Chapter 12 Donkey-hide gelatin

After walking for another hour, Qinling suggested that everyone rest and eat something before continuing.

Just as I was about to take out my rations, I heard the sound of a convoy approaching in the distance.

A group of people quickly retreated to the side of the road. Qin Xian saw the approaching person and shouted.

"Fourth cousin, it was fourth cousin who drove the carriage, and there were several donkey carts following behind!"

Everyone looked toward the convoy. As the carriage drew near, Qin Yi reined in his horse, jumped off, and ran to Qin Ling, kneeling down before him.

"Uncle, you've suffered so much. It's all my fault. I should have come back sooner!"

Qinling helped him up

"Silly child, nobody wants their child to come home when something like this happens. You've come at the perfect time; everyone's exhausted. How about you give us a ride in your car?"

"Alright, alright, these are all for the village's use, one horse-drawn cart and five donkey carts in total!"

Qinling looked at it and nodded.

"How much silver is it in total? I'll get it for you when I get back!"

"The carriage was originally intended for you. Your second uncle's carriage is already at your third cousin's house. Anyone who wants a donkey cart can buy it for the price I paid—only ten taels of silver!"

Qin Liang and Qin Xian both raised their hands, but in the end, the two of them only got one car. There were too many people who wanted it, so there weren't enough to go around!

The group happily rode in a donkey cart towards the county town!

Qin Luo was very happy sitting in the donkey cart; it was her first time riding in a donkey cart!

Qin Liang had asked her to choose the donkey cart, and Qin Luo immediately took a liking to it.

This donkey has a ring of white hair around its mouth, which is very noticeable, like it drank milk and didn't have time to wipe its mouth!

Before getting on the donkey cart, Qin Luo fed the donkey a piece of candy, which made the donkey extremely happy, and it kept rubbing against Qin Luo.

Qin Liang looked delighted and said

"Luo Luo, you should name it! It likes you so much, it'll definitely like the name you choose!"

Qin Luo thought about it seriously.

"Uncle, cousin, shall we call it donkey-hide gelatin?"

"Donkey-hide gelatin? Luo Luo even knows about that? That's something only available in the capital. Where did you hear about it?"

Qin Liang was quite puzzled

Qin Luo mentally called out to Wu Hua

"Little one, quick, quick, find me a piece of paper and write the words 'donkey-hide gelatin' on it!"

"Okay!"

Wu Hua grabbed her paper and pen, and began to write furiously, brandishing her little pig trotters.

Upon hearing Qin Liang's question, Qin Luo reached into her bag and explained.

"I saw it written on a piece of paper. Wait a moment while I look for it!"

Then, pretending to rummage through the bag, he kept urging himself on...

"Little one, hurry up, hurry up!"

"They're here!" Wu Hua had just finished speaking.

Qin Luo took out a piece of paper from the cloth bag, on which the two characters "Ejiao" were written crookedly.

Qin Liang stared at those two words, his brows furrowing deeply.

"Who wrote this? They need to practice their handwriting!"

Wu Hua gritted her teeth in anger.

"When I transform into human form and go out, the first thing I'll do is beat him up! Hmph! What does he know? This is already the limit for how much I can write about my beastly hooves. You annoying brat, nee nee nee nee~"

"Sweetie, let's not stoop to his level. I understand you; your writing is better than mine!"

Wu Hua felt a little better after hearing her say that.

Qin Luo gazed at Qin Liang with a slight air of longing.

"Uncle, apologize quickly! Lord Kang is angry; these words were written with an animal's hoof!"

Qin Liang was inwardly panicked, but he forced himself to remain calm.

"What? You mean this writing was done by the kind-hearted Lord Kang using an animal's hoof? Good heavens! An animal's hoof can write like this?"

He then turned to look at the people behind him.

"Then we should try to learn from Lord Kang! Being Lord Kang is truly amazing. Not only do we have to learn about auspicious beasts, but we also have to celebrate the harvest for the people, and now we have to learn human writing. It's truly admirable!"

Qin Xian and Qin Xing were initially worried that Qin Liang would anger the auspicious beast, but after hearing these words, they realized their worries were unfounded.

With this flattery, any blame will probably disappear...

As expected, upon hearing Qin Liang's words, Wu Hua called out to Qin Luo, feeling embarrassed.

"Luo Luo, did I misunderstand him? Turns out I'm so great in his eyes! Luo Luo, tell him I forgive him! Hehehe~"

Qin Luo gave Qin Liang a thumbs up: "Uncle, you're amazing!"

Then I stuffed the paper into his hand.

"When Lord Kang says he misunderstood you, this calligraphy is for you!"

Qin Liang was overjoyed; this was calligraphy written by Lord Kang. He clasped his hands together and bowed towards the sky.

"Thank you very much for your generous gift, Lord Kang!"

The three envious people standing nearby said: "We also want to get the calligraphy that Master Kang wrote!"

Qin Liang pretended not to notice the three people's glances and handed the paper to Qin Luo.

"Put it in your bag first, and have your aunt keep it safe when you get back. Once we get to our new place, I'll find a framer to properly frame this calligraphy!"

Qin Luo carefully put the papers away and then gave each of them a milk candy.

The three envious people who got the candy were no longer envious!

The group chatted and laughed along the way...

The donkey cart traveled for more than an hour before finally arriving in the county town, which was now even more desolate than before…

Qinling told everyone to disperse and find what they needed, and then gather in front of Baiweilou Restaurant after they had bought everything.

Qin Liang took Qin Xian and Qin Luo to buy ready-made clothes, while Qin Xing accompanied Qin Ling and the others to the county government office to get their travel permits.

All the larger shops in the county have closed down; the owners of these shops have businesses in many places.

They can arrange their own and their shop assistants' whereabouts; they don't need to relocate.

Only those with nowhere else to go go to relocation sites; those still running shops are people waiting for relocation permits.
