Chapter 113 Rescuing a Little Baby

“Let’s go over to that alley and take a look,” Zhao Guihua said to Zhou Laoda and Zhao Guizhi.

"What's so interesting?" Old Zhou followed closely beside her.

After the three of them walked to the teahouse across the street, they all paused.

Zhao Guizhi frowned and said, "This alley looks rather eerie. Maybe we shouldn't go in. Sister, what did you see that made you want to come and take a look?"

Zhao Guihua saw nothing and heard nothing. It was her daughter who told her that there was a benefactor in this alley who could save her. Her daughter's words must be true. However, there was a faint smell of blood wafting from the alley. Going in rashly might be dangerous.

"Sister, you stay here and watch over Xingxing and Ruru. My husband and I will go check on them." Zhao Guihua put Xingxing down and let Zhao Guizhi hold the little girl's hand.

Zhao Guizhi's eyelids twitched suddenly, and she grabbed Zhao Guihua's wrist. "Let's go, I'm really panicking."

"Mom and Dad, be careful," Xingxing added.

If Xingxing hadn't spoken, Zhou Laoda and Zhao Guihua wouldn't have been so nervous, but her words immediately made them tense up.

"Just be careful." Xingxing blinked, her expression clearly saying, "Go ahead, there's no great danger, you can handle it."

With their daughter giving such a hint, Zhou Laoda and Zhao Guihua breathed a slight sigh of relief. The latter comforted Zhao Guizhi for a few words before carefully entering the alley with Zhou Laoda.

Reaching the corner of the alley, Old Zhou, axe in hand, cautiously peeked out to see what was happening inside.

"How is it? What's going on?" Zhao Guihua asked in a breathy voice.

Old Zhou replied in a whisper, "It's a dead end. It's surrounded by small buildings on three sides. The light inside is quite dim, so we can't see very clearly. There seems to be a figure at the end of the alley, but we didn't dare to look closely."

"Take another look, and figure out the situation before we can start rescuing them." Zhao Guihua imagined the person in distress to be a noblewoman or a wealthy gentleman.

But when Boss Zhou stuck his head out to investigate again, he discovered that there was a person lying on the ground at the end of the alley. There was only one person, and as a breeze blew, the smell of blood became stronger.

“There was only one person; I didn’t see a second one,” said Boss Zhou.

Zhao Guihua thought for a moment and felt that the person inside must be the important person her daughter had mentioned. She said uncertainly, "Why don't we go over and take a look?"

They always carried self-defense tools when they went out. Old Zhou always had his axe with him, and Zhao Guihua carried a sickle. The couple slowly approached the person lying in the alley.

When they were only five or six meters away from the people on the ground, something suddenly shot towards them, and Boss Zhou instinctively grabbed his axe to block it.

"Clang." There was a crisp sound of metal hitting the ground.

The two looked down and found that there were five darts. If they were hit, they would not survive.

However, the man seemed to be seriously injured, and the dart he threw had little force, which is why Boss Zhou easily blocked it.

Moreover, after throwing five darts, the man no longer had the strength to resist.

Zhou Laoda and Zhao Guihua waited for a long time, but when they saw no movement from the person on the ground, they gradually approached. As soon as they got close, Zhou Laoda put an axe to the person's neck.

"Ah ah, ee-ya ah."

"Where did this baby come from?" Zhao Guihua sensitively heard a few faint cries of a baby.

Realizing something, Zhao Guihua squatted down and pulled aside the black cloak covering the person on the ground. Sure enough, she saw a small baby under the cloak. The child was well protected and lay peacefully in the person's arms.

At this moment, Zhao Guihua almost immediately concluded that the baby was the benefactor her daughter had mentioned, and that the person lying on the ground throwing darts must be the one holding the child hostage. So she quickly picked up the child.

"Hurry up and leave, don't worry about this man." After rescuing the child, Zhao Guihua signaled to Boss Zhou to get out of there quickly.

After running out of the alley, Zhou Laoda and Zhao Guihua were a little confused. They had found a baby, but what should they do with the child?

After learning that there was another bandit holding a baby in the alley, Zhao Guizhi said, "Let's go report to the authorities first and arrest that scoundrel. Otherwise, what if he comes back to take revenge on us?"

"Yes, yes, let's go report it to the authorities right away," Old Zhou echoed repeatedly.

Fifteen minutes later, Boss Zhou led the officers to the alley next to the teahouse. The man was lying unconscious on the spot and had not left. He was arrested just like that.

However, he was carried away by the officials, and Zhou Laoda was relieved after watching the villain enter the government office.

"Whose child is this?" Zhao Guihua was also a little confused when she looked at the chubby little baby in the swaddling clothes. Who were the child's parents?

We can't keep letting them raise this child forever, can we? How can we return him/her?

My daughter said this person is a benefactor, so it's not unreasonable for them to ask for some reward after saving the benefactor, right? Sigh.

“The child is so young, probably no more than eight months old. He doesn’t remember anything and can’t speak. We can only wait until the thug wakes up and then go to the yamen to find out what happened,” Zhao Guizhi said slowly, teasing the child.

“Mom, the baby’s family will be here soon, don’t worry,” Xingxing said confidently.

"I hope so," Zhao Guihua replied absentmindedly.

"This child is so beautiful, is it a boy or a girl?" Zhao Guizhi asked casually.

"We don't know either," Zhao Guihua said, unconcerned. She handed the child to Zhao Guizhi. "You'll know once you help him pee. Oh dear, I'm a little dizzy and want to lie down for a while. This is getting to me every day."

"Then go and get some sleep. I'll wake you up after dinner." Zhao Guizhi took the child and actually started to help the child urinate.

"He's a little boy, why does he always get punched?" Ruru asked curiously.

“He must be hungry. I have some dried meat here. Give it to him.” Xingxing took a piece of dried meat from her small pouch and stuffed it into the baby’s hand.
