"You're not talking about... seeds that can grow on stones, are you?" Si Mo waved his hand: "My lord, how can you believe that? It's just a way for them to recruit people."
"Not necessarily," Si Jia said. "Some things are a mix of truth and falsehood, and it's really hard to say."
"You mean..." Si Mo's eyes widened slowly, "There really are such miraculous seeds?"
Si Jia looked towards the door with a wistful gaze: "We'll find out tomorrow."
"I'm afraid they won't let us out," Si Mo sighed.
He just went to check. There were two men in black guarding the door. Judging from their attire, they should be assassins from the Red Mansion.
"Let's take a look first," Si Jia said calmly.
"That's all we can do." Si Mo sighed again. Seeing that Si Jia had nothing more to say, he quickly went out of the room and gathered the other guards together.
"There's something strange about this place. We need to be vigilant at all times and make sure nothing goes wrong."
"Rest assured, leader," the guards said with unwavering determination.
No sooner had he finished giving his instructions than there was a knock at the courtyard gate: "Guests, your meal is ready. Would you like it brought in now?"
Si Mo felt a chill run down his spine. He waved his hand, telling them to find a place to stand, before walking over and opening the door.
At the entrance stood a pretty woman with a beaming smile, followed by a line of servants, each carrying a food box.
They were well-mannered and polite, not at all like robbers, but rather gave the impression of a wealthy family entertaining guests.
Si Mo was stunned for a moment before saying, "Thank you all for your help. Please come in."
Liu Xiaoyu nodded to him before going inside.
Originally, this matter didn't need her involvement, but upon hearing that it was the Ninth Master who had captured some kind of bandit queen for his master, she couldn't sit still.
Don't let him be another smooth-talking bad man.
However, she was stunned as soon as she entered the house.
He was a young man in his early twenties, refined and composed, exuding an air of nobility. When he saw them enter, he merely nodded distantly and then looked away from them, showing no trace of glibness or slickness.
Relieved, Liu Xiaoyu quickly instructed the servants to put the food down and left.
The Ninth Floor Master is really something, always pestering her master to fight. This time she went even further, not only was she badly injured, but her master's arms and shoulders were also bruised. She has to go back and apply medicine to her.
After the door was closed again, Si Mo looked at the sumptuous meal on the table and remained silent for a long time.
“My lord, it seems your guess was correct.”
"In this year's harvest, even our prefectural governor's mansion doesn't eat this well. Look, not only are there all kinds of meat, but there are also fresh vegetables, and not just one kind."
"Isn't this perfect?" Si Jia picked up her chopsticks, took a bite of stir-fried cabbage, and put it in her mouth. It was crisp and refreshing, probably freshly picked.
"Although there were some unexpected twists and turns, we've come to the right place."
Si Mo was startled: "My lord, be careful, it may be poisonous."
How can you eat it without checking it first?
"You all join us." Si Jia's expression didn't change at all as she took another bite: "If the Master of the Red Chamber wanted to kill us, why would he need to use poison?"
Well, Si Mo had to admit that if the Ninth Floor Master really wanted to kill them, one knife would have been enough.
"My lord, do you really think we've come to the right place this time?"
Their trip was to find a way out of the drought. Although their Fengchuan County was not as severely affected as Nanyue County, their wheat harvest had also been severely reduced.
This summer harvest only yielded 30% of the usual amount.
This isn't even enough to pay taxes; how are ordinary people supposed to survive?
"I'm afraid this leader won't be willing to lend a hand."
"Let's see what they have tomorrow. If their seeds are really that good, I'll get them no matter the cost." Si Jia's usually calm face showed a rare serious expression.
I thought it would be difficult to go out and check.
However, the next day, when they said they wanted to go out for a walk, they were not stopped at all. They were simply told, "Don't go outside the resort area."
He just stood there straight, without even trying to follow.
Si Mo: "..."
It's a bit odd.
After walking quite a distance, he finally said, "What do they mean by this? Aren't they afraid we'll see?"
Si Jia was also confused by their actions: "Never mind that for now, let's head towards the fields."
They walked out of the house without any trouble and were immediately overwhelmed by the lush greenery of the fields.
“This, this, this…” Si Mo pointed at the bean sprouts that had already blossomed, unable to speak.
As his personal bodyguard, he often went to the fields with his husband, so he could tell at a glance whether the crops were growing well or not.
"It seems the rumors were true after all." Si Jia led the group to the edge of the field, squatted down to examine the bean seedlings, and touched the soil.
The bean sprouts grew strong and lush, but the soil was dry and not sticky to the touch.
"This leader is indeed extraordinary!"
Just then, an old farmer walked by.
Si Jia thought for a moment, then walked over and asked, "Sorry to bother you, sir. I'd like to ask how long you've been planting these beans? How much water do they need?"
The old man's eyes flickered, and then he started babbling on and on, answering all the questions asked and even those not asked, in great detail.
He had to do what the Ninth Floor Master had instructed him to do.
Si Mo exclaimed in surprise again, but Si Jia looked thoughtful.
After the old man left, he shook his head and smiled: "So that's how it is. This Ninth Master is quite a remarkable person."
Si Mo asked, puzzled, "Young master, what do you mean?"
Si Jia didn't answer him. Instead, she started walking towards the manor: "It's time we met the owner of this place."
