Chapter 399 Sleepwalking
Early morning.
Everything is quiet.
The room was so quiet that you could hear a pin drop.
"Click." The door handle opened.
It wasn't loud, but in this quiet environment, it stood out.
Gu Zhou's newly brewing sleepiness subsided. Without raising his eyes, he pricked up his ears to listen to the noise.
She is walking.
Very slow.
Very light.
Did she get up to go to the bathroom or drink some water?
He was guessing.
Suddenly I heard the sound of the sofa sinking.
Gu Zhou:?
He opened his eyes.
I saw her sitting upright on the sofa, staring at the wall.
Gu Zhou raised his eyebrows: "Boss Ling?"
She didn't respond.
Not moving at all.
Gu Zhou sat up from the soft bed, a hint of confusion flashing across his dark eyes: "What are you doing up?"
She still didn't respond.
Just sit on the sofa.
Didn't even look at him.
She suddenly stood up again, and Gu Zhou frowned.
She walked slowly towards the door.
The finger bone covered the door handle and was about to open the door.
Gu Zhou held him down.
His warm big hand covered the back of her cold hand, and he frowned as he stared at her face with her eyes open but expressionless.
Finally realized something was wrong.
"Yuan Ling?" His voice was deep.
Just as expected.
No response.
because.
She is sleepwalking.
She seemed to sense only the obstruction, and the fingers under his palm stubbornly and slowly continued to exert force to open the door, resisting his obstruction.
She has little power, and carries with her an irrational sense of imperatives that must be fulfilled.
He had heard before that one should not forcibly wake a sleepwalker.
He didn't dare to pry her hands apart for fear of disturbing her and triggering an even more uncontrollable reaction.
He could only wrap her hand firmly: "Yuan Ling, look at me."
He tried to guide it, his voice very soft, as if he was soothing a frightened little animal.
"It's me, Gu Zhou. It's very late. Don't go out, be good."
She seemed to have heard it, or perhaps she sensed that the door could not be opened.
Finally, she let go of the doorknob and pulled it from under his palm.
Gu Zhou immediately let go of her hand as she wished.
Wang Yuanling turned around.
Walk towards the kitchen.
Gu Zhou followed her closely, his sharp eyes scanning her body. Her pajamas were neatly arranged and her bare feet were stepping on the cold floor.
Her empty eyes, slow and silent walking movements, and the precision of her posture that almost did not touch any obstacles, did seem like typical characteristics of sleepwalking.
A sense of danger crept into his heart. If he hadn't stopped her, would she have opened the door and gone out?
On the streets late at night, an unconscious sleepwalker... the consequences are disastrous.
Gu Zhou's expression grew increasingly gloomy. When she passed by the table, he quickly reached out and wrapped his hands around the edge of the table to prevent her from bumping into it.
I saw her reaching for the stove switch.
Gu Zhou's pupils froze for a moment, and he quickly reached out to cover the switch.
Her fingertips only touched the back of his hand.
It fell for two seconds, then seemed to sense something was wrong, raised it again, and walked towards the refrigerator.
The refrigerator door was open, and cold air silently diffused out, like a layer of mist, wrapping Yuan Ling's thin pajamas and her lifeless silhouette.
The cold white light in the refrigerator outlined her pale jawline, and her long eyelashes cast a small shadow under her eyes, making her empty eyes look even more empty.
She didn't take anything, just stood in front of the refrigerator.
Gu Zhou's heart was hanging, and he didn't dare to relax at all.
Any item in the kitchen can be a potential source of danger.
He followed closely behind her, his tall body leaning forward slightly in a protective posture, his eyes scanning the interior of the refrigerator and her surroundings sharply, ready to respond to any emergency at any time.
Softly: "Are you hungry? What do you want to eat?"
She didn't respond.
Gu Zhou called out softly, "Yuan Ling." His voice lowered even lower, with a hint of temptation and guidance: "The air conditioner is too strong, can you turn it off? Or...what do you want to get? I'll help you."
He tried to understand the logic behind her actions, even though that logic might not exist at all while sleepwalking.
She still didn't respond, like a cold statue forgotten in front of a refrigerator.
Time seemed to be stretched out, and only the dull hum of the refrigerator compressor was heard, which was particularly clear in the silent night.
Just as Gu Zhou was thinking about whether he should try to gently close the refrigerator door, Yuan Ling finally moved.
Instead of taking the food, she slowly raised one hand and gently ran her fingertips across the tiny water droplets condensed on the inner wall of the refrigerator, leaving a winding wet mark.
The movements were mechanical and focused, as if completing a vital task.
Her profile was so white that it was almost transparent under the cold light, her bloodless lips were slightly pursed, and her long eyelashes did not even tremble.
Seeing this, Gu Zhou's eyes became more fierce.
Besides being afraid of the dark, she can also sleepwalk?
He stared at her deeply and whispered, "What secrets are you hiding?"
She pressed her knuckles against the refrigerator door and finally closed the refrigerator that was emitting cold air.
Walked towards the hall again.
Fortunately, there wasn't much clutter in her house, so Gu Zhou only needed to follow her closely and move the object away in advance when he sensed that she was about to bump into something.
As if remembering something, his black eyes paused.
No wonder there are more hard furnishings than soft furnishings in her house.
She knew that she would sleepwalk, so she decorated the house with such a spacious main structure.
Gu Zhou's eyes were complex and deep as he looked at her profile.
He followed her.
Return to the lobby.
She sank into the sofa again, her slender waist was straight, she sat upright, her hands resting naturally on her knees.
He looked so well behaved.
He half-knelt in front of her, watching her staring at the wall, as if she had lost her soul, with no trace of the gentle and bright look of the past.
Like a lifeless shell.
Gu Zhou felt an endless bitterness in his heart.
Excessive stress can trigger sleepwalking.
How could she have so many psychological problems at such a young age?
He just squatted there, staring at her.
In the living room, there was only a faint light coming in from the entrance, outlining the outline of her sitting quietly.
Time passes by minute by minute, and every second seems to be stretched.
Gu Zhou didn't dare to move even a step, or even breathe loudly, for fear that the slightest disturbance would lead her in an unpredictable direction.
His arm muscles were slightly tense, ready to deal with any emergency at any time.
I don’t know how long it took, maybe ten minutes, maybe half an hour, Wang Yuanling’s empty eyes seemed to have a very subtle change... It was not focus, but more like a switch of internal commands.
Without any warning, she lay down extremely slowly, her body sinking into the soft sofa, her head resting on the armrest.
Although his posture was still stiff, the tense lines of his spine finally relaxed a little.
Gu Zhou held his breath and observed carefully.
Her eyelids were not closed, but her gaze, which was staring straight ahead, seemed to have lost its target and become more distracted.
Is sleepwalking...over? Or has it entered another phase?
He was not sure and still maintained a half-squatting posture, like a most loyal guard, guarding the edge of this silent danger.
Her voice was hoarse and light: "Yuan Ling... go to sleep if you are tired. It's safe here..."
"I'm so tired." She suddenly murmured.
Gu Zhou's eyes were filled with heartache, and he raised his fingertips slightly, wanting to touch her face.
But his pupils suddenly shrank because of her next sentence: "Mom and Dad, I'm so tired."
