When the Emperor and Empress arrived at Jinyu Palace, Zhu Lin was feeding Ye Ling'er a pill. After a short while, Ye Ling'er's eyelashes trembled and her eyes opened.
Looking at the group of people gathered in the room, Ye Ling'er felt even more confused, her eyes filled with bewilderment. She hadn't yet realized when or where she was.
No matter what, she was just a six-year-old girl. Even if she was precocious and cunning, she would still be afraid and at a loss. She gradually recalled what happened before she fainted. She and Shui Liniang took ginseng soup to Huayun Palace to give to the Empress, intending to poison her.
But before the empress could even take a sip of the ginseng soup, it was smashed by a hidden weapon. Then the candle went out, and she heard a loud crash as something flew up and then fell back down. Then she felt her whole body stiffen and she lost consciousness.
So how long she slept, and what happened afterward, she sensed that the people in front of her were looking at her with hostility, as if they could see through everything.
“Shui Liniang is dead, and Prince Gong’s faction has been completely wiped out. Considering your young age, we can give you a chance, as long as you tell the truth.” Zhu Qiuyu looked down at her and said in a deep voice.
truth?
"Who are you? What are you saying? I don't know you. Father, Mother, what's going on? What happened?" Ye Ling'er struggled to get up from the bed, but Zhu Qiuyu gently pressed her back down with his folding fan.
"You're so young yet so calculating. I've given you a chance, but you don't know how to cherish it." Zhu Qiuyu seemed to be losing patience.
Since the people from Xianwu Island had never played by the rules since they appeared, everyone assumed Zhu Qiuyu was up to something when he uttered those words. The Emperor and Empress spoke up at the same time, "Wait."
Zhu Qiuyu turned his head slightly. He had just made a harsh statement without any real meaning. What was the problem?
“The matter is not yet clear. You say she is a fake princess, but where is the real princess? Shouldn’t we ask her first? Also, there is the couple in that small village who saved her. We need to gather all the witnesses and evidence before we can make a conclusion.”
The Empress ultimately felt sorry for her daughter. At least until now, she still believed that Ye Ling'er was her princess, so she did not want her to be hurt or wronged.
This is the palace, and she is the empress. How did things turn out this way? She wants to protect her daughter, yet she is being controlled by others? For a moment, she felt bewildered, and then, after regaining her senses, she felt angry.
"Your Majesty, please say something," the Empress said, her voice choked with emotion.
A flicker of panic crossed Ye Lingguang's lowered eyes. Her hands, hidden under the covers, clenched tightly. She bit her lip and whispered, "I am the princess. If I'm not the princess, then who is? Why do you say I'm not?"
She doesn't want to lose her current identity, she doesn't want to leave, she loves life here, why can't she be a princess?
Everyone says she looks like an empress, and the birthmark on her back and the mole on the sole of her foot are all evidence. She is a princess, yes, she is a princess.
“You’re not real, you’re an imposter. The real princess has returned, and you should leave.” The boy, who had been silent until now, suddenly spoke up. His voice was calm, and before he finished speaking, he turned and left.
Before long, she led Xingxing in. Xingxing lowered her head slightly and pursed her lips tightly. She had just heard her mother speaking up for that person outside, and she felt a little uncomfortable. Although she knew that the Empress was unaware of the situation and should not blame her, she was still a little angry.
Emperor Taikang and the Empress were immediately shocked when they saw the stars; they looked so alike that it was almost impossible to tell who was who between the two little girls lying on the bed and the one who had just walked in.
Ye Ling'er looked at the child in front of her who looked eight-tenths like her. Her big eyes flashed with panic. She was very scared. She was afraid of losing everything she had briefly possessed. She wanted to cry, shout, and curse God for being unfair.
But she couldn't say anything in the end, only letting out a low growl like a trapped beast. Only now did she realize that everything was over. Shui Liniang was dead, and she still had the poison Shui Liniang had given her. The person who had given her the poison was dead, and she probably wouldn't live for more than a few days.
"Long'er, my Long'er, this is my Long'er." Emperor Taikang stared at the stars for a long time, then took two steps closer to them with a trembling voice.
If you look at the two girls separately, it is indeed difficult to tell them apart, but when you put them together for comparison, you can tell the difference, at least Emperor Taikang can be distinguished.
Xingxing tightly gripped the boy's hand. She was a little nervous, but more than that, she felt wronged. This feeling was very subtle. Before she regained her memories, she didn't care much about the emperor and empress recognizing a fake princess.
After she regained her memory, Xingxing felt vaguely uncomfortable, but she didn't say it. Until just now, when she heard with her own ears that the Empress was protecting the fake princess and didn't want the fake princess to be wronged, Xingxing couldn't help but feel sour.
So when the emperor said that she was the real princess, he clearly recognized her. But Xingxing didn't want to talk. She pursed her lips and refused to look at the emperor, stubbornly looking elsewhere.
There's a saying that goes, "No comparison, no harm." If Xingxing hadn't appeared, the Empress would have firmly believed that Ye Ling'er was her princess. But now, looking at Xingxing and then at Ye Ling'er, the difference becomes apparent.
No matter how similar they look, you can still tell the differences. The two girls give off different vibes. Ye Ling'er always carries a hidden timidity and inferiority complex. The Empress used to think it was because the princess was kidnapped and suffered too much outside.
But when she saw the stars, she realized that things weren't like that. Although her little princess had been away for two years, her pride and confidence hadn't disappeared. She dared to get angry at the emperor, dared to ignore him, and did so with a straight face.
Although the Emperor and Empress both believed that Xingxing was their daughter, they remained rational and insisted on following proper procedures, so they decided to examine the birthmark first.
