I glanced at the sky.
Su Yong frowned. "Where have those two kids gone off to? Why aren't they back yet? It's almost dark."
I asked the neighbors and found out that the child had gone hunting in the mountains early in the morning.
Looking at the sky, the lush green mountains seemed to have turned into monsters with their mouths wide open, and I felt a little uneasy.
"How old are you? You're still such a worry. Sigh."
The old father sighed.
Before long, the two arrived at the village entrance.
But then they saw what Su Wenxuan was saying to the villagers.
The advisor chuckled.
“Sir, look how well the young master gets along with the villagers.”
Su Yong narrowed his eyes slightly and curled up the corners of his mouth.
"It's alright..."
The advisor glanced back and felt that Magistrate Su's tone was somewhat boastful.
Su Wenxuan saw several children jumping around at the village entrance, playing a game called "Jumping into the River".
Draw several lines on the ground, and then the child must place both feet precisely on the lines drawn on the ground.
Otherwise, even if they fell into the river, they would drown.
At first, the children kept muttering to themselves.
"Black and white... Black and white, I'm leaving."
In groups of three, palms up or down, if one person is different from the other two, that person can jump first, using maximum strength and jumping power to jump as far as possible.
Those who jump to the finish line early will receive a small paper doll.
The remaining two children played rock-paper-scissors, and whoever won would jump first.
Wenxuan's playful nature was aroused.
At first, the kids were unwilling, but when they saw his height, they realized he was just asking for trouble.
Ignore him.
Su Wenxuan said calmly, "Whether you win or lose, tonight, each of you take a bowl to my house and I'll give each of you at least three pieces of rabbit meat, how about that?"
"But if I win, I'll want your little paper doll too?"
The rabbit looked plump, and after struggling with its decision, it finally couldn't resist the temptation of meat.
The child nodded.
Although Su Wenxuan was the last to jump, he reached the finish line in just a few jumps.
Su Wenxuan reached out and took the paper figure away.
The child named Peanut clung to the branch, reluctant to let go.
Chunxiu, standing nearby, comforted him, "Peanut, don't cheat. We agreed that if you win, you can get a small paper doll. Young Master Wenxuan won, so you should at least give him one."
Peanut pouted, furrowed his brows, and puffed out his cheeks.
"But then she regretted it..."
After saying that.
The little guy burst into tears.
Wenxuan found it somewhat amusing.
He waved his hand and said.
"Fine, fine, I don't need this little paper doll anymore, but what about it?"
He paused deliberately, shook the rabbit in his hand, and said mischievously, "You won't get to eat this meat! Hmm..."
He had a look of pure enjoyment on his face.
He was captivated and took a deep sniff of the air.
"Rabbit meat smells so good!"
It would have been better if we hadn't said anything.
The moment the little guy started drooling, it started flowing.
"Ah, sister, I want to eat rabbit meat too, I really want to eat it, I really want to eat it."
"Then give the paper figure to Young Master Wenxuan."
The child frowned, clinging to his last breath, and said pitifully, "Can I have both?"
Su Wenxuan laughed heartily.
"Kid, you must abide by the spirit of the contract. After all, it took me a whole day to catch this rabbit. You don't want to trade anything with me, and you want to get a meal of meat for free. I can't even get a little paper doll. Is there any justice in this world?"
Wow wow wow.
The child's voice carried far.
Su Yong's gentle expression froze instantly.
The advisor was also somewhat embarrassed.
They happened to witness the young master of the Su family bullying the village children.
Su Yong gritted his teeth, glared fiercely at Wenxuan, and began to shout from a distance.
"Su! Wen! Xuan!"
Su Wenxuan and Su Wenhao were immediately surprised when they heard the familiar voice.
"father!"
The two ran over quickly, and were about to ask him how he got here when a roaring, questioning voice came from behind them.
"Who gave you the audacity to bully even a child?"
"Do you have any sense of shame? Do you have any integrity as a scholar? All those years of studying, has it all gone to waste?"
Wenxuan looked completely bewildered.
What's going on?
Wenhao also began to explain.
"Dad, it's not what you think. It was just a joke with the child. You know, my second brother always likes to play pranks and does whatever comes to mind. It was just a game, and the child lost, so he's a little upset and throwing a tantrum."
Su Yong stared at him intently. "Is that so?"
" Uh-huh."
Su Yong said in a deep voice, "Respect the elderly as you would your own parents, care for the young as you would your own children. Su Wenxuan, I want to ask you, what does this saying mean?"
Wenxuan's face was cold and he stared at his father without saying a word.
Su's father was still angry, and when he saw that Wenxuan was ignoring him, his temper flared up again.
"Wenhao, explain this to him."
"Yes, respecting other people's elders is like respecting your own elders, and loving other people's children is like loving your own children. This comes from Mencius."
"Yes, you all know the reasoning, but Wenxuan, what have you been doing in the village? You're such a grown man, why do you still act like a child?"
Su Wenxuan looked at him quietly.
He turned his head and said, "I already knew the rules of the game beforehand, and I already said that no matter whether they win or lose, they can get a few pieces of meat. I just want to get a little paper doll. I got it through the competition, not by cheating or deceiving. Is there anything wrong with doing this?"
