Chen Xian was naturally happy to have some free time.
Su Liniang, standing nearby, also looked eager to try.
Chen Xian: "I want to learn to cook. There will be opportunities in the future."
Before long, all ten pounds of pork were made into braised pork and sprinkled with wild scallions.
Cuihua felt a great sense of accomplishment, but she kept feeling sorry for him.
This dish uses too much sugar, which is a very precious ingredient.
There's also oil.
In the past, when people cooked, they would just casually scrape the bottom of the pot with pork skin, wishing they could use a piece of fatty meat for a year.
Just a little bit of flavor is enough.
Those hand-pulled noodles made with fatty pork as a topping are so delicious.
Besides, pork tastes great even without oil, let alone nowadays where oil, sugar, and coarse salt are added in large quantities.
They add a handful of chili peppers at a time.
Cuihua was so heartbroken she could hardly breathe.
I'm still not used to cooking this way.
This is such a waste of food.
Chen Xian noticed Cuihua's strange look and chuckled, "We'll probably be going to the fields to do farm work soon. How can we have the energy to work if we don't eat something good?"
The glistening, clear-colored pork emitted an enticing aroma.
The white flour and unleavened dough pancakes are also steamed.
San Niu and Si Niu kept swallowing their saliva.
"It smells so good, Dad!"
Tiger's mother next door said, "Eating like this every day, aren't you afraid you won't be able to keep your pants up?"
Too much oil and fat would overwhelm a person's stomach, so they would only be able to go to the toilet once every fifteen minutes.
Like a man who has been drained dry, if he eats too much rich food like fish, meat, ginseng, and deer antler, he might develop a mouthful of phlegm within a few days.
The body is too weak to tolerate tonics.
Chen Xian instructed, "Second brother, send a bowl of meat to your uncle's house."
He added, "Give me a bowl later, and I'll go to the old village head's house and give him half a bowl. He gave me five eggs."
The news that the Chen family had bought chickens, ducks, and goslings had spread from the east end of the village to the west end.
My uncle's house.
The old lady was busy mending clothes, while the eldest and second daughters-in-law were busy cooking in the kitchen.
Uncle Chen sat on the doorstep, smoking his pipe, seemingly lost in thought.
The old lady muttered, "Sister-in-law Guihua just asked me to borrow a needle. She said that Brother Xian bought more than a dozen chickens and ducklings from town, and also bought a few geese. He really has money to burn. People can't even get enough to eat, and he has to find food for the animals."
The uncle frowned.
"Alright, that's enough, shut up."
The eldest daughter-in-law, Wang, chimed in, "Mother is right. We shouldn't have given them eggs. It seems like Xian-ge's business is doing quite well. He doesn't even send some over to our family to try. He's just showing off all the money he's making."
Chen Dashui shouted.
"Alright, go ahead and cook. Nobody's going to think you're mute."
A short while later, Erzhu came over and said, "Grandpa."
"Oh dear, Erzhuzi is here."
When the old lady saw Erzhu coming over, she felt a pang of heartache. Her eldest daughter-in-law was right; those were ten eggs. They wouldn't even eat them themselves, saving them to exchange for cooking oil at the market. She didn't know how much time it would take to save them.
The old man, on the other hand, just pouted and gave it all away for nothing.
Just as the eldest daughter-in-law was about to say something sarcastic, Uncle Chen glared at her.
He immediately shut his mouth.
Erzhu naturally sensed the strange aura and had no reason to hide or suppress it.
He quickly replied, "My father sent me to deliver meat."
A large, yellow bowl was lifted.
The glistening pork, a brownish-red color, had its juices neatly settled at the bottom of the bowl.
In an instant, the aroma of braised pork filled the entire farmhouse courtyard.
Even the second son of the Chen family, who doesn't usually like to join in the fun, came over and craned his neck to watch.
All around me were the sounds of people swallowing their saliva.
The eldest uncle remained relatively normal, scolding, "Look at you all, so pathetic! Didn't Brother Xian just send you some meat a while ago? Why are you so greedy?"
He quietly swallowed the saliva, little by little, it smelled so good.
Erzhu chuckled: "My tea eggs sold pretty well today, I made a little money, so consider this meat as payment for the eggs."
He then went to the kitchen and poured the meat into the pot.
The uncle called out a few times, "Old woman, get some cornmeal for Erzhuzi."
"No, Grandpa."
With that, the boy ran off as fast as the wind.
The uncle gave the Chen family a stern look and a reprimand.
"See? Xian's family is all good. I won't allow our family to continue to speak ill of Xian. Otherwise, when we cook meat, he won't get any, and he won't even be entitled to drink soup."
The old lady gave an awkward smile.
Several children were playing outside when they heard this and said with a grin, "Grandpa, then I'll gnaw on the bone. The meat on it is chewy, and I like to eat it."
Boss Chen yelled, "Eat my ass!"
Chen Jiabao opened his mouth in an exaggerated manner, "Dad, look, I'm trying to eat it."
Old Master Chen: "If you don't beat them for three days, they'll be climbing on the roof and tearing off the tiles."
The old man's family is having dinner.
Chen Xian chuckled: "Uncle Gui, are you eating?"
Chen Gui asked in confusion, "Is something the matter?"
Chen Xian placed the bowl on the table; it was half a bowl of pork.
All the boys in the family stared wide-eyed, as if afraid the meat would run away.
"It smells so good."
Old lady: Is Brother Xian's business so booming now?
I'm so envious.
Initially, she looked down on these strong, middle-aged men who did nothing all day but lie in bed sleeping. But as she got to know them better...
She found that this person was incredibly generous.
They gave me five eggs, which I thought was a waste, but to my surprise, I got half a bowl of fatty meat in return. It was all fatty meat, and the fragrant aroma of the meat kept wafting into my nostrils.
Saliva was constantly being produced.
This is a good young man; we must not speak ill of him behind his back anymore.
