Seeing her like this, the village chief's heart softened, and he felt a little sorry for her. He comforted her, "No, it's nothing. You can stay as long as you want. No one will kick you out. But if you don't remember your name, what should we call you?"
“Honey, look how round she is, with a round face and big, round eyes. Oh, and her little hands have five round dimples. Why don’t we just name her Yuanyuan?” Zhao Xiu thought the name was a perfect match for the little girl.
The village chief paused for a moment, but quickly realized that the child was indeed quite round, and calling him Yuanyuan seemed like a good idea.
"Dad, Mom, let's call her Yuanyuan. None of us are as round as her." The village chief's youngest son stared at the little girl's round face, wondering when he could be as round as her.
The little girl subconsciously raised her hand to touch her face, looking a little worried. Why was the village chief's son staring at her and drooling?
His eyes were like those of someone staring at some delicious food, as if he were about to pounce on her and take a bite.
Thinking of this possibility, the little girl nervously covered her face and said in a childish voice, "I don't want to be called Yuanyuan."
She didn't like it, so the village chief and Zhao Xiu had no choice but to give up. They couldn't force the child. What should they call her?
"She's fair-skinned, so how about Bai Bai? No, she's prettier than a flower, so how about Hua Hua? Or do you want to call her Xiang Xiang?" The village chief's eldest daughter was only ten years old, but she had many ideas.
"Don't take these kinds of things, don't give me any random advice," Zhao Xiu said with a laugh.
"Why not? I was born in autumn, so I'm called Qiuqiu; Erya was born in spring, so she's called Chunchun; and San'er was born in winter, so he's called Dongsheng." There's nothing wrong with that logic.
The little girl blinked her big, round eyes and said, "I was picked up from the mountain, so should I be named Shansheng (meaning 'born from the mountain')?"
That's absolutely unacceptable.
"Pfft." The village chief and his wife couldn't help but burst out laughing.
The village chief said, "I just heard you mention stars, so how about we call you Star?"
Star, the star of good fortune.
That night, Xingxing ate until her tummy was round and full. After letting out a cute burp, Zhao Xiu carried her to take a bath.
While giving Xingxing a bath, Zhao Xiu rubbed her thoroughly. Her chubby little hands and legs were so plump; the whole child was just chubby. Oh my, even her hair was jet black and smooth.
This child shows no signs of being from a poor family; everything about him is precious.
After Xingxing finished bathing, Zhao Xiu boiled two bird eggs and applied them to the bump on her forehead. While massaging Xingxing's forehead, she explained, "The hen at home hasn't laid eggs in a long time, and we don't have any chicken eggs at home, so we can only use these bird eggs to apply to your forehead."
Xingxing nodded like a chick pecking at rice. She was so sleepy that her soft body slid into Zhao Xiu's arms and didn't move.
Hearing the even breathing of the little one in her arms, Zhao Xiu's heart softened even more. She rubbed Xingxing's forehead a couple more times and then handed the two bird eggs to the two little ones.
Then I tiptoed and placed Xingxing on the bed, and covered her with a light blanket.
The two younger ones didn't mind at all; they took the eggs, popped them into their mouths, chewed them a few times, and swallowed them.
"Mom, do you think if I eat this bird egg, which has the scent of stars, I'll become as plump and round as it?" Chun Chun asked expectantly.
This child, does she think it's powder or meat? This egg that's been used to treat a wound might at most taste like sweat, it doesn't have any whitening or fattening effects. I really don't want to discourage her.
At night, dark clouds suddenly loomed over the quiet village, and a bolt of lightning as thick as a pillar struck down swiftly, burning the roof of the village chief's house.
