"What are you thinking about?" Luo Xi pinched Liu Xiaoyu's cheek with her thumb and forefinger and pulled hard: "With your excellent massage skills, it would be such a loss to let you go."
"Do I look like the kind of person who would do a losing business? I won't let you leave until your hair turns gray and your teeth fall out."
“So, stop dreaming.” Loxi turned around: “Let’s go to the river.”
Liu Xiaoyu stroked her cheek, which had been pinched red, looked at her master's unrestrained back, and smiled through her tears.
She knew that her master was only saying that to appease her feelings.
After all, with his master's abilities, he could have any kind of maid he wanted, but she...
She's just an impure woman.
If she could truly take care of her master until their hair turned gray, then she would be willing!
It was indeed a river, but the water was pitifully scarce, only a stream as thick as an adult's wrist, and it might dry up soon.
Although Rosie had expected this, she still couldn't help but feel somewhat disappointed.
"It seems we can't count on the river," she sighed.
"Master, shall we stay?" Liu Xiaoyu looked at the beautiful villa with some reluctance.
On the way, her master explained to her that he wasn't going to keep her here, but that if possible, this manor would be their home from now on.
Having a permanent home is definitely a good idea.
“Of course!” Luo Xi walked along the riverbank: “In this chaotic world, it’s pretty much the same no matter where you go, there will be either natural disasters or man-made calamities. Since that’s the case, we might as well stay here.”
"Then, what will we do if there's no water?" Liu Xiaoyu was both happy and worried.
The good news is that we no longer have to wander around, but the bad news is that people can't survive without water.
"Did most of the villages in your hometown have wells?" Luo Xi remembered that when she went to her classmates' hometown, there were wells in the yards, and they were not easy to run dry.
“That’s right.” Liu Xiaoyu slapped her forehead and said with a smile, “How could I forget that? How can there be no well in the village?”
Now, every time she needs water, her master prepares it in advance, and she has almost forgotten about the well.
"Master, shall we go and take a look at the farmhouse over there?" Liu Xiaoyu looked at Luo Xi expectantly. "Also, there must be a well at the villa where we stayed last night. I will definitely look for it carefully later."
Then we can use water later, so we won't have to bother our master every time.
“Yes!” Rose nodded.
Perfect timing! She'll go check if there are any original inhabitants left and ask about the situation at the resort.
After all, such a nice farm can't be ownerless; if it does have an owner...
Luo Xi stroked her chin, her eyes sparkling.
The farmhouses on the mountain are quite simple, all made of rammed earth, but they are arranged in a pleasing and orderly manner. There are trees, vegetable gardens, chicken and duck sheds in the yard, and occasionally a swing is set up in some of them, which is very lifelike.
The well they were looking for was located in the middle of the village, and the water level was just right, enough to last them a long time.
"Master, the people living here must be very happy." Liu Xiaoyu looked around with a smile, as if she had returned to her hometown that she could never go back to.
"Not necessarily." Luo Xi walked toward the courtyard next door with a sullen face.
The yard was very clean, but the chicken coop was open and empty. There were a few chicken feathers scattered outside the coop, as if the chickens had been violently taken away.
The vegetable garden next door was also in a mess, with the vegetables already pulled up, leaving only some scattered leaves and small holes in the ground.
The door to the innermost mud-brick house was tightly closed, and a faint smell of dead rats wafted out from the crack in the door, making people feel nauseous.
"Master..." Liu Xiaoyu covered her nose and looked at Luo Xi in a panic.
Luo Xi didn't look at her, but walked step by step to the door with a sullen face, and pushed the door open with a "creak".
"This, this..." Liu Xiaoyu's outstretched neck froze instantly, her small face turned deathly pale, and her eyes were filled with indescribable fear, but even more so with heartache.
In the center of the main hall, which had been ransacked, sat a dining table. On the table lay a family of seven: two elderly people, a couple, and three children.
They were all lying motionless on the table, each with a deep gash on their neck, beneath which lay congealed blood, indicating they had been killed instantly.
The dishes in the middle of the table were still there, but they had spoiled and turned black, making it impossible to see their original color.
One of the girls had pigtails, and in her slightly open mouth, you could even see food that she hadn't had time to swallow.
And that stench was the smell of corpses emanating from them.
"Master, it was Yang Erlang and his men who did it, right?" Liu Xiaoyu covered her mouth tightly with both hands, tears streaming down her slightly red eyes.
Rosie nodded silently.
"Beasts!" Liu Xiaoyu gritted her teeth in hatred: "Why would they do this? These people are just tenant farmers."
"For the sake of food, isn't it?" Luo Xi squatted down, flicked a few grains of rice that had fallen to the ground with her index finger, clapped her hands, and stood up.
"However, some people kill without needing a reason?"
Rosie had seen many murders in the apocalypse, whether it was because she didn't like someone, because of a single wrong word, or even because she was in a good mood.
"Let's go and see other places."
After searching all the houses, they found no survivors. The tenants had either been killed in their own homes or elsewhere, and their bodies had been thrown into the houses.
Similarly, all the farmhouses were ransacked, with everything from the vegetables in the fields to the food and money inside.
"That's really ruthless." Standing at the edge of the pit, looking at the infant who was only a few months old but had already begun to decompose, a slight emotion finally appeared on Luo Xi's face.
She didn't consider herself a good person, but she really couldn't condone killing babies.
"Master, please wait for me." Liu Xiaoyu walked over with red eyes: "I will... I will bury him and give him a proper burial."
As she spoke, she prepared to pick up the stinking baby, but Rosie grabbed her arm.
"No need for you. Let me have Qinglong bring people to handle this later."
“He is skilled in his work and is also big and strong, so he is suitable for this job.”
Liu Xiaoyu couldn't help but chuckle as she recalled Qinglong, who always wore a blue scholar's robe.
“Master, he doesn’t seem to be that big and burly.”
"I don't care about him!" Loxi strode outside: "The burial and cleanup is his responsibility. You don't need to help. Otherwise, you'll take away his job, and he might not be happy about it."
"Is that so?" Liu Xiaoyu asked, somewhat uncertainly.
Qinglong is quite clean; would he enjoy collecting corpses?
Luo Xi then led Liu Xiaoyu to other tenant villages, but after checking them all, they found that the situation was pretty much the same in almost every village, with no survivors in sight.
"Forget it, let's go back." Luo Xi abandoned her plan to find someone alive to ask about the situation and turned to walk towards the manor.
But then, her eyes shot like sharp swords towards the bushes beside her.
"Who goes there? Show yourself!"
