"It's about to rain, honey, why are you running around without even wearing a straw hat?" Zhou Laoda shouted helplessly as he came out of the house upon hearing footsteps.
"We're not children, what's there to worry about?" Zhao Guihua said dismissively.
"They must be back. I think I can hear the sound of stars too." Jingjing stopped chopping sweet potato vines, listened carefully for a moment, and then confirmed it.
Upon hearing this, Boss Zhou couldn't sit still any longer. Forget about the straw hat, he rushed out directly.
"Hmph, hmph." After diligently chopping a bundle of sweet potato vines, Candy sat there for a moment, then suddenly grinned.
"I know, it's Xingxing back! Xingxing, Xingxing Candy misses you so much!" The silly girl almost overturned the chopped sweet potato vines and hurriedly ran outside.
"Let's go greet them too." Xiaoxiao tossed the washed sweet potatoes into the basket and gestured for Jingjing to join her.
When Xiaoxiao and Jingjing reached the courtyard gate, they saw a group of people returning from the mountains looking travel-worn. Tangguo rushed forward with a loud shout and lifted Xingxing up, startling Xingxing into screaming.
In the end, Zhu Lin rescued Xingxing from Tang Guo's grasp. The boy glared at Tang Guo with displeasure, "Quiet down, what if you scare Xingxing by yelling like that?"
"No, Candy didn't." Candy shrank back at the boy's cold gaze, then got angry and stomped her foot, sending dust flying everywhere. She meant that she didn't mean to scare Xingxing; she was happy.
"Alright, alright, I know. Candy didn't mean any harm. She was just too happy. Brother Phosphorus, don't blame her." Xingxing came over, took Candy's hand, and gave her a fruit.
"It was picked from the mountain, it's very juicy and sweet, you should try it."
Candy shoved the fruit into her mouth in one gulp, splattering juice everywhere, which startled Xingxing so much that she quickly jumped a few steps away from her.
"Candy, eat more politely. Take it one bite at a time. Why do you eat it one bite at a time? Fruits have pits. Don't swallow the pits. Spit them out." Xingxing said, both amused and annoyed.
Candy nodded blankly, indicating that she understood, and then chuckled foolishly.
The group returned home in a grand procession. After putting down their baskets, everyone busied themselves getting clothes to take a bath. There were streams in the deep mountains where they could bathe, but it was just a simple wipe-down, nothing like the comfort of taking a hot bath at home.
"Mom, I'm going back to my room to take a bath. Dad has already brought the water to my room. Could you look after Yuanyuan for me? She's very well-behaved."
At first, the little monkey wouldn't let Xingxing catch it, but after the boy grabbed it, it seemed to give up struggling and let anyone hold it. Now the little monkey is very clingy.
