Bai Shao was furious upon hearing this.
"What do you know? This is called being a wise man who knows when to yield, waiting for the right opportunity, and planning before acting!"
Then someone else disagreed and retorted.
"You're quite capable, plotting with the bandits before acting. That little brat just said that if they steal the grain, they'll sell people, and the whole city is under the control of the bandits. Who are you plotting with? Are you a member of the imperial army? Can you send troops from across the city to rescue us?"
Bai Shao was speechless after being rebuked, and then she pointed at Qin Luo.
"She knows magic, and she has food. Even if the food is stolen, she can still use it to save people!"
She thought that saying this would inspire agreement, but instead, she was met with even more sarcastic ridicule.
"I have never seen such a shameless person, staring at the food in someone else's pocket and still being so self-righteous!"
"Exactly! Just because someone else has it doesn't mean they have to give it to you! Why should they?"
Bai Shao was so angry she lost her temper and shouted towards the source of the sound.
"Just because I'm her fourth aunt! She has to provide grain to support the entire clan, instead of making my husband lose his life over that little bit of grain!"
The people could hardly believe it when they heard this.
"You, her fourth aunt, ruined her face?"
Bai Shao thought these people were crazy; they kept going off-topic.
"She's a monster, I was just doing my duty to rid the people of a scourge!"
Everyone around burst into laughter.
"If she were a monster, would she stand here letting you curse her? If she were a monster, would she be thinking of saving you and the child in your womb?"
Bai Shao then remembered her belly and immediately started cursing at the maids again.
"Why isn't the doctor here yet? What are you all doing?"
The maids immediately knelt down.
"Madam, the servant has already gone to fetch him and he will be here soon. Please don't be angry anymore!"
Seeing that her complexion was getting worse, Qin Luo stepped forward again.
"Let me take a look for you! For your child's sake..."
Bai Shao glared at her fiercely.
"I'd rather let this child suffocate than ask for your help!"
After saying that, she collapsed to the ground in pain.
Wu Hua wanted to pull Qin Luo away, but then felt sorry for the unborn child.
It was so anxious it kept stamping its feet.
"How could you be so cruel? If you don't love children, then don't bring them into this world, lest you end up like the last one, abandoned and neglected during a famine!"
Bai Shao was stubborn too; even though she was in excruciating pain, she still got up and argued back.
"How could I not care? I left him some food and silver notes!"
Upon hearing this, Wu Hua looked at her with utter disdain.
"The grain was exchanged by Luo Luo, and you took some of it with you. Back then, Qin Yi's family property was at least tens of thousands of taels of silver. You only left Qin Yun Ning four hundred taels of silver notes. He was just a fifteen-year-old child, on the road of fleeing famine. You also disfigured Luo Luo's face. How can you expect him to face the Qin family?"
Those around them were deeply moved, never expecting this woman to be so cruel to her own child.
Bai Shao felt guilty when Qin Yun Ning was mentioned.
She didn't know who Wu Hua was. How could such a young child know these things?
He glared angrily at Wu Hua, and suddenly felt a strange sense of unease.
She stopped arguing and just clutched her stomach and cried.
At this moment, the doctor whom the servant had fetched arrived, and after taking the pulse, he shook his head repeatedly.
"It's no use, this baby is probably lost. Come back to the clinic with me right now and we need to terminate the pregnancy!"
Bai Shao cursed at the doctor in disbelief.
"You quack! You're talking nonsense! I clearly felt my child kicking me!"
The old doctor glared angrily.
"You're a woman, so I won't argue with you, but I advise you to save your energy. You'll need to exert yourself a lot when you give birth to the stillborn!"
Upon hearing this, Bai Shao even reached out to hit the old doctor.
Qin Luo forcefully grabbed her arm and channeled healing power into her body.
She used her supernatural powers to protect the child in her womb, but as soon as Bai Shao felt a little better, she immediately went mad.
She pushed Qin Luo away again, pointed at her, and shouted at the people around her.
"See? She's a monster. She just took my pulse and I felt much better. What else could she be but a monster?"
Everyone around thought she was crazy, arriving at breakneck speed on horseback with a doctor. When Ji Xukai, the owner of Yingyuefang, arrived...
Seeing Bai Shao's erratic state, he felt heartbroken and quickly went forward to pull Qin Luo away.
"Young master, please stay away from my wife. She doesn't seem to like you!"
Turning around, he began to scold the maids.
"Is this how you protect Madam, allowing a strange man to get close to her?"
The maids immediately explained
"Master, please forgive me, this is a young woman, and a female physician at that..."
When Qin Luo saw this man who bore a striking resemblance to Qin Yi, tears instantly welled up in her eyes.
Those around her assumed she had been brought to tears by Ji Xukai's words and angrily turned their gazes towards him.
But when I saw him, I felt like he was glowing green from head to toe.
I wonder if he knows that his wife still has feelings for her former husband.
She even abandoned her teenage son!
Ji Xukai ignored the stares of others and urged the doctor to come forward and examine him quickly.
After taking the pulse, the doctor's expression was quite strange.
"Logically speaking, with so much blood loss, the child should be beyond saving, but the pulse shows no signs of injury!"
"So what should we do now? Is it even possible to move it?"
The doctor took her pulse again before answering.
"Have someone find a carriage to take us to the clinic. The baby in the lady's womb is very stable, and she probably won't give birth anytime soon. However, there is very little amniotic fluid left, so we must give her the labor-inducing medicine as soon as possible. It is the best course of action to deliver the baby to the local area!"
"Okay! Thank you for your help, doctor!"
After thanking him, Ji Xukai immediately ordered someone to find a carriage!
Bai Shao knew that Qin Luo had saved her child, and she understood the circumstances.
