Upon hearing this, Yuan Lao first looked at Wu Hua, who was happily eating.
Not hearing Qin Luo's question, they turned their gaze to Qin Luo.
"Child, Grandpa Yuan has a few questions for you. Will you answer them honestly?"
Qin Luo thought to herself: It depends on the question! If it doesn't involve privacy, I'll definitely answer honestly.
He nodded with a serious expression.
"Grandpa Yuan, please ask!"
When Yuan saw her nod, he assumed she had agreed.
“The child calls you ‘brother,’ but he doesn’t mean he’s your elder brother. Which relative’s child is he?”
Qin Luo was prepared and spoke without hesitation.
"It's my uncle's child!"
Are your mother and uncle siblings?
Qin Luo hadn't expected him to ask such detailed questions, and fearing he might investigate the Qin family, she gave a somewhat vague answer.
"Actually, I don't know either. My mother died when I was born! My family said that my mother was an orphan who was rescued by my father, and that's how they got married. Zai Zai only came to my family last year. The person who brought him here said he is my uncle's son!"
Upon hearing this, Elder Yuan frowned deeply. If that were truly the case, even the people he had sent to investigate might not find anything.
After asking the question he wanted to ask, he answered Qin Luo's previous question.
"The reason I wanted to adopt Zai Zai as my grandson is because it said it was already my grandson, and I felt an extra special affection for it. Without realizing it, I started to treat it like my own grandson..."
Qin Luo understood his feelings; Wu Hua was an auspicious beast.
It exudes an auspicious aura, drawing humans to it without them even realizing it.
Seeing the conflicted look on Yuan Lao's face, she offered a few words of comfort.
"It's all fate that brings us together in this world. Although my little one has come into my family, it has never called anyone 'Grandpa.' As you just heard, it only addresses my grandfathers as 'elders'!"
Upon hearing this, the hesitation on Yuan Lao's face immediately disappeared.
"You're right! Fate is no less important than blood ties. You're so open-minded at such a young age, your elders must be extraordinary people!"
Qin Luo never intended to hide anything from him, and openly discussed her family affairs.
"I was born a mentally challenged person, and it was Grandpa You who searched for medicine for me for more than ten years, which allowed me to barely recover during last year's drought. My great-uncle also treated me better than his own grandson, and my uncle and aunt treated me like their own children..."
Old Yuan didn't hear anything after that; he only heard that the idiot had been cured!
He looked at Qin Luo's face and asked the question he had always wanted to ask.
"Child, what is your face?"
Qin Luo gently touched her cheek, then asked a maid to bring a basin of water.
While removing her makeup, she said, "This scar was originally real. It was from a scratch I got during my migration. It healed later, but I thought it looked pretty badass and would save me a lot of trouble, so I drew another one on!"
Old Yuan scrutinized her face. If what she said was true, then this Doctor You was truly terrifying.
It's unbelievable that such a large scar was healed so quickly, without leaving a single trace.
Upon closer inspection, he felt that Wu Hua bore an inexplicable resemblance.
Both of them are exceptionally gifted, yes! Exceptionally gifted; you can tell at a glance that they come from the same lineage.
Mr. Yuan then sighed.
"Alas! I'm getting old, and I've become more and more arrogant. How could such bright and intelligent children like you be my grandchildren!"
Wu Hua, who was originally eating while eavesdropping on their conversation,
Upon hearing this, he walked to Yuan Lao's side, took his hand, and specks of green light fell upon him.
Qin Luo immediately dismissed all the servants.
"You are no longer needed to serve me here, all of you may leave!"
Seeing that Elder Yuan had no objections, the servant bowed and withdrew.
Then, as if falling asleep, Yuan Lao closed his eyes, and the distant memories in his mind became increasingly clear.
That was the scene from thirty-five years ago when he was framed and fled with his son.
That day, the setting sun was like blood, casting long shadows on the desolate ancient road.
He wore a worn-out, slightly blue robe and held a rough wooden stick tightly in his hand.
It serves as both a support while walking and the only weapon when facing unknown dangers.
Her son, who was only seven years old at the time, followed closely beside her, his little face covered in dirt.
His eyes held both fear and a deep attachment to himself.
The son's clothes were tattered, and his little feet wore two shoes of different sizes, making each step seem unsteady and hurried.
His little hands gripped the hem of his clothes tightly, as if afraid he would get lost like his mother.
All around were endless, desolate mountains and wilderness, with the occasional howl of a wild beast breaking the silence and sending a chill down one's spine.
He comforted her softly.
"Don't be afraid, Mo'er! Father will protect you!"
Though spoken softly, the words were filled with an undeniable firmness.
The child nodded as if he understood, his eyes glistening with tears, but he tried hard not to let them fall.
As night fell and the stars twinkled, the two could only rest temporarily at the edge of a dense forest.
He gathered some dry branches and leaves and started a small fire.
He then took out a piece of dry ration from his pocket and carefully broke it in half.
He handed half to the child, while he himself ate the other half slowly and with great care.
"Father, will we find Mother?"
The child asked softly, a hint of anticipation in his voice.
He remained silent for a moment, a complex emotion flashing in his eyes, before finally gently stroking the child's head.
"Yes, Mo'er, as long as we live, we will find your mother one day!"
Night deepened, and the only sounds were the chirping of insects and the rustling of the wind.
Suddenly, a cold wind arose, swirling up the fallen leaves and bringing with it a sense of foreboding.
