After the others left, Village Chief He called his children and grandchildren into the main room for a lecture.
"He Huaixing, how old are you? That banyan tree is so tall, how dare you take Sui Sui up there? Aren't you afraid of scaring him?"
He Huaixing showed no remorse for his mistake and instead corrected him.
"Dad, we didn't climb up, we flew up!"
He Sui Sui chimed in from the side.
"Yes! Whoosh, whoosh, whoosh, it flew up in an instant!"
Village Chief He's head ached from looking at the father and son. His son, when he was young, was both clever and quick-witted.
Not only did he have beautiful handwriting, but he was also highly praised by his teachers for his scholarship.
Unfortunately, he later developed a fever and was sent to the city for treatment overnight. When he returned, he was much more mentally challenged than before.
My grandson is clever, but also incredibly mischievous.
His maternal grandfather was a storyteller, and he would tell him martial arts stories in his spare time.
At only four years old, he's already thinking about finding a master to learn martial arts so he can become a wandering knight-errant when he grows up!
When Village Chief He was about to say a few more curses...
His wife, Shen Yuxiang, and daughter-in-law, Yu Fangfang, came out from the inner room!
The village chief's wife handed him the things she was holding.
"Old man, look at this! You probably can't even buy this fruit and this fabric in our county town!"
Yu Fangfang picked up He Suisui and then started talking to her.
"Yes! That material is much better than what I saw in the county; it feels incredibly soft. It must have cost a fortune! And those fruits are so big I've never seen anything like them before; they certainly weren't cheap!"
Village Chief He picked up the items and examined them, then made up his mind.
"It's probably something you bought in Zhoucheng along the way. We'll keep an eye on things from now on. Honey, tomorrow you should tell those gossipy women to stop spreading rumors!"
The village chief's wife nodded.
"Alright, I'll go tomorrow. These women are really something, why are they so fixated on a child?"
Yu Fangfang looked at those things, her tone slightly sarcastic.
"They're definitely jealous that she's doing better than them! I heard that her aunt ruined that child's face. She's an orphan and lived with her uncle and aunt since she was little; they must have thought she was easy to bully!"
The village chief's wife took an apple out of her cloth bag and handed it to He Suisui.
"He's a poor child too. How about we play with your older sister more often from now on?"
He Sui Sui hugged the apple and started biting into it: "Good!"
Then his eyes lit up.
"So sweet! The fruit is so sweet!"
The whole family was amused by his expression.
When Qin Ling and the others returned home, Wan Yun and Liu Zheng had already prepared dinner.
After everyone washed their hands, they began to eat their first meal at this home!
After the meal, everyone gathered together to chat. Jingming and the others bowed solemnly to the Qin family.
"I will never forget the care and support I received from all the elders, brothers, and sisters along the way! No matter what the future holds, I will always remember your kindness!"
He choked up as he spokeā¦
The Qin family members were extremely reluctant to see them go, knowing that they would be leaving for the capital the next day.
Although I usually call them abbots, I've always considered them family!
Qinling reached out and touched Jingming's bald head for the first time.
"Good child, from now on, wherever we are is your home. You can come back anytime you want. We will also visit you at the temple. Remember to write often!"
Grandpa!
Jingming knelt down and kowtowed to him.
He kowtowed again to Qin Liang and Liu Zheng, and the others quickly helped him up.
"What's going on? No need for formalities among family!"
The temple keeper and his fellow disciples behind him all knelt down and kowtowed.
The group hurriedly helped them up one by one, and the temple keeper looked at them.
"You deserve this prostration; without you, how could we possibly be alive? Tomorrow we must continue our journey; we look forward to seeing you again!"
The cloth bag team also surrounded them, each with a look of reluctance on their faces.
Qin Yunze started crying as soon as he saw Jingming's junior brother.
"Little brother, can you please not leave? If you leave, I'll be the youngest again! Go back to secular life! Waaah~"
The junior brother couldn't bear to part with him either, and hugged him tightly.
"Brother, don't cry. Although I'm not with you in person, my heart will always be with you. You'll always be my brother!"
Upon hearing this, Qin Yunze cried even harder, and the others were infected by his emotions.
They all hugged the little monks they were playing with and cried!
Passersby outside were utterly astonished.
"What's wrong with the Qin family? Why are they crying so bitterly?"
"I don't know. I heard that many people died when their village was relocated. Perhaps they're just saddened by the thought of their loved ones now that they've settled down!"
"Alas! Throughout history, many people have died in years of famine; in some places, not a single person survives, and the journeys of migration are especially perilous!"
The group chatted for a while, then sighed and left. Those inside, exhausted from crying, went back to their rooms to rest.
Qin Luo summoned Jingming and gave him two large sacks.
"One bag contains food that can be stored, and the other bag contains life-saving pills and weapons. I also put one of the secret weapons I gave Xiaoyu back then inside; my eldest cousin wrote down the instructions and put them in there!"
Then she took out a rattan brand bracelet and put it on his wrist.
"These are the vines that can be used three times. Oh, and I also put some silver ingots inside. Don't forget to have the temple keeper exchange them!"
Jingming was moved to tears again, and Qin Luo took out a wet wipe to clean his face.
"When you leave here tomorrow, you mustn't cry. Don't be humble in the temples of the capital; treat it as a trip. Once the drought is over, we'll return to Chiling Mountain to rebuild Fuhua Temple!"
