I tell you all this before? Why are you still resentful of me after so much time has passed?"

His voice rose uncontrollably. "You know what?" His voice trembled with anger, then he calmed down deliberately. "By doing this, you're giving away your eldest brother's hard work. Your father founded this company himself. When I gave you shares, I didn't mean you'd give away the company he worked so hard to build!"

"I asked my dad." Xu Qiao said calmly, "He said he doesn't mind."

"What?" Feeling like he was being teased, Xu Zhiyan's eyes widened in anger. "What are you talking about? How can a dead person speak?"

"I am my father's son. Don't I know what my father thinks?" said Xu Qiao.

"Nonsense!" Xu Zhiyan said, "You prodigal son! Your father would be terrified to know you did this. You're such a disappointment."

Xu Qiao stood there and said only one sentence lightly, "Uncle, I already told you that my father agreed. Why don't you believe me? If you keep pestering me, it will be a bit embarrassing to watch."

Some people around were already taking out their phones to take pictures, so Xu Zhiyan could only suppress his anger and say angrily, "Hello, I'm fine."

Xu Qiao nodded slightly, "I'll take it as a compliment, uncle. Thank you."

When Xu Zhiyan finally left, Song Yu suspected that he wanted to pour the glass of wine on Xu Qiao's face, but in the end he still had his dignity. Before leaving, he glared at Song Yu fiercely, but Song Yu smiled at him. Xu Zhiyan became even angrier, put the glass aside heavily, and left.

After watching two big plays in a row, Song Yu was simply amazed. She touched Xu Qiao's elbow and said, "Hey, why didn't I realize you were so good at arguing with people before?"

"Honestly." Xu Qiao brought her a glass of water. "They're not in the right, so naturally they can't argue with me."

Song Yu looked around. Because of the incident just now, many people were secretly glancing at them. Being stared at didn't matter, but it would be hard for Song Yu to feel comfortable if he was secretly stared at like this the whole time. What's more, it seemed that there were people around who were eager to come forward and talk to him.

She drank the water slowly. Just as she was about to turn her head to talk to Xu Qiao, Xu Qiao leaned over first and asked softly, "Have you finished your water?"

"What?" In fact, the banquet has not started yet, but most people have already taken their seats.

Xu Qiao looked at her and said, "Let's run."

Run? Song Yu reacted, "Did you come here just to piss them off?"

"Yes." Xu Qiao had a naughty look on his face.

"But there is a place I want to take you."

"where?"

The banquet hall was shrouded in darkness. Only the high-hanging moon selflessly released soft moonlight to illuminate the earth. Suddenly, a warm yellow light leaked out from the dark side door that no one cared about. Two people holding hands came out. The man was wearing a slim and close-fitting black suit, and the woman was wearing a beautiful white long dress. Behind them was the exquisite and luxurious banquet hall. Both of them had smiles on their faces. They ran hand in hand, leaving the warm light far behind.

It's like a handsome prince and a beautiful princess in an evening gown escaping from a banquet full of guests to find their own unique happiness.

The place wasn't far away, but when Song Yu finally stood at the gate, she hesitated. She looked down at her slightly offensive outfit and asked, "Is it okay for me to dress like this?"

Xu Qiao came over and tucked her hair, which was messed up by the evening breeze, behind her ears. He placed the back of his warm hand against her face and whispered, "You look very beautiful tonight."

"Let's go."

Xu Qiao took her hand and walked through one lawn after another. Perhaps because they knew they were coming, all the lights along the way were on. The environment here was very nice, and flowers could be seen everywhere. They also bought a bouquet on the way here.

The wind was blowing gently, and the leaves nearby were rustling in the wind, as if welcoming them.

Not long after walking, Xu Qiao stopped at a place. He reached out and brushed off the dust. He said softly, "Mom and Dad, I'm here to see you."

Song Yu was a little nervous and at a loss, standing by the side holding the hem of her skirt. This was a double tombstone.

There is a group photo on the monument. A gentle woman with a happy smile on her face is leaning next to a handsome and tall man. It is a combination of handsome men and beautiful women. Xu Qiao's appearance combines the advantages of his parents.

Xu Qiao turned around and saw Song Yu standing straight with a nervous look on his face. He smiled and said, "Why are you so nervous? Come here."

"How can I not be nervous about something like this?" Song Yu said, "If you told me I was going to meet your parents today, I would have worn a different outfit."

"This set is also very beautiful." Xu Qiao said, "My parents will like you. I will talk about you every year when I see them."

"real?"

"Yeah." Xu Qiao smiled and pulled Song Yu, "Come up quickly and let my parents take a good look at you."

Song Yu stepped forward and clasped his hands together respectfully. "Hello, uncle and aunt, I'm sorry to come see you so late. Although Xu Qiao may have told you about me, I'll still introduce myself to you. My name is Song Yu, I'm 22 years old, and my parents have severed their relationship..."

She paused, turned to Xu Qiao and said, "Is it a bit inappropriate for me to say this? Will your parents mind?"

Xu Qiao smiled sullenly, "No, I'm almost there anyway."

So she turned around and continued, "I have a younger sister who's currently attending university. I've actually known Xu Qiao for a long time. I don't know if he's told you that I'm a very reliable person. We'll be together forever, uncle and aunt. Don't worry. Xu Qiao is a very good person. You've raised him very well. He's strong and kind, a good person that everyone loves. He'll also raise himself well. Uncle and aunt, don't worry. We'll come to visit you often when we're free."

After saying that, she carefully stepped back and raised her head to ask Xu Qiao, "Do you think uncle and aunt will like me?"

Xu Qiao looked at the two smiling faces on the monument and said softly, "Yes, they like you very much."

He stepped forward and placed the flowers he had bought in front of the tombstone. He squatted in front of it and carefully scraped off the dust with his hands. "Mom and Dad, Song Yu and I came to see you today. I was so scared when I lost you. I was afraid of everything. I was afraid that I would have no home and no relatives in the future, and I would be alone as a ghost. I want to walk the road to the underworld alone."

"But I just met her," Xu Qiao said. "I'm lucky and unlucky at the same time, I regret it and I don't regret it, but everything I was supposed to have encountered has happened. It's fate, and I'm happy with it."

"Mom and Dad, please bless us with peace, happiness, health and prosperity in your spirits in heaven." After saying that, he knelt down and kowtowed.

They didn't stay in the cemetery for long. As they left, the lights went out one by one behind them. Song Yu turned around and looked at the cemetery, which had become quiet again. He felt an indescribable feeling in his heart. "Uncle and aunt must love you very much. I hope you live a long, healthy and happy life."

Xu Qiao also turned his head to look and said softly, "I will."

In the car, Xu Qiao handed Song Yu something in a red envelope. Song Yu took it and felt it was very thick. "What is this?"

"A gift for meeting my parents."

Song Yu opened the envelope and found a stack of red banknotes inside. She looked up at Xu Qiao who was driving in surprise and said, "It's so thick, how much did you put in?"

She tried to pull one out but felt resistance. Xu Qiao turned his gaze from the road ahead and glanced at her. "I didn't know how much was appropriate, so I stuffed the envelope full."

"Although my parents are not here, the formality cannot be reduced."

"......" Song Yu's face froze. She had never expected this. Although the two people in her family were not dead, they were almost dead. So she began to try to search her body slowly. This rummaging allowed her to take out something from her bag, which she had hurriedly taken out this morning. It was a thick white envelope.

Seeing the white envelope she took out, Xu Qiao's eyebrows moved, "I don't want money. This is a gift from my parents."

"This is not money." Song Yu said with a smile, "Take it and pour out the contents to see."

Xu Qiao took the envelope and shook it. It wasn't very heavy, but not light either. He opened the envelope and poured out the things inside. The cardboard felt itchy against his palm, and a brightly colored corner of the thing appeared from the opening of the envelope.

Looking at that thing, Xu Qiao's throat felt thick as if something was blocking it. "When did you go to wash it?"

Song Yu leaned over and looked down, then raised his head and replied, "I developed them a long time ago. I thought it would be more meaningful to print them out, so I printed them all out as photos."

She pinched the corner of the stack and pulled it out, placing it in Xu Qiao's hand and saying expectantly, "Have a look! There are photos of you and your parents traveling together when you were little."

Xu Qiao looked at the pictures one by one. The ones in front were all scenery photos of Haicheng, including the blue sea, lush green trees tied with red ribbons, and colorful little houses with peculiar architecture. His fingers slowly stopped at the back, and Song Yu leaned over to look. They were all photos of a family of three. Sometimes it was a child standing with the mother, sometimes it was a father hugging the child's shoulders, and sometimes it was a group photo of the three of them. Their movements seemed restrained as if they were being photographed, but the smiles in every photo were so sincere and happy.

Suddenly, Song Yu's eyes went dark. She was hugged by someone and heard a man's hoarse voice in her ears, "Thank you, Song Yu."

Song Yu shook her head. In fact, she did nothing. She hugged him back firmly with her arms. "If there is a chance, let's go to Haicheng again."

"Okay, let's go together."
