The two stared at each other for a while before Ling Bin waved to him.
"I really don't have the strength to walk over there. Come here quickly so I can see if anything has changed after all these years."
Upon hearing this, Pidan's eyes immediately welled up with tears. He had rehearsed the scene of their meeting countless times in his mind.
There were tears, curses, and even physical violence, but there was no such warm greeting.
He strode up to Ling Bin and hugged him tightly.
"Brother, I'm so sorry, so sorry..."
The tearful apologies brought tears to Ling Bin's eyes as well.
After the two brothers embraced and wept bitterly, Ling Bin finally told him everything that had happened after Madam Ling committed the murder.
It turned out that after he buried the person who died suddenly that day, the prefect accused him of having his mother harm his beloved daughter.
They seized all of the Ling family's shops, fertile fields, and manor; the Ling family mansion was doomed from the start.
However, because so many people died inside, it was called a haunted house by the surrounding residents.
The prefect found the sound unlucky and was genuinely a little uneasy, which is why he was allowed to stay.
Ling Bin had originally planned to wait until next year's spring imperial examination, hoping to pass and redeem himself afterward.
However, they were told that Madam Ling had poisoned dozens of lives.
His examination results and his status as a scholar were revoked, and he was banned from taking the exam for life.
This means he'll never be able to turn his life around and will only waste his life in this haunted house until he dies.
After hearing all this, Pidan felt as if his heart had been torn apart.
He didn't know how to comfort Ling Bin, and felt that he had no right to comfort him at all.
After all, he was the one who caused all this trouble.
Just as the atmosphere was becoming increasingly awkward, Ling Bin suddenly said that he was hungry.
Without saying a word, Pidan went out to pack food for him.
When he returned, he saw Ling Bin sitting at the table waiting for him.
After the two had eaten and drunk their fill, Ling Bin seemed to have regained his energy.
He poured himself and Pidan a cup of tea each.
"The tea is a little cold, but that doesn't matter. We brothers share this cup, and we'll be together no matter where we go in the future."
Without saying much, Pi Dan nodded and drank the tea in one gulp.
Seeing that he had finished his drink, Ling Bin also finished his own glass completely.
Then she took his hand, her eyes filled with relief.
"A family can only be complete if they are together."
Then, he spat a mouthful of blood onto the preserved egg's face.
The preserved egg felt the warmth on its cheek and the metallic sweetness in its throat.
He didn't blame Ling Bin for poisoning him; instead, he smiled with relief.
To Ling Bin's bewilderment, he and another man collapsed to the ground, lifeless.
In reality, Qin Luo and Wu Hua saw the bloodstains flowing from the corner of Pi Dan's mouth.
Startled, she quickly channeled her supernatural abilities and life force into his body.
"Little one, what's going on? Why are you vomiting blood all of a sudden?"
Seeing this, Wu Hua was also completely bewildered.
"Could it be that he was killed during the trial?"
"What? Can he wake up? Or will he become a vegetable?"
As Qin Luo spoke, he kept slapping Pi Dan's little black face.
"It was originally a withered branch, and it has only been alive for a short time, and now it has to go back?"
Seeing that Pidan's little face was swollen, Wu Hua quickly grabbed her hand.
"Grandma, please let him go. He's already coughing up blood. If you keep hitting him like this, he'll lose all his teeth."
Upon hearing this, Qin Luo looked over and then awkwardly cast a healing spell on the preserved egg.
"I'm so excited, so excited..."
Tengteng, who was bringing food to the two of them with her child, couldn't help but marvel at Qin Luo's vigorous spirit despite his advanced age when she saw this scene.
"Big sister, judging from the eldest brother's condition, he can live for at least another fifty years."
As soon as she said that, Tengteng immediately agreed.
"That's right. If it weren't for saving the baby and the domain lord consuming his lifespan, he could probably live for another seventy years without any problem."
The two chatted back and forth, and the little one, after looking at them, started talking to himself.
“Brother, how come Father is so composed? He always manages to hold back his laughter whenever Mother and Aunt are chatting.”
"Who knows? Maybe they just laughed too many times and had enough."
"No, no, no, I think it's because I was punished by my mother after I laughed, so I don't dare to laugh anymore."
"Haha, brother, you're absolutely right. Father is most afraid of Mother."
He was speaking enthusiastically when Maomao and Tengteng each grabbed one of his ears.
"You little brat, talking about your elders behind their backs, you deserve a beating."
"That's right, and I have never punished your father, so don't spread rumors."
Their commotion successfully drew Qin Luo's attention.
"What are you two doing? Mingchang and Qian'an are still young, stop bullying them with your hands."
Wu Hua went straight over and took the little one away.
“Being a mother and aunt is really tough. She pulls the child’s ears every few days. Look, the ears are bigger than when the child was born.”
Tengteng and Maomao were speechless. They used to dislike this child the most, but now they felt incredibly sorry for him.
"Yes, yes, we were wrong, we deserve to die! Please, you two, have your meal first!"
As Mao Mao spoke, he took out the food he was holding and arranged it out.
"Why hasn't Pidan passed the trial yet? He's usually quite smart!"
"Yeah, why is there blood coming from the corner of her mouth? Oh, she's been crying!"
After Tengteng finished speaking, the others quickly looked over and saw that Pidan's tears were sliding down his cheeks, drop by drop.
Then it fell onto the grass and bloomed into small black flowers.
Seeing this, Wu Hua was about to pick the flower to smell its flavor when the little guy ate it in one bite.
