Chapter 40: Heavy Rain Today, Raspberry Cake

Boom—the heavy rain arrived as promised.

The lights were on in the classroom, and the teacher's voice was a little louder. Yun Xiang held up his face and looked out the window, his eyes dim, his thoughts drifting to who knows where.

The sky outside the window gradually darkened, and raindrops hit the window mercilessly, leaving behind water droplets with crackling sounds.

Cheng Che looked up and glanced at Yun Xiang. Ever since the rain started, she had been staring out the window in a daze.

She seems to like rainy days very much. In her circle of friends, there are countless pictures of rainy days.

"Yun Xiang?"

"Yun Xiang!"

The teacher called Yunxiang from the podium.

Cheng Che pursed his lips and rubbed Yun Xiang's arm with his elbow.

Yun Xiang raised her eyes and looked at Cheng Che, her almond-shaped eyes calm and indifferent. Hmm?

"Yun Xiang, how many times have you been distracted?" Shen Hangyu reminded him in an unhappy tone on the podium.

Yun Xiang was a little dazed and quickly said, "Sorry, teacher."

Shen Hangyu frowned and said, "Study hard."

Yun Xiang lowered his head, flipped through the book in his hand in a panic, and sighed deeply.

Cheng Che looked out the window, not understanding what attracted her to this rainy day, causing a good student who never lost her concentration to be called on by the teacher several times today.

"Think about it, don't take the bus at night. My dad will pick you up and take you there together." Luomi sat back and said to Yunxiang.

Yun Xiang shook his head, "No, I have something to do after school."

Romi turned his head immediately, huh?

It's raining heavily and windy outside. What's wrong with her?

"Aren't you going home?" asked Lomi.

Yun Xiang hummed "hmm" and said nothing more. He seemed a little absent-minded.

Luo Mi looked at Cheng Che, puzzled, and asked with his eyes: Are you together?

Cheng Che shook his head. He didn't know where Yun wanted to go.

Luomi frowned. Although she was curious, she didn't ask since Yunxiang didn't say anything.

"Okay." Romi nodded and sat back.

Cheng Che looked at Yun Xiang for a moment longer, not knowing what Yun Xiang was thinking.

As soon as the school bell rang, Yun Xiang stuffed his books into his desk, picked up his umbrella and left.

Cheng Che looked at Yun Xiang's back and couldn't help but feel curious. Where were he going in such a hurry?

It was raining heavily, and raindrops fell on the umbrella, and the dull sound of raindrops kept coming into my ears.

Yunxiang was holding an umbrella in one hand and a mobile phone in the other, looking for a nearby cake shop.

Pedestrians hurried along the streets, their shoulders and trouser legs soaked by raindrops. The accumulated rain on the ground acted like a mirror, reflecting the city's features. It also reflected the thin, frail, and hurried figures of the clouds.

Yun Xiang pushed open the door of a cake shop. She closed her umbrella and asked politely, "Hello, do you have raspberry cake?"

Waiter: "Raspberry cake? Sorry, we don't have that."

Yun Xiang nodded slightly, thanked him, and went to look for the next cake shop.

Yun wanted to push the door open, but she retracted her umbrella and asked gently, "Hello, do you have raspberry cake?"

Waiter: “Sorry, no.”

She pushed the door open again, letting the breeze dry her half-wet clothes, which were repeatedly wet by the rain falling from the eaves. "Hello, do we have raspberry cake in our store? Slices are also available."

Waiter: "We don't make cakes with such a niche flavor in our store."

Yun Xiang stood at a huge intersection, the traffic lights constantly changing, and the pedestrians waiting for the green light around him also changed one after another.

Yun Xiang looked at the city, her hand holding the umbrella gradually tightened, and she couldn't help but lower her head, sadness suddenly surged towards her.

How could it be that in such a big city, you couldn't even buy a piece of raspberry cake? She didn't believe it.

Yun wanted to wipe away her tears secretly. She pulled up her trouser legs and broke into this huge city again.

Yunxiang stopped in front of a cake shop called "What Time Is Cake".

This is the shop with the highest ratings and the most complete selection on Dianping.com. If you still can't find it... Yun wanted to push the door open. This time, she didn't even put away her umbrella. Instead, she was half inside the shop and half outside with her umbrella. "Hello, I'd like to ask if we have... raspberry cake?"

The store is warmly decorated with flowers and dolls everywhere, and the walls are covered with Q-version pictures of various desserts.

The room is filled with display cabinets, which are very high-end and not messy at all.

When Yun wanted to speak, the shop was empty. But when she finished, a beautiful woman with cream on her face and wearing a shop apron stood up from the counter. She looked a little dazed, her face flushed, as if she'd been drinking and was a little tipsy.

"What did you say?" she asked, her ears pricked up.

Yun Xiang glanced around the store and was sure that the cake she wanted would not be available.

"Raspberry cake?" The woman repeated what Yun Xiang had just said.

Yun Xiang paused for a moment, then nodded. Her beautiful almond-shaped eyes were dull and lifeless, and her frustration was visibly evident. She no longer had any expectations.

Yun thought: "Yes, sister, do you have raspberry cake?"

She clapped her hands together, extremely excited, "Of course! It's our new product!"

Hearing this, Yun Xiang's eyes lit up. Really? She couldn't believe it.

The woman came out of the bar, and Yun Xiang quickly put away her umbrella. She came over, took Yun Xiang's umbrella, and put it aside. She said warmly, "I just launched this cake, and today's the first day it's on the shelves. What a coincidence."

Yun Xiang followed her and heard her ask, "Little girl, why are you out in the rain buying cakes?"

"Yeah." Yun Xiang just responded.

The woman looked at Yun Xiang and stopped in front of a display case. "Look, is this the raspberry cake you wanted?"

Yun wanted to lower his head, but when he saw the raspberry cake, he unconsciously took a step forward.

The black cream mixed with mulberry juice is spread on the outside, and inside is a thin layer of cake base and raspberry jam. The surface of the cake is covered with dried raspberries, mulberries and raspberry jam, and the overall color is black and red.

This is the same raspberry cake her father bought her.

Exactly the same...

Dad is usually busy with work and only comes home when it rains. Every time he comes home, no matter how late it is, he always brings himself a piece of raspberry cake.

So, the raspberry cake bought by her father would appear in the refrigerator, on the dining table, on her homework book, on the bedside table...it would appear in every place where she could see it the first time she got home from school or woke up.

The first time her father bought her a raspberry cake, Yun Xiang was surprised. Why would anyone buy a cake like that for a girl? It wasn't pretty, and the taste wasn't particularly unique.

But Dad said that he wanted to be like this cake, looking cold and cool on the outside, but pink on the inside, forever young and sweet. Later, Yun Xiang fell in love with raspberry cake.

Until my father died.

On a rainy day, she could no longer wait for the raspberry cake her father bought for her.

To prove her father still existed, she began to imitate him and buy herself a piece of raspberry cake every rainy day. But the raspberry cake she bought was never as sweet as the one her father bought her. Obviously, she went to the same store where her father bought it.

"Little girl, do you want to pack up?" The sister's gentle words brought Yun Xiang back to her senses.
