Yu Ri, after breakfast, Zhao Guihua carried Xingxing on her back and led her five sons up the mountain. Where the mountain path was steep, Xingxing obediently let Zhao Guihua carry her.
In the flatter parts of the mountain path, she struggled to get down and walk on her own. Zhao Guihua couldn't persuade her otherwise, so she had to lead her.
"Let's go over there, there are little yellow flowers there, let's pick them." Xingxing pointed to a spot on the mountain peak.
Zhao Guihua pointed to the mountain peak that was rarely visited by people, because the mountain peak was located by passing through a mass grave that had existed since they settled in Yegou Village. The villagers all felt it was unlucky and did not like to go that way.
“There’s no road over there, so let’s not go.” Zhao Guihua shook her head, clearly disagreeing with going there as well.
"Mom, let's go! I know the way. There are big yellow radishes over there, besides little yellow flowers. Let's go dig up some big radishes!" Xingxing blinked her eyes, very determined. The image in her mind just now indicated that there was no danger there, and it was okay to go.
The four brothers, Chow Tai Fook, Chow Sau Fook, Chow Sau Fook, and Chow Sau Fook, remained silent. They had heard from the adults that there was a mass grave ahead, filled with yin energy, and it was best not to go near it, otherwise they would easily become tainted by unclean things.
Only Zhou Erfu was eager to try, saying, "Mom, let's listen to Xingxing and go pick some yellow flowers and dig up some radishes."
"Shut up, you talk too much," Zhao Guihua said in a low voice.
She was just wondering how to stop Xingxing from picking the little yellow flower, but before she could come up with a solution, Erfu came to interfere again.
Xingxing tugged at Zhao Guihua's sleeve and said in a coquettish voice, "Mom, just trust me this once, nothing will happen, really nothing will happen."
Seeing the little girl's affirmative eyes, and remembering that the child had always been lucky, and now with her soft, sweet voice acting cute, who could resist? Zhao Guihua finally gave in, "Okay, let's go then, but we still have to be careful. Dafu, you guys each take a stick, just in case."
The only wood-chopping knife in the family was in Zhao Guihua's hands. The imperial court strictly controlled ironware, and each household could only have one kitchen knife, one axe, and one wood-chopping knife. Apart from hoes, it was rare for any ironware to be in duplicate.
If the authorities discover that someone has an extra kitchen knife in their home, they will be arrested and imprisoned.
Xingxing was carried on Zhao Guihua's back again, and the two walked at the front. Xingxing pointed the way for her. At first, Zhao Guihua used a machete to chop and hack away, clearing away a clump of low bushes.
After driving for a while, we found that there really was a mountain road ahead, only wide enough for one person at a time. There were some pebbles on the road, and some moss grew on them. We had to be careful when walking, otherwise we would easily slip and fall.
Fortunately, there were no cliffs around, so even if they rolled down the hillside, they would at most land in the mass grave and wouldn't get hurt.
The seven of them walked carefully for a while longer and found that the road ahead was much easier to walk. After about half an hour, they arrived at the mountain peak.
"I didn't expect the mountaintop to be so flat. There are so many little yellow flowers. Do these little yellow flowers have medicinal value like honeysuckle?" Zhao Guihua murmured to herself, and then put the star down.
"Xingxing doesn't know either, but it can be sold for money." Before Xingxing finished speaking, she had already reached out her chubby little hands to pick the little yellow flowers.
Seeing this, others joined in picking flowers. Zhou Erfu picked for a while but became a little distracted. He sidled up to Xingxing and whispered, "Little sister, didn't you say there were big radishes here? Tell your second brother where the big radishes are, I'll go pick one to eat, I'm so thirsty."
Xingxing paused in her flower-picking motion, looked around, and then ran to the bushes on the side, where she bent over and started to rummage through a pile of grass.
Then, pointing to a sapling, he said, "This is it. There's only one. Second brother, don't eat it. This big radish can be sold for money."
Why do we have to sell everything for money?
The outside world is in complete chaos. People can't even leave the village, and there's nothing to sell. Besides, how much are radishes worth? They might as well eat some to quench their thirst.
Zhou Erfu dug and dug with a sharpened stick until he finally dug out the big radish. He was soon dumbfounded. The radish looked dry and resembled a tree root.
"Mother, do you think this radish is edible?" With his mother around, Zhou Erfu was much more obedient, not daring to eat anything indiscriminately, and always asking first.
Zhao Guihua glanced at it casually, but that one glance was enough to make her drop the flowers in her hand. After a long while, she walked over tremblingly, snatched the big radish, and hugged it to her chest.
"My goodness, this isn't just a big radish, it's wild ginseng! It's incredibly valuable!" she exclaimed, her voice trembling slightly.
Xingxing nodded calmly, "Yeah, this big radish is really valuable."
"Let's hurry home, we won't pick these flowers." With wild ginseng, who has the mood to pick those little yellow flowers?
"Mom, no, we have to pick all the little yellow flowers, otherwise we'll have made a wasted trip." Xingxing pouted, looking at Zhao Guihua with a bit of annoyance.
After being given a somewhat aggrieved look by her daughter, Zhao Guihua gradually calmed down. She wrapped the wild ginseng in leaves and placed it at the bottom of the basket. After thinking for a moment, she felt it wasn't safe to put it in the basket, so she took it out, wrapped it in a handkerchief, and put it in her bosom before feeling a little more at ease.
"Yes, let's continue picking flowers. There are still a lot of mushrooms under the maple tree that we should pick as well, and we should also pick all the wild vegetables next to it."
"Mother, is this really wild ginseng? Is it worth five taels of silver?" Seeing her so serious, Zhou Dafu thought that this wild ginseng was probably as valuable as a basket of dried honeysuckle.
"Shh, this is something only we mothers and daughters know about. You absolutely mustn't tell anyone else," Zhao Guihua emphasized cautiously.
"Can't we even tell our father?" Zhou Dafu also became nervous.
