Chapter 21: Brother Crying

Xin Yiyan's eyes were determined. She looked at Jiang Baichuan and said firmly, "Jiang Baichuan, you may not know the pain in my heart. Those so-called noble things are just constraints to me. All I want is a free life, to pursue the person I love and to live the life I want."

Jiang Baichuan looked at Xin Yiyan, his heart agitated.

Xin Yiyan suddenly smiled and walked up to Jiang Baichuan. Her eyes flashed with a provocative light. The corners of her lips raised slightly and she whispered, "Baichuan, I have a suggestion. Perhaps we can both benefit from it."

Jiang Baichuan frowned slightly and looked at Xin Yiyan in confusion. Her smile made him feel uneasy. He secretly clenched his fists, trying to remain calm, and asked, "What's the proposal?"

Xin Yiyan paused slightly, gently brushed her hair, and said slowly, "Why don't we try to have a marriage where each of us plays our own game and doesn't interfere with each other's lives? What do you think?"

Jiang Baichuan's pupils shrank, and his face suddenly turned ashen. He couldn't believe his ears. The woman he loved so deeply actually made such an absurd suggestion. He looked at Xin Yiyan coldly and said firmly, "No, I absolutely do not agree."

A trace of anger flashed in Xin Yiyan's eyes. She sneered, "Jiang Baichuan, who do you think you are? This suggestion I made will benefit you in every way, so why don't you agree?"

Jiang Baichuan took a deep breath, suppressed his anger, and said seriously, "Because the feelings between us are sincere, I cannot accept this kind of marriage in name only. Moreover, if I agree to your proposal, won't others look down on the reputation of my Yongding Marquis Mansion?"

Hearing this, Xin Yiyan's smile grew even more mocking. "Jiang Baichuan, how precious do you think your so-called feelings are? To me, they're nothing more than shackles that bind us together. As for the reputation of the Yongding Marquisate, that's even less relevant. What I want is freedom, a freedom that no one can restrain."

Jiang Baichuan's eyes were firm, and he said in a resolute tone, "Xin Yiyan, I know you've always longed for freedom, but marriage itself is a responsibility. Since we have chosen this path, we should take responsibility and not give up rashly."

Xin Yiyan's eyes widened and she said angrily, "Jiang Baichuan, are you forcing me? Do you think I will give up my pursuit just because of a few words from you? I tell you, I would rather give up this marriage than give up my freedom."

Jiang Baichuan's expression darkened. He knew Xin Yiyan's temperament; once she made a decision, nothing could change it. He took a deep breath and said in a heavy voice, "If that's the case, let's break off the engagement. I respect your choice."

Xin Yiyan's eyes flashed with surprise. She hadn't expected Jiang Baichuan to agree to break off the engagement. She bit her lip and threatened, "Jiang Baichuan, you have to think it over. If you don't break off the engagement, I'll handle it myself. Don't blame me for being ruthless when the time comes."

Jiang Baichuan's eyes turned cold. He knew Xin Yiyan's methods. If she made up her mind, she would definitely use any means necessary. He sneered, "Do you think I'm afraid of your threats? Fine, I'll break off the engagement, but from now on, we'll go our separate ways and have nothing to do with each other."

A flicker of disappointment flashed across Xin Yiyan's eyes, but she quickly regained her composure. She nodded gently and said, "Okay, that's it."

Jiang Baichuan turned and left, and Xin Yiyan's eyes became more determined.

Xin Yiyan rolled out of bed, her face settling, a look of determination in her eyes. She looked at Qingluan and Junyu beside her and said firmly, "I have a favor to ask of you. I wonder if you're willing to agree to it."

Qingluan and Junyu exchanged a look of surprise. Qingluan frowned slightly and asked softly, "Princess, what can I do for you?"

Xin Yiyan took a deep breath and looked at Junyu firmly: "I want to know, are you willing to support me in breaking off the engagement?"

Jun Yu was stunned, his expression changing slightly. He hadn't expected Xin Yiyan to raise this question at this moment, but he had already made up his mind. He pondered for a moment, then said seriously, "Princess, you know I have no ill will towards Jiang Baichuan, but if breaking off the engagement would benefit you, I am willing to support you."

Xin Yiyan's eyes flashed with gratitude when she heard this. She turned to look at Qingluan: "Qingluan, what about you?"

Qing Luan hesitated for a moment, bit her lower lip, and finally said, "Princess, I am willing to support you. Although Jiang Baichuan is talented, if he is really not suitable for you, why should we force him?"

Xin Yiyan smiled slightly, with a determined light in her eyes.

At Xiaoxiang Tower, the night is deep.

Xin Yiyan sat by the window, looking at the dim lights downstairs, with a thousand thoughts in her mind.

Once the news of the broken engagement spread, it would definitely cause an uproar. But she no longer cared about that. She only wanted to plan for her and Junyu's future.

"Princess, have you really decided?" Qingluan looked at Xin Yiyan worriedly.

Xin Yiyan nodded gently, a hint of determination flashing in her eyes: "Yes, I have decided. After breaking off the engagement, I will leave the Yongding Marquis Mansion and live the life I want."

Jun Yu was silent for a while, then suddenly said, "Princess, have you ever thought about how Jiang Baichuan would react if he knew our true identities?"

Xin Yiyan was stunned. She had never considered this question deeply. After a moment's contemplation, she slowly said, "I'll do my best to avoid letting him know. But if he does find out, I'll just have to adapt to the situation."

Qingluan looked at Xin Yiyan worriedly, "Princess, you must be careful. Jiang Baichuan is not someone you can easily deal with. If he knew our true identities, he would definitely try to deal with us."

Xin Yiyan smiled gently, a hint of determination flashing in her eyes: "I know, but I believe that with you by my side, I will be able to get through this difficult time."

Jun Yu looked at Xin Yi Yan, and a warm feeling welled up in his heart.

Jiang Baichuan, completely drunk, staggered back to the Marquis's residence. The night was deep and silent, with only his stumbling footsteps echoing through the empty courtyard. He staggered all the way to the ancestral hall and pushed open the door. The dim light shone on him, illuminating his tear-stained face.

Inside the ancestral hall, the ancestral tablets were neatly arranged, their expressions solemn. Jiang Baichuan stumbled to the futon, knelt on his knees, and tears fell like rain. He tightly grasped the futon and cried:

"Ancestors, I, Jiang Baichuan, your unworthy descendant, cry out to you! I wanted to treat my fiancée wholeheartedly, but she cheated on me and cheated on me countless times! I tolerated her, endured the pain in my heart, and only hoped to spend my life with her. But she went further and further, even meeting with men in brothels, and more than one or two! I simply cannot endure such humiliation, so I can only return here to tell you my sorrow to the ancestors."

Jiang Baichuan clenched his fists in pain, tears mixed with dirt on his face, making him look even more miserable. He continued crying:

"Ancestor, I know I'm incompetent and can't become the pride of the Marquisate like my elder brother, but I've been working hard to be a qualified son. But what about the princess? She hurts and betrays me time and time again! I'm truly in pain. I don't know what to do to stop enduring this endless torture."
