Chapter 392: Ambiguity on a Rainy Night
I don't know how many rounds of wine were played.
Except for Wang Yuanling, everyone else was already drunk.
Some people had flushed faces, while others were bragging nonsense.
Gu Zhou's face remained expressionless, only the tips of his ears were faintly stained with red.
He sat down, his eyes falling on a small bowl of soup that suddenly appeared in front of him - still steaming.
It goes without saying who installed it.
He glanced sideways at her.
Her eyes, which were as bright as pearls under the light, were filled with worry. She spoke at a decibel level that only the two of them could hear: "Are you okay?"
She was worried about him.
For a moment.
He couldn't even tell whether it was the alcohol that was causing the heat or the sudden disordered heartbeat in his heart.
I felt my heart burning, and even my limbs were burning.
"Of course." He murmured.
"Hurry up and drink some hot soup. You haven't eaten anything, just drinking." She warned him in a soft voice, and his brain, which was eroded by alcohol, became more dizzy.
I haven't heard enough, I want to listen again.
Then he deliberately said: "I don't want to drink soup."
She paused, glanced at the table, and asked with concern: "Then what do you want to eat? I'll pick it up for you."
Gu Zhou frowned slightly, revealing a bit of drunken weariness at the right moment: "No, I have no appetite."
The next second, Ruyuan heard her anxious voice: "Eat a little, or you'll have a stomachache."
His goal was achieved. He lazily raised his eyelids, his gaze swept across the table full of delicacies, and accurately selected the only dish he needed to prepare - salt-baked snails.
"Salt-baked snails," he said.
"Okay, I'll get it for you." She reached out and scooped up three or four snails.
Using a bamboo stick, he picked out the snail meat one by one and put it into his bowl.
Gu Zhou leaned forward lazily on the back of the chair and chewed the snail meat she had picked with peace of mind.
The corners of his lips curled up into an imperceptible, casual smile of success.
Seeing that he was eating with gusto, she scooped a few more and put them all into his bowl.
Someone noticed this and immediately joked, "Oh, Mr. Gu, this treatment you receive is truly unique! Mr. Ling personally picked the snail meat for you. Is it delicious?"
Wang Yuanling smiled and explained, "Boss Gu's hands are inconvenient, so I'm just helping out a little."
Gu Zhou's eyes swept over her gentle and calm profile, the corners of his lips curved deeper, and he drawled, "My boss personally picked the snail meat for me, so it has to be delicious even if it's not."
Her eyelashes fluttered.
Everyone cooperated and smiled.
As a joke.
This little episode was soon drowned out by a new round of drinking and toasting.
Gu Zhou enjoyed the "fruits of her labor" that she continuously picked up from the bowl.
The laziness and greed that were amplified by alcohol were gradually soothed in the stomach with a sense of satisfaction.
The drinking party finally came to an end.
People flocked to the restaurant door in groups of three or five.
The sky was dark.
The raindrops fell on the ground, splashing water on the ground.
"Oh, it's raining." Someone was surprised.
Wang Yuanling called a few waiters to help hold umbrellas and send everyone to the car.
As for herself, she went to see Ma J off in person.
She smiled politely: "Ma J, where is your car? I'll take you there."
Ma J immediately said: "It's okay, no need to trouble you, I'll ask the waiter to take me there later."
Wang Yuanling said gently, "It's not a bother. I just happened to bring some local specialties with me. I'll take the car up for you."
Upon hearing this, Ma J laughed and said, "Oh, Mr. Ling is so polite. He even thought of bringing me some local specialties."
Smiled, but didn't refuse.
Wang Yuanling narrowed her eyes and spoke earnestly, "I always bother Ma J. I feel guilty and grateful at the same time."
Ma J waved his hand: "Well, it's just a small favor, Mr. Ling, don't take it to heart."
Wang Yuanling's smile deepened, and he complimented her, "Ma J told me not to be polite, but Ma J is truly polite. He's generous and helpful. No wonder he's been given the important position of the top leader. I sincerely admire him."
Director Ma was so coaxed into a good mood that he took the initiative to mention, "It's also thanks to the support of you development friends. By the way, your new project is called Health City, right? If you do this, I'll have someone contact you tomorrow to submit the necessary documents and help speed up the process."
Having achieved his goal, Wang Yuanling put on a grateful face and said, "Okay, thank you for your help!"
"No, no." A shrewd glint flashed in his triangular eyes. Thinking of the "harmonious" situation tonight, he also gave way: "I also want to thank Mr. Ling. Last time, when I... ahem, drunk and fell into the pool, you sent someone to pull me out in time."
Wang Yuanling understood and went down the steps he held out. "I should do what I should do. Ma J, don't worry about it."
Ma J glanced at the side and said, "Oh, my driver is parked over there."
Wang Yuanling immediately took the initiative: "Ma J, let me take you there with an umbrella. Please wait a moment, I will go get the umbrella."
Ma J stopped shirking responsibility this time.
Wang Yuanling returned to the hall and, in addition to the umbrella, also brought out a bag of golden-wrapped gifts.
Ma J stared at the bag of gifts with a satisfied look on his face.
After Wang Yuanling sent everyone and the gifts into the car, he watched it drive away.
Then he held an umbrella and went back to the restaurant entrance.
As soon as I stepped onto the stairs, the edge of the umbrella was lifted.
Her eyes unexpectedly met Gu Zhou's dark eyes.
At this moment, those deep eyes were filled with undisguised, scorching admiration.
Seeing this made her heart ache.
She subconsciously turned sideways, tilted the umbrella to the other side, and carefully folded it to prevent the rain from splashing on him.
After putting away the umbrella, she raised her eyelashes again and met Gu Zhou's gaze.
Actively report: "I'll have to trouble Ma J in the future, so I prepared some small gifts in advance. Gifts are always appreciated. Ma J just agreed to send someone to contact me tomorrow to help promote our project."
There was a hint of relaxation in her gentle voice after finishing her chores.
Under the light, a few glistening raindrops clung to the ends of her hair, gleaming slightly as she moved. Her pearly eyes remained bright, only shrouded in a subtle weariness that only added a touch of warmth and allure.
Gu Zhou leaned against the corridor pillar, his figure looked particularly tall and straight in the halo of the rainy night, with a hint of laziness after drinking.
He looked at the raindrops on her hair and the toughness between her brows softened by weariness.
He smiled faintly: "Cooperating with President Ling is really worry-free."
She smiled modestly: "Thank you for your recognition, Mr. Gu. I just want to push the project forward as soon as possible."
Gu Zhou's deep voice mixed with the sound of rain had a special charm: "I can see your intentions. You didn't even notice that your shoes were wet."
Wang Yuanling lowered her head. She was not wearing leather high heels today, but suede high heels, which were so wet that the color had changed.
She looked up and smiled nonchalantly: "It's okay, just go back and dry it."
Gu Zhou replied softly, "Did you bring tissues?"
She was stunned for a moment, not understanding what was going on, but she still lowered her head and rummaged through her bag: "I have it in my bag."
She pulled out a piece of paper and handed it to Gu Zhou, not knowing why he suddenly wanted a tissue.
He just took the tissue.
Squat down on one knee.
His warm fingertips gently wiped the raindrops on the back of her feet through a thin tissue.
In an instant.
Her feet seemed to have taken root, frozen in place, unable to move.
The cool dampness contrasted sharply with the warmth from his fingertips, sending an electric current running down my spine.
The sound of raindrops hitting the roof and the noise of traffic in the distance were instantly stretched far away and blurred. All that was left around him was his lowered brows and the unignorable touch of his fingertips.
He wiped it slowly and carefully, as if he were wiping a precious piece of porcelain.
The cool rain breeze brushed across her exposed ankles, but it did not bring any coolness. Instead, it was dispelled by the inexplicable heat rising from the bottom of her heart.
She clenched the strap of her bag so tightly that her nails almost dug into her palms, trying to suppress the urge to retreat.
My eyes had nowhere to go but to the top of his dark hair, watching it gleam faintly under the corridor light.
"Okay." His deep voice broke the heart-pounding silence.
Gu Zhou stood up, his movements calm and unhurried, as if he had just done something very ordinary.
He crumpled the muddy tissue into his palm and looked back at her face, with a hint of inquiry, a hint of understanding, and that scorching admiration that had never faded.
Wang Yuanling's breathing was slightly choked, and he could almost hear his own heartbeat like a drum.
My cheeks were uncontrollably hot, but fortunately there was the cover of night.
She forced herself to remain calm, met his gaze, and tried to keep her voice steady: "Thank you, Mr. Gu."
