Chapter 52 Buying a Son

Manager Tao remained calm as he sat down and savored the food.

An idea suddenly popped into my head.

Could we compile this recipe into the restaurant's menu?

If we had these two dishes.

Can Baiweilou even compare to itself?

When the Chen family's stall gradually became deserted.

Shopkeeper Tao: "Who is the person in charge of your business?"

Chen Xian: "Sir, is there something you need?"

Seeing that the other person was dressed in a dark gray silk shirt and had an extraordinary demeanor, he felt that the other person was probably not an ordinary commoner, and that calling him "sir" would definitely not be wrong.

Shopkeeper Tao looked at him quietly. "Brother, I won't beat around the bush with you. I really like the food from your shop. I wonder if you could sell me the recipe?"

Chen Xian: "Excuse me, shopkeeper, you must be in business. Every shop needs to have its own signature dish. This recipe of mine was passed down from my ancestors, and I will pass it on to my descendants. People in the countryside have almost no income except for farming."

Shopkeeper Tao noticed that the other party's expression was calm and neither humble nor arrogant.

Suddenly, it moved.

"Brother, name your price. I really want it. As long as the price is reasonable, I won't haggle."

Estimating the price of this recipe.

A few dozen taels should be enough; if it's over fifty taels, you'll have to haggle.

Chen Xian shook his head.

"Normally, if there's nothing else going on, I'll pack my things and get ready to go home."

Seeing that the man's expression was calm and his face was neither sad nor happy, Manager Tao was unsure whether the man truly did not want to sell or was trying to get a higher price.

He's met many people in business, and he knows that everyone has their own ideas and will betray others. The reason they don't betray others is because the stakes aren't high enough.

He tentatively asked, "Brother, how about fifty taels? You can sell me the recipes for these two dishes. Your business can operate normally, but you can't sell them to anyone else."

Chen Xian remained silent.

Shopkeeper Tao was slightly annoyed.

The other person was dressed in coarse cloth clothes with patches, clearly an ordinary farmer. The two busy young men must be his sons.

His face was tanned dark, and his fingers were rough and cracked. Despite being the body of a young man, he looked like a middle-aged man who had experienced many hardships.

Everything is pointing to one thing.

This family has been suffering from poverty.

He simply couldn't understand it.

He could have easily kept the fifty taels of silver he had in his hands.

They were so ordinary and humble, yet so confident and composed.

What right do they have to be so arrogant?

In his memory.

These ignorant farmers only care about small gains, valuing a single penny more than gold.

Because that's how it is in their world.

Earning even a penny is extremely difficult.

I'm here to try and change your life, so why refuse?

Shopkeeper Tao glanced at the Chen family members and chuckled, "Look at you, your fathers are reluctant to sell the prescription, leaving you to endure the hardships of life. Even I, an outsider, feel sorry for you young people."

It's a very simple attempt to sow discord.

What does family ties matter in the face of enormous profits?

Erzhu watched coldly from the sidelines.

His voice was calm and deep.

"Shopkeeper, why should my father allow others to criticize his actions and explain himself to you?"

Erzhuzi was cleaning the cutting board, holding a greasy, shiny kitchen knife in his hand.

And he pointed the knife at the shopkeeper, seemingly unintentionally.

Shopkeeper Tao was startled; his son was truly a tiger.

Cuihua took a broom and slowly approached Manager Tao.

He smiled and said, "Shopkeeper, could you please lift your foot?"

Each sweep of the broom landed squarely on the shopkeeper's outer robe.

"you!"

Liniang was rinsing the dishes with clean water.

Just then, a basin of dirty water landed at the feet of Shopkeeper Tao.

A hint of apology flashed across her pretty face.

"I'm sorry, I spilled water at your feet."

Shuangshuang picked up a dirty rag from the cutting board, a smile on her face, and an apologetic look in her clear eyes.

I wanted to wipe down Shopkeeper Tao's luxurious silk shirt.

Shopkeeper Tao's expression changed.

"I spent a full ten taels of silver to buy this silk shirt, and you just rubbed your tattered rag on me?"

The two young girls from the Chen family, with their necks stiffened, seemed to be planning to attack with headbutts.

His lips twitched violently.

They were clearly bewildered by the family's behavior.

Who are these people?

Da Zhu stood calmly in front of Manager Tao with a resolute expression and a straight chest. He smiled憨憨地 and said, "Manager, get to the point. My brain isn't working very well, so don't beat around the bush."

Big Pillar was tall and strong, with a bulging chest, exuding an imposing aura just by standing there.

Manager Tao was a respectable man after all; his face flushed slightly, and he flicked his sleeves.

“Chen family, I’ll be waiting for you at Taoranju. Once you change your mind, you can come find me directly. But by then, it won’t be fifty taels anymore.”

“If you transfer your recipe to me, I will carry on your family’s culinary traditions. Isn’t that a way of passing on the spirit of our ancestors?”

Chen Xian said calmly, "Could the manager transfer your restaurant to me? I'd like to take over your business. When did you start making such a blatant attempt to seize something legitimate?"

Those who were originally there to watch the spectacle are now just bystanders.

Some people are talking about it.

"The Chen family is right. They can sell their things if they want, or not if they don't. Why are they threatening us? The shopkeeper may run a big business, but how can he be so petty?"

"Sigh, it seems we can't afford the Chen family's food again. A bowl of food that costs twenty coins would probably cost a hundred or even two hundred coins in a restaurant."
