I thought I'd be able to live a good life after coming back, but I never expected I'd still have to go out and work.
Fortunately, he was an optimistic person; his years as a beggar had given him a lot of experience.
"Father, please rest assured, even if I have to beg for food, I will still take care of you."
Qi Guan Guizhang was so moved by his unexpectedly quick agreement that he almost cried.
"Good boy, good boy..."
The father and son were having a tender moment when a sack fell from the sky and landed at their feet.
Then, a second, a third, and more than a dozen sacks fell, scaring the father and son into a hasty retreat.
After throwing the items, Qin Luo transmitted his voice to the two of them.
"No need to be afraid. This is what Heaven entrusted me to give to Qi Guan Hui Ran. It is the reward for his body. Live well from now on and don't worry about him."
After she finished speaking, the father and son climbed out from under the artificial hill and stared blankly at the burlap sacks.
After a long while, Qi Guan Guizhang finally looked at Qi Guan Hui Ran and spoke.
"Good lad, you've made something of yourself. Tell me quickly, what's going on between you and the Heavenly Dao? What did he do to your body?"
Qi Guan returned...
The more I listen to this, the more something seems off. Facing his own father's death ray...
He then recounted his ordeal from beginning to end.
"Oh, I see. I thought... Oh well, let's go see what's in the sack first?"
For some reason, Qi Guan Huiran could detect a hint of disappointment in his father's tone.
Before he could figure out why, he heard Qiguang Guizhang's maniacal laughter.
"Hahaha, we're rich! We're rich! Everyone used to say my son was a good-for-nothing, but now who dares to say that again? Hahahaha~"
Qi Guan walked up to him, looking completely bewildered.
"Father, what are you saying? Didn't you used to say that everyone always praised me for my inner beauty? How come I've become a good-for-nothing now?"
Qi Guan Guizhang completely ignored him, instead kneeling down and bowing with his hands clasped together towards the void.
"Your Majesty, if you ever need Hui Ran's body again in the future, you may use it at any time without hesitation..."
For the first time, Qi Guan felt an urge to curse his father, but when he saw the gold in the sack, he immediately followed his father's example and knelt down beside him.
"Your Majesty, I, Qi Guan Huiran, am willing to serve you faithfully for all eternity, without any regrets."
Qin Luo and Wu Hua completely ignored the two men's declarations of loyalty, instead chatting idly while gazing at the afterglow of the setting sun.
"Little one, will Heaven reimburse us for the gold we gave away? Won't it renege on its promise?"
"No, no, he has plenty of money, and gold and silver are useless to him."
Qin Luo agreed, and changed the subject: "How long are we going to have to wait?"
"At midnight, when the underworld is at its liveliest, we can sneak away to see the Underworld God while it's in chaos, making it less likely for the ghosts to spot us."
"Should we put on some dead person makeup, like painting our faces white or something?"
"No need, I have this."
Qin Luo looked into his small hand and saw that he was clutching a handful of fur. The fluffiness of the fur indicated that it had been forcibly pulled out, and some of the hairs still had follicles attached.
"What are these sparse hairs? When did you pluck them?"
"I grabbed it before it left with the domain lord."
"You're really ruthless with your money!"
Speaking of this, Wu Hua was both angry and somewhat proud.
"It and the white wolf helped Heaven to deal with me. How could I not vent my anger? I'm only being kind by not plucking it all off."
Qin Luo had heard about the two beasts' actions from him, but he didn't blame them, after all, each beast had the right to make its own choices.
"You only took out that one beast? What about the white wolf? Didn't you take out that one?"
After she finished speaking, Wu Hua stretched out her other hand.
Qin Luo looked over and, good heavens, it had twice as much hair as the sparse hair.
"Can...can it really grow back?"
"Whatever, it's not me who's going bald anyway."
"Hehe, okay, then what's the use of its fur?"
"Uh...it seems to make people more just."
"Oh, that's quite good. Keep it; it might be useful to corrupt officials in the future."
"Uh-huh…"
The two chatted until nearly midnight before using their sparse hair to transform themselves into Little White and Little Black.
Then, using the key given by Meng Po, they opened the path to reincarnation.
As soon as the two stepped inside, they found themselves in the small courtyard in front of Meng Po's cave.
Looking at the courtyard filled with withered branches and fallen leaves, Qin Luo finally understood why Meng Po had given him the key.
She took out some flower seeds and fruit tree saplings from her spatial storage and scattered them in various corners of the courtyard. Then, she used her wood-type ability to make them grow rapidly.
In an instant, the once messy courtyard was transformed into a riot of flowers and a forest of fruit trees.
The fragrant aroma of flowers and the sweet scent of fruit attracted the other ghost messengers to come and investigate.
The two then tried to sneak off to the banks of the River of Oblivion, but unfortunately, it was their first time there and they couldn't find their way.
They could only walk along, subtly inquiring like ghosts, but as luck would have it, they bumped into the Ox-Head and Horse-Face demons walking towards them.
"Little White, Little Black, what are you two doing here? Hurry up and get your missions. Your boss just got really angry and said that the number of souls has dropped significantly recently, so he's going to increase your workload."
Upon hearing this, Qin Luo and Wu Hua felt a slight pang of sympathy for their two adopted older brothers, then feigned an anxious expression.
"We were just about to go, but a ghost just told us that the judge wants us to go to the River of Oblivion. We're so worried, which side should we go to first?"
Ox-Head and Horse-Face were also very helpful, and they actually started analyzing things for the two of them.
"Let's go to the River of Oblivion first. The judge never calls for ghosts easily, so he must have something urgent to attend to."
