Chapter 247 Matchmaker

"Sister Lin Xi is so arrogant. She's already controlling my third brother before he even got married?"

A sweet laugh echoed from the woods. The Fourth Prince, holding Jiang Yuyao in his arms, rode out on horseback, his pomegranate-red skirt intertwined with his moon-white brocade robe. The bride, with her golden hairpin tucked into her hair, and a moon-shaped pendant swayed gently as she turned her head, made her look three times more elegant than the other noble ladies present.

Yang Shuyu twisted her handkerchief, secretly resentful. If she had been willing to accept the position of concubine, she would have been the one leaning on the Fourth Prince's arms right now. But the pride of the legitimate daughter got the better of her, and now a concubine's daughter had taken the lead.

"Concubine, be careful with your words." Bai Linxi swung the whip with a cold face, "The Fourth Prince's wife is still recuperating in the tent. Is it your turn to call Third Brother?"

Jiang Yuyao leaned in her husband's arms and smiled softly, her nail-dyed fingertips twirling around the ends of her hair: "Third brother..." The last syllable was drawn out.

"Um."

“Third brother——”

"Um."

"Third brother~"

"Um."

Jiang Yihuan responded swiftly to every word, his sword-like brows and star-like eyes still stern beneath the black iron forehead protector, yet he was completely submissive to his younger sister. Jiang Yuyao glanced provocatively at her elder sister, but saw Jiang Songyi wiping the arrowhead without even raising his eyelids.

[You are so diligent in your response. Even a hound wouldn't be as attentive as you when it comes to meat and bones.]

The warhorse suddenly snorted, and Jiang Yihuan nearly bit his tongue. He realized belatedly that his response was foolish, and a suspicious blush crept into his ears.

"Third brother..." Jiang Yuyao was about to speak, but saw her brother's brows suddenly furrowed.

"Shut up!" Jiang Yihuan pulled the reins and stepped back half a step, his black cloak rustling against the horse. "If you have something to say, just tell me."

Jiang Yuyao was stunned, her eyes instantly reddening. "I just wanted to say that Miss Xue is gentle and charming. If she were to become my sister-in-law..." She glanced at Bai Linxi's sullen face, and the corners of her lips curled up even higher. "She's much better than some fierce women."

"Sister Yuyao!" Xue Xin waved her hands hurriedly, her plain veil wet with the hot air she exhaled. "The general and I are innocent..."

"What nonsense are you doing!" Jiang Yihuan's shout startled the birds. When he saw Xue Xin's frightened expression, he softened his tone and said, "Miss Xue saved my life. Please don't destroy her reputation."

Bai Linxi laughed in anger, pointing his whip at Jiang Yuyao. "What do you, a concubine, know about the saying that a virtuous wife brings fewer troubles to her husband?" The tip of the jade-inlaid whip made a sharp sound in the air. "You should worry about not being kicked out of the mansion by the wife..."

"Bai Linxi!" Jiang Yihuan suddenly shouted, startling several jackdaws from the forest. He crossed his horse in front of his concubine sister, banging the hilt of his sword heavily on the golden buckle of the saddle. "Who allowed you to speak to Yuyao like this?"

Bai Linxi's eyes were red, and her fingertips holding the reins dug deep into her palms: "Am I wrong? She is..." The girl suddenly choked, looking at her fiancé who was defending others, and her throat felt like a ball of wet cotton was stuck.

Jiang Yuyao suddenly cried out and shrank into the arms of the Fourth Prince: "Your Highness, look at them..." She hid her pearl-embroidered shoes under the hem of her husband's robe, like a frightened bird.

"Young General Jiang." The Fourth Prince stroked his concubine's head and spoke with a half-smile, "I heard that the snow fox you captured alive the other day..."

"It's in the cage in the tent." Jiang Yihuan replied stiffly, "If Your Highness wants it, I'll send someone to deliver it later."

Jiang Songyi suddenly sneered.

Everyone turned to look as she slowly and methodically placed an arrow on the bowstring, her deerskin ring rustling against the arrow feathers. A silver bell tinkled as she drew the bow, but the arrowhead remained pointed steadily at Xue Xin's face.

"Jiang Songyi!" Three voices sounded at the same time.

Jiang Yihuan rode his horse to stop them, but saw the arrow graze Xue Xin's ear and, as it pierced the tree trunk behind him, pierced the small green snake seven inches deep. Xue Xin's veil fluttered, revealing a face as pale as paper.

"There are many snakes and insects in the hunting grounds." Jiang Songyi put the bow into her bag, her fingertips brushing the red bell rope, "Miss Xue, please be careful." She turned and walked into the depths of the hunting grounds, and her back with her black hair tied up high quickly disappeared into the woods.

Jiang Yihuan frowned, "Yuyao was just joking, Bai Linxi, why are you taking it so seriously?"

[What kind of joke is this? It's clearly an attempt to sow discord.] [If I said Lin Xi was a good match for someone else, would you be happy?]

Almost at the moment he heard Jiang Songyi's inner voice, three words popped out of Jiang Yihan's mind: Of course not.

He has never been one to think for others, but after putting himself in their shoes, he suddenly felt that Bai Linxi's anger was understandable.

Jiang Songyi coldly watched Bai Linxi's anger towards her brother almost bursting out, then turned around and advised: "Sister Linxi, there are so many good men in the capital, why bother hanging yourself on a crooked tree?"

"Someone wants to use the life-saving grace as an excuse to break the engagement, and that is our mansion in the wrong. Don't worry, I will help you find a husband who is a hundred times better than him!"

Jiang Yihuan's pupils suddenly contracted.

When did he say he wanted to break off the engagement?

This girl actually tried to steal his boyfriend right in front of him?

How could there be a sister in this world who would betray her own brother like this!

Bai Linxi was furious at the moment. Although she couldn't let go of their years of friendship, she glared at Jiang Yihuan and said, "Song Yi is right. Let's go!"

Seeing his brother glaring at him with a gloomy face, Jiang Songyi raised his chin instead: "Today is the Summer Sprout Festival. The White Egret Academy is full of talented people. There are also many children from aristocratic families who are proficient in riding and shooting. There must be a few who are both good-looking and virtuous."

[If you dare to glare at me again, I'll take Lin Xi to Xiaoxiang Pavilion to broaden her horizons!]

Jiang Yihuan's veins bulged on the back of his hand as he gripped the reins. He still vividly remembered the scandal of his second brother being cuckolded by Princess Zi Yan last year, and this girl was actually trying to make him a laughing stock!

"Jiang Songyi!" He rode his horse across from his sister. "You're not even married yet, so why are you being so shameless?"

The rouge horse under his crotch suddenly raised its front hooves. If Jiang Yihuan hadn't reacted quickly, he would have been thrown to the ground by this fiery beast. Jiang Songyi stroked the horse's mane, raised an eyebrow and sneered: "You can have a confidante, but Lin Xi can't have friends? You want to meddle in everything while we're still engaged. Who do you think you are?"
