The people from Red Leaf Village were walking ahead when someone in the crowd suddenly spoke up.
"Was the person standing next to that pig farm owner the jinx of our village?"
Only then did everyone realize that the young woman who had been silent and standing next to Chen Xian was the one who had been standing there.
Liu Quan asked in confusion, "I didn't notice it until you pointed it out. It's different from before. Before, you always had your head down and looked miserable and pale. This time, your face looks a bit rounder. It seems like you're doing pretty well."
I am filled with emotion; things have changed, and people are no longer the same.
They all turned their gazes toward Su Laosan.
A bald man in the crowd shouted, "Who would have thought this jinx would be so lucky? She married a rich landlord. The house over there must be his too!"
As far as the eye can see, the foundation of a huge mansion is being laid.
He was so jealous that his breathing became heavier.
"I really don't know how that man has such a large fortune. Look at those bricks, look at those piles of tiles that look like mountains."
"Is this farmer planning to build a big brick house with tiled roof?"
"Pah!"
He spat hard on the ground.
Liu Quan scolded, "Boss You, can you stop being so foul-mouthed? What the boss just said was quite good. Once the pig farm business expands, he'll definitely be hiring."
Old Master You chuckled.
He scoffed, "I wouldn't dare mess with any job that involves a jinx. That guy might have his luck drained sooner or later and be finished."
That man, he's got a couple of measly coins and starts showing off, even talking about building a big brick house with tiled roofs. Can a farmer afford that?
"We're all country folk, why are you pretending to be rich?"
"And do you really believe he's just trying to appease us? Are you stupid?"
Su Laosan's face tightened, and he stared at him intently.
He felt uncomfortable talking about his own niece, but he was even more furious when he cursed his niece's husband.
I noticed that my niece's face seemed rounder than before, and she was smiling from time to time, which was completely different from her previous bitter look. If you weren't someone who knew her very well, you would probably find it hard to believe that this was the same person.
Liu Quan glanced at Su Laosan, tried to smooth things over, and laughed heartily.
"You son of a bitch! Boss You, you're a strong and burly guy, good in every way, but unfortunately you have a foul mouth. It's annoying. Shut up!"
"Ha, am I wrong? If I had some money, I would definitely hide it so no one would know, so I wouldn't end up getting a sack of potatoes one day."
You tell me, why doesn't anyone in our village build tiled houses? Earning copper coins isn't that easy. I wonder if the Chen family's money comes from legitimate sources. They're damn stingy!
"What's wrong with hiring us to do more work? I think even if this pig farm is established, it will go bankrupt sooner or later. It's petty and misfortune will bring it down!"
After rambling on for a while, several people from Hongye Village were scolding him.
Tell Liu Quan to stop spouting nonsense. What good will it do you to curse someone else's pig farm if it goes bankrupt?
That's harmful to others and doesn't benefit oneself; what a foul mouth.
Led by Boss You, a few others listened to the jokes, occasionally adding fuel to the fire, wildly speculating that Chen Xian's money came from illegitimate sources, and that he might have made his fortune through petty theft.
"I'll fucking tear your stinking mouth apart!"
Su Laosan seized the opportunity and kicked the other man in the crotch. He was short, while You Laoda was tall and strong. In a head-on fight, Su Laosan would not have the upper hand.
"Awoo!"
A scream rang out.
Everyone felt a sharp pain in their livers and a chill in their genitals.
Su Laosan and You Laoda were locked in a fierce battle.
In the chaos, Su Laosan was kicked.
The thugs surrounding Boss You sneered, "Third Brother Su, you've got guts, haven't you?"
Su Laosan gritted his teeth and said, "You bastards, you're all trash."
Yu Laosan, feeling his genitals being squeezed, gasped and laughed wildly, "Su Laosan, you really are a dog that bites but doesn't bark. Are you feeling sorry for your nephew-in-law?"
Someone realized what was happening and said in a sinister tone, "Heh heh you feel sorry for your niece, but I haven't seen your niece talk to that Chen man and find you a job so you can earn a couple of copper coins to spend?"
Hahaha.
Mocking voices rang out.
This was tantamount to killing someone by breaking their spirit; Su Laosan's face turned bright red.
He stammered and couldn't say a word.
Liu Quan tried to mediate, cursing, "Damn it, we're all from the same village, why are you always saying things that hurt people's feelings?"
Su Laosan clutched his stomach, opened his mouth to retort, his face pale, and struggled to his feet. Liu Quan tried to help him up.
Su Laosan stubbornly waved his hand and said coldly, "I'm fine!"
He spat out a mouthful of bloody saliva.
It fell onto the yellow earth, silent and unsteady, before swaying away.
Liu Quan was speechless. He couldn't believe that Su Laosan, who was usually honest, kind, and afraid of his wife, could be so ruthless when pushed to the limit.
Of course, he was also ruthless to himself; even though he saw that person get kicked in the chest, he didn't utter a single cry of pain.
There wasn't even a groan.
That's ruthless!
The commotion over there was quickly spotted by Li Niang.
He ran over with a worried look on his face, and Chen Xian followed.
Uncle Chen called out a few times in a low voice.
"Tiger's father, Chunxiu's father, Dacheng's father, Dashui, Ershui... all of you come here."
No one knew what had happened over there, but Uncle Chen steadily gathered about twenty men and followed them.
The men, shirtless, each held a brick tucked under their arm, watching the commotion with a nonchalant air.
Upon seeing so many people approaching, Liu Quan quickly explained, "It's nothing, just a small matter."
Liniang looked at her third uncle, who was pale, clutching his stomach, and pretending to be calm, with blood at the corner of his mouth. She questioned him, "Uncle Quan, who hit my third uncle?"
