Zhao Guizhi couldn't stop her and watched helplessly as Zhao Guihua paid for and bought a silly girl. She held back and didn't say anything more. However, she decided that guards would have to be bought separately, as this silly girl wouldn't do.
But then Xingxing specified two more people, both girls, and they looked disheveled.
Zhao Guizhi was so angry she almost had a heart attack, but her younger sister had lost her mind and insisted on listening to her daughter. Fine, fine, they paid for it themselves, and she, as the older sister, had no say at all.
Looking at the three silly, dirty girls standing beside her, Zhao Guihua said that was enough. She would only take the three of them; she couldn't afford any more, and she wouldn't be able to afford to raise them anyway.
"Alright, don't be angry. We'll definitely need these three girls, so don't worry." Zhao Guihua patted her shoulder, comforting her throughout the journey back.
"What can I do? You're very opinionated, how dare I say anything?" Zhao Guizhi sneered, clearly angry at her sister's stubbornness, her words dripping with sarcasm.
Zhao Guizhi went straight back to the restaurant, instead of going back to the house with Zhou Laoda and Zhao Guihua. She was too angry and didn't want to see her sister and her husband right now; it was too upsetting.
Back at the house, Zhao Guihua took out three sets of old clothes and told the three girls to take a bath. "The kitchen is over here, and there's a well in the yard. Boil water and wash yourselves. Come and eat after you're done. You must be hungry."
"Thank you, Madam." The speaker was the shortest and most clever of the three, with a slightly childlike voice. He looked to be no more than fifteen years old, and was short and thin. I wonder if he could fight?
"Yes." The girl, who was the second tallest, lowered her head, seemingly afraid to look people in the eye. She was so timid, I wonder if she could even fight?
"Hehehe, wash up, wash yourself clean, and then eat." The biggest one is indeed a silly girl, her mind seems to be only a few years old. She looks like a child, like Ru Ru. I wonder if I can even fight someone this silly?
Surely there must be someone who can fight?
Oh well, it's all already bought. There's no point in thinking about it now. My daughter is reliable, after all, and I can't let her down.
Xingxing seemed to know what she was thinking, walked over and patted the back of her hand, comforting her in a mature and old-fashioned way, "Don't worry, Mom, Xingxing is absolutely reliable, all three of them are amazing."
"Really? I'm relieved to hear that," Zhao Guihua said, clutching her chest.
After the three women finished bathing and changed into clean clothes, Zhao Guihua led them to the main hall, where a steamer of buns and three meat dishes were laid out on the table.
The three of them stood awkwardly in front of the table, not daring to start eating. The biggest one, the silly girl, stared at the food with her mouth watering, almost crying from cravings, but she didn't reach out to grab any.
Zhao Guihua was satisfied. Although he wasn't very bright, he was well-behaved and sensible. She said gently, "Eat first, and I'll ask you questions after you've eaten."
"Eat up, and when you're full you'll have to help us fight the bad guys, okay? If you don't eat, you won't have the strength to fight," Xingxing said in her childish voice.
As soon as Xingxing finished speaking, the three of them began to wolf down their food. Before long, they had finished all the food on the table, showing that they all had a good appetite.
After finishing their meal, the three of them were very conscientious. Without Zhao Guihua's prompting, they cleaned up the dishes and took them out to wash. After washing them, they obediently came back in and stood in front of Zhao Guihua, waiting for her instructions.
“What are your names? You can start with yourself,” Zhao Guihua said, pointing to the shortest girl.
The petite girl scratched her head, a little embarrassed, and said, "My name is Amei, I'm sixteen years old. I used to travel around with my master, making a living by performing. But after my master died, I was tricked and kidnapped by villains and sold to a brokerage firm."
The second tallest girl with chubby cheeks said, "My name is Qian, and I'm fifteen years old."
She didn't reveal her background. After she finished speaking, she lowered her head and remained silent. Zhao Guihua didn't press her for details but instead looked at the biggest, simple-minded girl.
"Hehe, my name is Silly Girl, I'm fourteen years old, my grandparents are gone, boohoo." Silly Girl suddenly burst into tears as she spoke, looking up and wailing loudly.
"Hey, alright, alright, stop crying. You can't cry like this, or the neighbors will think something's happened." If someone goes to report it to the authorities, it'll cause a huge uproar.
"Silly girl, don't cry. If you cry, you won't get any food, and you'll go hungry," Xingxing reminded him sweetly, tilting her head.
The silly girl's crying suddenly stopped. No food to eat? Was she going to be locked in a cage and beaten like before?
"Be a good girl. If bad guys come, help fight them and you'll get food every day. Don't let them take you away, or you'll get beaten up and go hungry." Xingxing coaxed the silly girl like a child.
No, silly girls are easier to coax than children.
Silly Girl looked at the stars, paused for a moment as if she understood, raised her sleeve to wipe away her tears and snot, and said slowly and deliberately, "Silly Girl, don't cry, fight the bad guys, and we'll eat."
"Silly girl, you're so good. Here, have some candy." Xingxing waved for her to lower her head, then patted her head.
"Hehe, you're so nice, sister."
Xingxing was taken aback for a moment, then covered her mouth and chuckled, "I'm younger than you, so don't call me 'sister,' just call me Xingxing."
The silly girl was unhappy. She insisted, "There's candy, sister, there's candy, sister."
"If you get candy, you're the boss"—that logic makes perfect sense.
Seeing that the two were getting more and more out of control, Zhao Guihua quickly interrupted, "Alright, you two calm down. Um, your names don't sound very nice. How about we change them?"
After speaking, Zhao Guihua stared at the three of them.
She was worried that they would be unhappy. Although she had heard that the owners could change the names of people who were bought, this was the first time Zhao Guihua had done this.
The silly girl ate candy, looked at the stars and giggled. The other two girls didn't care. They both said they would ask Zhao Guihua to give them names. Their original names were not nice to begin with, so they would change them if they wanted.
