Chapter 31 A fight broke out

"Village chief, you've come at the right time! Come and see! I've wasted my life raising this son. He won't even let his parents in the door. What an unfilial son! Don't you all think he needs to be taught a lesson?"

Old Zhou dragged the village chief into it, insisting that the latter call out Old Zhou's eldest son, hoping the whole village would criticize him behind his back.

The village chief frowned, subtly pulling away from Old Zhou's hand, and said helplessly, "Uncle Zhou, the eldest son is your own son. He was so badly injured by the refugees before, and he still can't get out of bed. You all didn't come to care about him when he was seriously injured, but now you insist on entering his house. What is your reason?"

The Zhou family was speechless after what the village chief said, so they asked him to come and settle the matter. But the village chief immediately spoke up for Zhou the eldest and asked them why they had come.

Zhou Laosan was quick-witted. He immediately realized that his elder brother was injured while saving the village chief, so it would be strange if the village chief didn't help him. Letting the village chief judge the matter was a mistake.

“Village chief, my elder brother saved your life that day, and we can understand that you are speaking up for him now. But let’s put it another way. Now we’re talking about whether my elder brother is filial or not. Today he wouldn’t even open the door for my parents. Don’t you think he went too far?”

The village chief was annoyed by Zhou Laosan. If he hadn't just happened to run into him, he wouldn't have come over. He knew exactly what Zhou Laosan's family was up to.

Zhao Xiu followed, and she quickly figured out what was going on. Zhou Laosan and his gang must have wanted to steal the cotton that Zhao Guihua had traded for.

After thinking for a moment, he said, "Since no one answered the door after knocking for so long, it means no one is home. Even if your older brother is home, he can't come to open the door. It's getting dark, everyone should go home and make dinner."

Zhou Laosan was not about to let it go so easily. They had waited all afternoon and couldn't let their efforts go to waste. He immediately stopped everyone, saying, "Since you're already here, don't rush off. The matter isn't resolved yet, and we have to resolve it today."

Zhao Xiu sneered and angrily cursed, "Who do you think you are, Zhou Laosan? Blocking us from leaving, do you think everyone is as idle as you, having nothing better to do than sit in front of your elder brother's courtyard all afternoon? We have a lot of things to do at home, we don't have time to mess around with you, so get out of the way."

The others chimed in. They had originally come to watch the excitement, but they weren't exactly free at home. Besides, the village chief's wife was already arguing with Zhou Laosan, so they realized what was going on.

Zhou Laoda saved the village chief's life, and now that Zhou Laoda's family is in trouble, the village chief and his wife have no choice but to help them out. Everyone here is shrewd, and they certainly don't want to offend the village chief, so they'd better not watch this drama unfold.

"Zhou Laosan, this is wrong of you. We want to go back, why are you blocking the road and causing trouble?"

"Do you want to fight or what?"

The villagers all sided with the village chief, and even if Zhou Laosan was a troublemaker, he didn't dare to provoke public anger, so he had to step aside to let everyone leave.

The Zhou family had worked for nothing. The two elders of the Zhou family were furious and embarrassed after seeing that the villagers had all left. The old man kicked the gate of his eldest son's yard in anger and went home cursing.

"Old man, wait for me!" Old Mrs. Zhou hurriedly followed, then turned back and called to her two sons after taking a few steps, "Third and fourth sons, don't wait here either. Your eldest brother is determined not to talk to us today. This is not over. We'll settle accounts with him later."

But the third brother and the fourth brother were not satisfied. They went crazy with their wives and kicked the gate of the Zhou family's courtyard like crazy, as if they would only feel relieved if they kicked the gate down.

"You bastards, I chopped up Zhou Laosan and Zhou Laosi, I've had enough!" Zhao Guihua angrily threw the needles, thread and clothes into the basket, turned around and grabbed an axe to start a fight.

"Mother, don't be impulsive. Murder is punishable by death. Let's think of another way." Zhou Dafu and Zhou Sanfu quickly stopped her.

Zhao Guihua struggled a few times, and this time she didn't bother to lower her voice. She shouted, "Don't stop me! I'll fight them to the death today. Let's settle this once and for all. At worst, we'll all die together. This will save these parasites from coming to cause trouble every few days. I'll chop them up first, and then I'll kill myself."

Outside the door, Zhou Laosan and his three companions heard Zhao Guihua's voice and kicked the door even harder, especially Zhou Laosan, who cursed loudly as he kicked.

"Knowing that my elder brother and sister-in-law were home, I deliberately didn't open the door. Now you've finally lost your temper, haven't you? Kick it hard!"

Inside the courtyard, Xingxing saw that her five brothers could barely hold their mother back. Her mother's expression was so gloomy, as if she really wanted to kill those people outside. But if her mother killed someone, something bad would happen to her too.

Xingxing ran into the kitchen, came out from the kitchen with a basket of ashes, walked up to Zhao Guihua, and handed the basket to her.

“Mom, there’s a lot of dust here. Sprinkle it into those people’s eyes, and then we’ll beat them up together. We won’t chop them up, because murderers pay with their lives. Xingxing doesn’t want Mom to pay for their lives.”

After being persuaded by her little girl's sweet, childlike voice, Zhao Guihua finally calmed down, threw the axe into the corner, and picked up a thick wooden stick instead.

"They're lucky to be alive. We'll let them go today, but we can't let them get away with it." Zhao Guihua, holding a dustpan, stormed towards the door.

As soon as the door opened, the four people outside were thrown back inside due to inertia. Zhao Guihua took the opportunity to sprinkle wood ash into their eyes.

"Hey, sister-in-law, are you crazy? Why are you throwing dust in our eyes?" Zhang Cui tried to get up, but her eyes were covered in dust and she couldn't open them, so she started cursing.

Zhao Guihua picked up a wooden stick and started hitting the four men, specifically targeting the fleshy parts of their bodies. This way, she could hurt them without causing serious injury, and the marks wouldn't be visible.

Having vented her anger, Zhao Guihua didn't want to get into any more trouble, so she called her five sons over to help, "Dafu, come here quickly, let's get these four out of here together."
