Chapter 248 Tangtang's Full Moon Celebration

After Yu Chengyuan got dressed, he took the chamber pot to the outhouse to empty it, then took it to the backyard to wash it before putting it back in the outhouse.

I quickly washed up, thinking I was up early enough, but it turned out my parents were already up.

Even the eldest sister and Sister Chunyan got up and came over early in the morning.

The eldest brother was already preparing to harvest the vegetables.

Everyone's face was beaming with joy.

Yu Chengyuan stood under the eaves, stretched, looked at the hazy sky, and thought to himself that today was another good day.

Not far away, wisps of smoke rose from chimneys, presumably as villagers began their busy day.

It was still dark when their courtyard was already brightly lit.

My parents were already busy in the kitchen, because the pig's trotters needed to be stewed first, and the braised pork belly needed to be fried first.

Father, Mother, and my eldest sister are busy.

The head chef will arrive later; he's a rural chef who usually cooks for weddings.

After his mother finished preparing breakfast, she called the two brothers, their eldest sister, and Chunyan to eat.

Because they are going to deliver goods to the county town later.

Breakfast consisted of porridge and noodles, plus a boiled egg for each person.

The four of them quickly finished eating.

Before long, the villagers started arriving one after another, carrying their vegetables.

They also started getting busy.

The villagers knew that they were having a full moon celebration today, so they all made a point of arriving early.

They set off at about seven o'clock.

Before leaving, Yu Chengyuan reminded his parents again to make sure to boil red eggs.

My older brother, older sister, and Chunyan came back first.

Yu Chengyuan drove to pick up his parents-in-law, and Boss Su and Brother Jiang also came over.

Jiang Haitang did not come because her leg was not fully healed and she could not move around freely.

When I got home, as soon as I entered the courtyard, I saw that the yard was filled with tables, about twenty or so.

Luckily, the yard is big enough, otherwise we really wouldn't have been able to fit everything!

The tables and chairs were all borrowed, and the bowls and chopsticks were also borrowed last night, but they haven't been set out yet.

Everything is set out now; the bowls, chopsticks, and fruit plates are all laid out on the table.

There were peanuts, melon seeds, and biscuits.

This is how it's always done when holding a banquet in the village; the tables, chairs, bowls, and chopsticks are all borrowed.

Otherwise, who would have that many at home?

A large shed was set up in the open space on the east side of the courtyard, and men and women were busy inside.

Two makeshift stoves were set up on the ground, with two large pots placed on them.

There were also long wooden planks used for washing and chopping vegetables, with everyone busy and happy.

"Brother Xiao, it's so lively here!"

"I'm so happy," Mr. Su said with a smile.

Jiang Haiyang nodded, "This is the first time I've seen a scene like this, and it seems quite interesting."

"It's great, very lively!"

Liu Jianguo also said with a smile, "It looks like quite a grand affair."

Weng Hong nodded, it seems that her in-laws really valued their granddaughter Tangtang's one-month celebration.

"That's how weddings are in the countryside—lots of people, just for the lively atmosphere."

It's not lunchtime yet, but it'll get crowded soon.

Let's go into the main room now!

Yu Chengyuan led everyone to the main room.

Someone inside called out, "A guest has arrived."

Mr. Li Pu and Uncle Zhao then had firecrackers set off at the door to indicate that a distinguished guest had arrived.

A series of crackling sounds followed.

Liu Sulan was holding her child and chatting with several aunties from the village!

When he saw his parents come in, he quickly called out.

"Mom and Dad...are here."

Yu Chengyuan then introduced Boss Su and Brother Jiang to his wife.

Liu Sulan greeted them with a smile.

Both of them were thinking, "This Xiaoyu guy's wife is really beautiful!"

Su Mingcheng: This brat has a good eye!

Jiang Haiyang: This woman is no less than his sister.

Afterwards, the mother-in-law, Boss Su, and Brother Jiang each placed a red envelope in front of Uncle Zhao.

The name needs to be registered so that it can be used as a return gift later.

Therefore, the red envelopes need to be opened.

Yu Chengyuan initially tried to stop them, but they wouldn't have it and insisted on giving it to him; he couldn't stop them at all.

My mother-in-law gave me a red envelope containing 100 yuan, which is ten ten-yuan bills.

Su Mingcheng gave him fifty, five ten-yuan bills.

Then he took out another red envelope, saying it was from his younger brother, who also said he was too busy to come, and it was a large red envelope of fifty yuan.

Yu Chengyuan refused to give it to him, and Boss Su got angry, so in the end he had no choice but to accept it.

Jiang Haiyang gave him eighty yuan, eight ten-thousand-yuan bills.

Everyone in the room gasped, thinking to themselves, "Giving such a huge red envelope is terrifying!"

They all look like wealthy people.

Then Jiang Haiyang took out another red envelope, saying it was for her sister. Yu Chengyuan stopped her, saying that since the person hadn't come, there was no need to give it.

But Jiang Haiyang wouldn't allow it, saying that if he didn't accept it, his sister would beat him up when he got back.

He then took out a red envelope, saying that his uncle had heard about the matter and asked him to bring it to him.

Jiang Haitang gave him sixty-six yuan, which seemed to symbolize good fortune and smooth sailing.

Brother Jiang's uncle gave him a red envelope containing fifty yuan, which is quite a lot.

They had no choice but to accept it.

Most villagers gave two yuan in red envelopes, the village chief gave five yuan, and my uncle and cousin gave ten yuan each.

Everyone was thinking to themselves that they should try to get along well with the two brothers from the eldest branch of the Yu family in the future.

Yu Chengyuan then invited everyone to sit down and poured them tea.

The father-in-law and mother-in-law had just sat down when they took the candy from the daughter-in-law's arms.
