Another day passed, and that evening, Xingxing and Zhu Lin's group finally waited for Zhu Qiuyu and Zhu Xichen to return by the swamp.
"It's Senior Brother and Third Senior Brother! They're finally back!" Zhu Qingruo couldn't help but shout out happily.
Wait, they didn't come back on planks, but they stood there upright, and the swamp beneath their feet was moving on its own. Zhu Qingruo looked like she had seen a ghost. When did her two senior brothers learn such a skill, being able to move on their own while standing on the swamp?
"Why didn't Fourth Senior Brother come back with us?" Zhu Lin noticed this first.
Soon Zhu Qiuyu and Zhu Xichen rode the ox onto land. Only then did everyone realize that they had returned on the back of a huge beast. There were actually beasts in the swamp?
Seeing everyone's shocked expressions, Zhu Qiuyu smiled and explained, "This is Da Niu. It brought us back. Fourth Junior Brother still has some things to do and will probably be back in a couple of days."
After Zhu Qiuyu finished speaking, she turned to Da Niu and said, "Da Niu, you can go back now. Thank you for bringing us back."
The bull didn't respond. It turned around and quickly disappeared into the swamp. Only the fresh scent of soil emanated from the spot where it had stopped, proving that it had indeed been there.
Seeing that everyone was still staring at him with surprise, Zhu Qiuyu chuckled and said, "Let's go back to the village first and talk as we walk."
When the group returned to the village chief's house, the story of Fang Yuniang's family had been told, leaving everyone amazed and full of admiration.
"I never expected Fang Yuniang to have such a wonderful encounter, actually receiving help from Da Niu. She is truly an extraordinary woman, surviving alone with her child in such a dangerous place. Later, she even had a daughter-in-law and a grandson. It was her medical skills that helped her. She is truly admirable," Zhu Changge said with deep emotion.
Zhang Xiantao stood aside, unable to get a word in edgewise, and could only nod vigorously in agreement whenever someone said something.
"Grandma Fang must be a very gentle person. I hope her grandson will be well in the future." Xingxing was moved to tears by Fang Yuniang's story. It was so pitiful and touching.
"What a pity! I should have gone into the swamp with them no matter what. That way, I could have seen Grandma Fang and her family, as well as the refugees who were captured and taken away to work on infrastructure projects." Zhang Xiantao shook her head, looking regretful.
“When we got up this morning, we heard from Grandma Fang’s daughter-in-law that Grandma Fang had passed away in the early hours of the morning. Her family stayed with her body until dawn. Zhao Mingyue will not leave the swamp until his grandmother is buried. Fourth Junior Brother will stay and go with him.” Zhu Qiuyu’s tone was somewhat sad.
Grandma Fang was a very kind old woman, but unfortunately, her life was very difficult, and she passed away at a relatively young age, which is very regrettable.
There are many precious medicinal herbs in the forest over the swamp. I estimate that my fourth junior brother will go into the mountains to dig up some herbs to take with him in the next few days.
So the group waited in Chaimu Village for two more days. On the night Zhu Qiuyu and the others returned, another group of refugees came to the village. There were many of them, and as soon as they entered the village, they started throwing stones and smashing doors and houses.
Zhu Lin and his group had no choice but to drive the refugees away. They couldn't control what happened afterward, but they were staying in the village for the next few days because the refugees were too troublesome and noisy. If they didn't drive them away, they wouldn't be able to rest in peace.
"There have been quite a few refugees lately. It's only been a few days, and more refugees have entered the village. There have been refugees before, but not this often. What's going on lately?" Village Chief Mu sighed. His eyelids had been twitching for the past few days, and he felt uneasy, as if something was about to happen.
Actually, it's nothing much. It's just that Zhao Mingyue is leaving the swamp and will no longer go to Chaimu Village to get things. Similarly, she will no longer help them drive away the refugees. If refugees enter the village again, they will have to fight them off on their own, as there will be no one to rely on.
After the funeral was completed on the other side of the swamp, Zhao Mingyue and Zhu Chumo rode away on their ox. Money is needed for everything when you're out and about, but Zhao Shui and Song Zhaodi had no money to give their son.
She could only tell him to take more medicinal herbs and sell them at the pharmacy. As for clothes, he should wear animal skin clothes. Song Zhaodi instructed her son to exchange the herbs for silver and buy some ready-made clothes from the cloth shop.
Zhao Mingyue refused without hesitation, "Mother, I'm used to wearing animal skin clothes and don't like wearing cloth clothes. Don't worry about me, I'll take good care of myself."
He didn't leave alone; he was accompanied by two young men, Dazhuang and Daze. Dazhuang and Daze were both sixteen years old. They had come to the swamp four years ago to start living there. They had lived outside before they were twelve, which is why Song Zhaodi let them follow Zhao Mingyue.
"If Mingyue doesn't understand something while he's out there, you two should remind him, so he won't be tricked without even realizing it." Song Zhaodi only had this one precious son, and she was naturally very reluctant to let him leave.
"Why are you crying? If you want to go out, I'll go with you to see the world when I'm feeling better," Zhao Shui said in a muffled voice.
Song Zhaodi was stunned for a moment, then her heart leaped with joy. "My husband is willing to go out and take a look?"
“I was worried about Mother before, so I didn’t dare to leave. Now I only have you and Mingyue, so naturally I’ll prioritize you both,” Zhao Shui said softly, lowering her eyes.
"Husband, don't be sad. If your mother is watching from heaven, she wouldn't want you to always be so unhappy. Our family must be well." Song Zhaodi leaned against him, feeling very content. Her husband was good, and her mother-in-law and son were good too. She was so grateful that Ah Shui had brought her back.
It takes a day to travel from the swamp forest to the other side. By the time Da Niu delivered Zhu Chumo, Zhao Mingyue, and the others to Chaimu Village, it was already getting dark.
Xingxing and Zhu Lin's group came over to wait after lunch. In the evening, Zhang Xiantao asked the two maids and Li Tianlin to go back and prepare dinner so that they could eat as soon as they returned.
