Chapter 406 Don’t you know that you can sleepwalk?
He spoke slowly, each word clear and distinct: "Aren't you asking me what I want to talk to you about?"
His eyes were blazing.
She was overwhelmed.
Trying to maintain a smile, she said, "Mr. Gu, if you have anything to say, just tell me."
"Don't you want to guess?"
Her smile froze for a second. "I won't guess... I can't guess right. I didn't guess right last time."
It seems to be covered by dark clouds.
The warm sunlight that was originally reflected on the car window dimmed.
His dark eyes lost their luster, becoming even darker and more unpredictable.
"You said I was drunk."
He was saying, what he said last night: 'I like you.'
She said it as: being drunk and talking nonsense.
Realized what he was referring to.
Her body suddenly stiffened.
It reached him through the back of his hand.
Gu Zhou leaned forward suddenly, shortening the already precarious distance between the two of them.
The strong sense of oppression was like a real wave, sweeping over her, almost suffocating her, and even her breathing slowed down.
Her breathing slowed down and she pretended to be dumb: "Mr. Gu, what did you say? I don't quite understand. Well, I have something else to do, so I'll go ahead..."
She wanted to turn sideways.
His wrist was suddenly grabbed.
The action was stopped instantly.
He tightened his grip on her slender wrist, not allowing her to break free. His dark eyes were heavy, as if they could absorb all the light around them, leaving only a heart-pounding darkness.
He opened his thin lips slightly and spoke each word with emphasis: "I'm not talking drunkenly."
Her throat was dry: "Gu..."
"I like you."
His voice was steady, firmer and smoother than when he first spoke it last night.
The air froze instantly.
The circle of his grip around my wrist was burning hot, the heat almost burning through my blood and into my heart.
She pursed her lips tightly, speechless, but unable to stop him from continuing to confess.
His voice was low and hoarse, filled with a desperate determination: "You don't accept my help, but you are questioning my intentions. Fine, then I will lay all my intentions out in the open..."
He locked onto her flickering gaze, and spoke each word with force:
"And I promise you: I'm helping you purely because I want to. I will never use this as leverage to coerce you into agreeing to my confession. Now, are you willing to accept my help?"
The light that was blocked by the dark clouds re-reflected on the car window and scattered over his head and body.
The sharp facial features were outlined by the light, and the golden edges revealed a gentleness that was not aggressive at all.
Her heart was pounding, and she tried to test him: "Mr. Gu, your confession... is too sudden."
"Suddenly?" He spoke lazily, "Not suddenly. I've been holding it in for a long time."
Of course she knows.
But she kept pretending not to know and teased him intentionally or unintentionally.
When he couldn't help himself, she suddenly pulled away.
He held her wrist tightly and did not let go. He even unconsciously rubbed the skin inside her wrist with the tip of his thumb with a burning temperature, which triggered a fine electric current and made half of her body numb.
Her heart was filled with passion as she chose her words carefully: "Mr. Gu, thank you for your love, but I still hope that the relationship between us is just a pure partnership."
His eyes were deep and he pulled his lips: "Is this what you really mean?"
She paused slightly and said, "Well, it's the truth."
"Okay, as you wish."
He answered very readily.
She was so stunned that she felt a little unprepared.
He loosened his grip on her wrist.
The force was withdrawn cleanly and quickly, as if the burning heat and restraint she had felt were merely an illusion. The sudden loss of the scorching heat and pressure on her wrist left her heart feeling strangely empty.
Gu Zhou stepped back, widening the precarious distance between the two of them again.
The oppressive feeling receded like the tide, and the air in the car seemed to start flowing again, but the solidified heaviness did not completely dissipate.
There was no expression on his face, one could even say it was calm, except for his bottomless black eyes, which looked particularly deep and incomprehensible in the glaring sunlight that was once again filtering through the car window.
The response was too straightforward, almost formulaic, and completely different from any reaction she had expected...whether it was anger, resentment, loss, or even relentless questioning...
All the responses she had prepared, all the excuses she had used to maintain a respectful distance, were instantly stuck in her throat.
The anticipated "battle" ended suddenly, and her opponent left the stage cleanly and neatly, which made her feel a sense of weightlessness and... an indescribable sense of loss?
"Mr. Gu, I..."
His voice was scattered, and he suddenly changed the subject: "You have rejected my intention. I think you should be able to accept my help without distraction now?"
Wang Yuanling was stunned: "What?" He didn't react for a moment.
Her heart was beating like a drum, and the words "concentrate on one thing" were like a stone thrown into stagnant water, disturbing her thinking.
Looking at his recovered relaxed expression, she took a deep breath: "Mr. Gu, may I ask why you suddenly want to help me?"
Made a big turn.
Back to this point again.
Gu Zhou's eyes were dark: "You don't know..." He paused for a moment: "Can you sleepwalk?"
Wang Yuanling's beautiful eyes froze for a moment, and her pupils shrank imperceptibly! A chill rose from the soles of her feet again.
Catching the barely concealed surprise and a hint of panic on her face, Gu Zhou's voice was still lazy and slow, but every word was clear: "You are not only sleepwalking, you are also complaining. You said you are very tired."
Wang Yuanling felt his scalp tingling and a layer of cold sweat instantly broke out on his back.
Deep in her eyes, a huge tension was uncontrollably accumulated. She was cautious, almost holding her breath and testing: "Boss Gu, then I... didn't say anything weird, right?"
Gu Zhou's expression remained unchanged, and he said lazily, "No."
She called for mom and dad in her dream.
She actually remembers her memories before she was 11 years old.
She was hiding something from him.
He didn't mention any of this.
His dark eyes were not as carefree as his expression suggested, instead they held an imperceptible sharpness.
I caught a look on her gentle face: relief.
She seemed to be glad that she didn't say the wrong thing.
He didn't discover the secret.
pity.
He has discovered it.
The car fell into a brief silence, with only the faint sound of air flow from the air-conditioning vents.
He spoke slowly, "When you were sleepwalking, you subconsciously came to me to complain. How could I just stand by and watch?"
So that's how it is.
That's why he wanted to trick her and ask her if she had encountered any difficulties.
He thought.
When she said she was very tired, she was referring to work.
She tried to remain calm: "Boss Gu, how can you take dream talk seriously? It's just unconscious behavior, it doesn't represent any real meaning. Besides, I don't feel..."
Gu Zhou interrupted her, his tone calm but with undeniable strength: "Your subconscious is more honest than you."
She was speechless.
After all, it was she who came to him to complain about sleepwalking.
He leaned forward slightly, closing the distance again, his gaze fixed on her gravely. "I'll say it again, my help has no strings attached, and I don't have the 'intentions' you're worried about. I simply don't want to see you struggling alone. Last night's 'love' was true, and this 'help' is also true. They can be separated and not interfere with each other. You can rest assured. You can reject my feelings, but you have no right to decide for me whether I should care about a... friend."
He pronounced the word "friend" clearly and subtly.
Wang Yuanling was left speechless by his series of words.
He had a rigorous logic and pressed her step by step, even bringing up her "subconscious" as an argument, making all her rejections seem pale and powerless, and even a little... ungrateful?
She pursed her lips tightly, but he was still aggressive and overbearing: "So, choose one, accept my confession or accept my help?"
Wang Yuanling's eyelashes trembled.
How can these two be confused?
