Chapter 4 Farewell Dinner
From the moment she entered the elevator, Mu Yuan was guessing why he asked her to come over.
As soon as Don Nana made an appointment with her, it was his turn to make an appointment.
Is she a little interest in their play?
Are you going to treat her to a farewell dinner?
Are you planning to divorce her so you can marry Don Nana?
Facing the closed door of the private room, she felt inexplicably nervous.
Two seconds later, he knocked on the door with his bent fingers.
Push the door open with bated breath.
The words on her lips: "I have to go home to get my ID card and household registration booklet before I can get a divorce."
When I saw the curly-haired foreigner sitting in the seat, I was so surprised that I swallowed my food back into my stomach.
“Norman?!”
Her idol, the genius plant scientist who won the Nobel Prize, was sitting right in front of her.
Norman winked at her and spoke fluent Chinese: "Hello~~Mrs. Huo."
"Hello, hello..." Mu Yuan was stunned. How did he know she was Mrs. Huo?
She glanced sideways.
She met Huo Min, who was leaning lazily against the back of the chair, his long legs crossed, his black eyes piercing through the air and staring straight at her.
He said in a low, piercing voice, "Come here."
She walked over in a daze and sat in the empty seat between her idol and Huo Min.
As soon as they sat down, Norman enthusiastically started talking to her about plants, especially the green iris she was studying. He was very happy that someone was also studying this rare flower species, and he talked endlessly about his research experience.
Mu Yuan's eyes paused slightly, and he glanced at Huo Min, who had a very strong presence.
Norman couldn't be a prophet, so he was the one who said the story about the green iris.
Did she tell him?
It seems not?
The many questions in my mind were interrupted by a spoonful of stir-fried lilies in the bowl.
Huo Min stared at her with indifferent eyes, but he didn't speak to her: "Norman, Chinese food doesn't taste good when it's cold."
Norman slapped his head quickly: "Oh God, yes, I have a lot of Chinese food to try this time. Mrs. Huo, you should come and eat too."
After he said that, he skillfully picked up a piece of fried oyster for himself with chopsticks. It seemed that he used chopsticks quite a lot.
Mu Yuan bit into the lily, her mouth full of sweetness. She was curious: "Norman, are you coming to China to attend some academic forum?"
Norman was puzzled: "No, I came to see you and eat Chinese food."
"See me?" Mu Yuan was confused.
Norman nodded vigorously, his mouth bulging from the oysters. "Mr. Huo has invited me many times, saying his wife is a fan of mine and he hopes to meet me someday and treat me to Chinese food."
Mu Yuan was stunned.
I never thought that my idol came to China for this reason.
She looked at Huo Min, only to see that his expression remained calm, as if he was not the one who organized the party.
Meeting her gaze, his narrow, dark eyes were filled with distraction: "He's leaving tomorrow morning. Time is precious. Why not seize every minute to see his idol?"
It was like a stone was thrown at her, and ripples of water unconsciously spread in Mu Yuan's heart.
At ten o'clock, after sending Norman back to the hotel.
On the return trip on the highway, vehicles were speeding and the road scenery was blurry.
In the car, Mu Yuan chattered away, her fair cheeks flushed with excitement.
"Norman is really amazing. He's actually started studying the genetics of endangered flower species. If his research is successful, these dying flower species could be cultivated artificially..."
When her throat felt dry, she realized she had been talking for a long time.
The rationality that was suppressed by excitement returned a little.
She anxiously looked at his superior profile and said embarrassedly, "I'm sorry... I'm so happy. Isn't it boring to talk about this?"
"No." He cast his dark eyes at me: "It's quite interesting."
She rarely shared her happiness with him; they were like strangers living under the same roof.
The dim light from the window illuminated his raised lips, making him less cold and more approachable.
Mu Yuan's fingertips lightly touched each other, and thinking of Norman's words today, she asked softly and curiously: "How did you and Norman meet?"
An investor and a scientist, two people who can't get along with each other.
"We met by chance at the M Country Business Expo half a year ago."
Half a year ago...
Mu Yuan remembered that day when she worked overtime until the early morning, and when she got home she saw the note he left on the coffee table: [I'm going to Country M and will be back on Saturday.]
She remembered that there were reports online that Don Nana would be walking the runway at a fashion show in Country M.
She thought he had come all the way to see Don Nana.
It turned out that he was going to attend the trade fair... and he even helped her make an appointment with Norman.
She raised the corners of her lips, her almond eyes curved like a half moon, shining brightly in the night: "Thank you, you are such a good friend!"
Huo Min's eyes darkened, and he said hoarsely, "You're welcome."
His blood rushed violently, his heart itched for a moment, and he lowered his eyes to hide his secret feelings.
Mu Yuan happily fell asleep holding a photo with her idol, but just before she fell into a deep sleep, she remembered that she had forgotten to tell Huo Min about what happened today.
She thought dazedly, forget it, let's talk about it tomorrow...
But I didn't expect it.
When I woke up the next day, Huo Min had already left.
And on the table, there was hot tea he had brewed.
I touched the wall of the cup and it was hot. He must have left not long ago.
Did he drink tea instead of coffee this morning?
Mu Yuan glanced at the can of coffee beans.
It turns out he was out of coffee beans, no wonder he was making tea.
Anyway, she can just sit back and enjoy the benefits without having to make the tea herself.
After the hot tea went down his throat, Mu Yuan's stomach, which had been uncomfortable since early morning, felt much better.
I looked at the time and my period should be coming soon.
While drinking the delicious tea, she reflexively thought of the unpalatable flavored black tea from yesterday.
Since Huo Min is not here, I'll wait for him to come back tonight and then tell him about Don Nana.
After making this decision, Mu Yuan finished his hot tea and went out to catch the subway.
laboratory.
Mu Yuan was busy until noon, and it was almost time for lunch when she heard the deputy dean excitedly say, "Important notice, important notice, the group is giving out seasonal benefits: hairy crabs! The cafeteria is steaming them, and everyone will get two later!"
The meal standard has been upgraded and everyone is happy.
The hairy crabs are very fresh and sweet, and Mu Yuan, who loves it the most, eats them with relish.
Until the evening, when all her colleagues had left work and she was the only one working overtime, she vaguely felt that something was wrong with her stomach.
But she ignored it.
Half an hour later, she was in so much pain that she couldn't straighten her back.
"Zizi." The phone vibrated and she opened it with a pale face.
Husband: [We have hairy crabs at home]
She was about to type, but when she stretched her arm, her abdomen felt bloated and painful.
With a flick of his finger, he dialed the call.
"!" Mu Yuan was surprised and wanted to hang up the call.
But if you move too quickly, the pain will worsen.
"Hello." Huo Min's low-pitched voice came from the microphone.
No sound was heard.
Huo Min called out again: "Mu Yuan?"
Mu Yuan gritted her teeth, endured the pain and sat up, gasping for breath: "I'm sorry, I..."
Huo Min heard the tremor in her voice and immediately said in a deep voice, "What's wrong with you?"
"I...I'm fine."
Huo Min didn't believe it and asked sternly, "Where are you?"
Mu Yuan was in so much pain that her voice became weaker and weaker: "I'm in the lab."
"Wait."
He didn't hang up the phone.
In the quiet laboratory, the sound of doors opening and running from the other end of the microphone was suddenly amplified.
Mu Yuan realized that he was rushing over in a hurry.
When Huo Min arrived, Mu Yuan's face was pale, and she was curled up like a cat. The hair on her forehead was wet with sweat, and her bright almond-shaped eyes were lifeless.
His heart tightened.
"Mu Yuan!"
