Han smiled sheepishly, "I can do it without money."
The old lady couldn't bear to look at her daughter-in-law anymore; she was too ashamed.
She scolded, "Water the vegetables in the garden again. I think you're just too idle."
Han was sweating profusely, her face flushed, and her hair stuck to her forehead. She pouted and said, "Mother, what bad intentions could I possibly have? I just wanted to help out since we're all relatives."
You think too badly of me, don't you?
The old lady was too lazy to expose her.
The old man looked somewhat helpless.
Erzhu laughed and said, "Second Aunt, are you really not asking for money to help?"
Han nodded repeatedly, "This wasn't my idea."
Erzhu said with a serious face, "Then I'll trouble you, Auntie, to go up the mountain and collect some more firewood for my family. We need a lot of firewood when we stew meat, is that alright?"
Han smiled awkwardly, thinking that Chen Xian's second son was truly cunning.
They really treat me like a farmhand in their household.
I was suddenly lifted up and didn't know how to answer.
It's not like it's my own home. I'm asking someone to do something, how can I not pay them? That would be being a scoundrel.
The old man chuckled softly and remained silent.
Seeing her predicament, Wang called out, "Sister-in-law, come and wring out the water from the quilt so I can air it out."
Han, looking embarrassed, quickly went over, as if she had been granted a pardon.
Chen Xian: "As the business expands in the future, we may really need everyone's help."
Uncle Chen didn't take it to heart, thinking it was just polite talk.
Chen Xian didn't stand on ceremony, and each member of the Chen family ate a cornbread as they walked.
I've gone home.
On the other side.
Tao, the shopkeeper, still felt a tightness in his chest, so he went to the town's sanitation management official and bribed him.
A gleaming silver ingot was placed on the table.
“Master Ma, that man is too arrogant and doesn’t respect you at all. When he came to set up his stall, he didn’t even visit you right away.”
He was applying eye drops on the side.
Manager Ma chuckled lightly, without even glancing at it.
"Which peddler has offended Manager Tao? Most peddlers are very law-abiding. I don't usually charge them sanitation fees. After all, they clean up very neatly after they finish selling their goods, so there's nothing to complain about."
Shopkeeper Tao thought to himself, "Damn, they have quite the appetite."
He then took out another silver ingot and placed it on the other person's table.
Without trying to hide anything, he said directly, "To tell you the truth, I've taken a liking to their recipe. The old man who bought it is quite greedy and still not satisfied. I can only think of asking Manager Ma to give me some favors and cause him some trouble so that he'll be overwhelmed, and then I'll go and discuss the business."
Manager Ma thought to himself with disdain, "Truly shameless." However, a smirk appeared on his lips. "In this world, it's better if there are more shameless people like this."
I feel even less guilty about accepting money; I call this acting on behalf of Heaven.
Manager Ma remained calm.
"Manager Tao, you're putting me in a difficult position. They're just doing business honestly and lawfully. If I go looking for trouble, won't people scorn me? My reputation is very important."
Shopkeeper Tao then took out another silver ingot and placed it on the table.
Manager Ma glanced at the other person's pocket, his brows furrowing slightly, as if he were about to do something of great compassion.
"What if, what if this merchant is stubborn and goes to the county government, gets someone to write a complaint, and submits it? My position may be small, but it's still a job. You can't let me lose my job, can you?"
Manager Tao's expression changed, and he took out all the silver and placed it on the table.
When Manager Ma saw the other party's empty pockets, he chuckled and said, "Oh dear, we're old friends. Your business, Manager Tao, is my business from now on. You're too kind."
With a flick of his sleeve, a large handful of silver appeared as if by magic.
On the red solid wood table, there was a mark the size of a silver coin, two long, white marks that had long been worn away by the patina.
