"Mother, when Fourth Uncle and the others left, they said they wanted to settle accounts with us, saying that you injured them. What should we do?" Zhou Dafu was a little worried. After all, Third Uncle and Fourth Uncle were both too shameless. If they came to make trouble again, it would be difficult to deal with them. He couldn't just keep the door closed and not see them every time.
Zhao Guihua smiled and said, "Don't be afraid, I know what I'm doing. They can't find any evidence to say I hit them. Who saw it? Nobody saw it. Their own words don't count."
Before the family split up, she was quite familiar with the Zhou family and knew a lot about them. So when she attacked earlier, she specifically targeted the old wounds and didn't dare to use too much force. However, she was able to cause the old wounds of Zhou Laosan and the others to flare up, but without leaving any visible scars.
Speaking of all this, we have to thank Zhao Guihua's eldest sister, Zhao Guizhi. Having worked as a maid in a wealthy household for a long time, Zhao Guizhi knew a lot about the secrets of the inner quarters. Whenever she had time to go home, she would tell her younger sister about it, so that she could broaden her horizons.
The reason for this was to prevent Zhao Guihua from being mistreated by her husband's family after marriage. Learning some tricks would prevent her from suffering too much. However, since Zhao Guihua married into a farming family, she wouldn't need any scheming or tricks.
The arguments and fights over things were all overt, but when I hit someone just now, I used some underhanded tactics.
"Mom, were you hurt just now? Did Zhou Laosi kick you?" Xingxing looked up at her with a cute and innocent expression.
This child is so observant. Just now, Zhou Laosi was kicking and punching her wildly, and she almost kicked him, but she managed to dodge it. I didn't expect Xingxing to see it. "It's okay, Mom is fine. How can we let that scoundrel Zhou Laosi get away with it?"
On the Zhou family's side, Zhou Laosan had already woken up and changed into clean clothes. He, Cui and her husband, as well as Zhou Laosi and his wife, carefully examined the wounds on their bodies and found that there were only light bruises and no other wounds.
But they were in a lot of pain.
Zhou Laosan said with a sinister look in his eyes, "Sister-in-law is really good at this. She made our old wounds hurt again, but we can't see a single scar. This makes us feel powerless to cause trouble for her again."
Old Zhou sneered, “She’s harmed us so much, we’ll find a chance to ambush her and beat her up. She suffered a lot when we were fleeing, and she still has old injuries on her waist and back. We’ll let her taste the pain of those old injuries flaring up.”
“That’s right, doesn’t Zhao Guihua often go up the mountain to pick flowers? Let’s go up the mountain and ambush her, let her know what we’re capable of.” Zhang Cui gritted her teeth, no longer calling her sister-in-law, and directly cursing her by her full name.
That night, Xingxing slept restlessly, constantly having dreams. In her dream, two men in black were running through the forest, one of them carrying a little girl in his arms…
The dream was bizarre and chaotic. Xingxing gasped for breath before being startled awake. She opened her eyes wide and looked around blankly. In the darkness, she vaguely recognized that she was in her own room.
His wildly pounding heart gradually calmed down. He tried to recall the dream he had just had, but found that he couldn't remember anything. He couldn't help but sigh in a very mature and worldly manner.
This wasn't the first time she'd had such bizarre dreams; it happened every ten days or so. She was somewhat numb to it. In the past, she would fall back asleep quickly after waking up, but tonight she just couldn't fall asleep.
Xingxing sat up and looked towards the west, where it seemed to be the village entrance. She gazed quietly through the night, when suddenly a blinding light flashed in her eyes, as if the sea of fire was about to engulf the entire village in flames.
"Ah, there's a fire!" Xingxing shouted instinctively.
After she finished shouting, she realized that the firelight had completely disappeared, as if the scene just now was just her imagination. She was stunned for a moment.
"Xingxing, Xingxing, what's wrong? What happened? Don't be afraid, Mom is here." Zhao Guihua was a light sleeper, and she heard Xingxing calling her as soon as she heard it. She then put on her clothes and came over.
Xingxing calmed herself down, then suddenly remembered something. She immediately jumped out of bed and rushed to open the door without even putting on her shoes. "Mom, something terrible has happened! The thorn wall at the village entrance has been set on fire by refugees using dry grass."
"What?" Zhao Guihua exclaimed in surprise, "Are you serious?"
Xingxing nodded solemnly, "It's true, Xingxing didn't lie. I saw it, lots of fires, and lots of refugees outside the fires. They want to come in and steal our rice from the paddy fields."
The rice will be ready for harvest in about ten days. The refugees arrived early and started their operation in the middle of the night, making it easy for them to succeed.
Zhao Guihua had long been aware of Xingxing's ability to foresee the future, so she had no doubts and quickly believed her words.
She had to go and inform the village chief and other villagers immediately. She couldn't let the refugees succeed. There had been lookouts recently, but they inevitably became complacent over time. In the middle of the night, the lookouts were probably fast asleep.
Furthermore, who would have thought that refugees would come up with such a vicious method as burning thorns? Once the fire is lit, it can burn not only the thorns, but also all the trees on the mountain. This is no joke.
"Dafu, Erfu, Sanfu, Sifu, Wufu, get up quickly! Something's happened! Get dressed immediately, grab the wooden bucket and basin, and go to the village entrance with your mother."
After shouting, Zhao Guihua carried Xingxing to her room. At this time, Zhou Laoda had already woken up and was looking at her in a daze. "What happened?"
“There are refugees burning the thorn wall at the village entrance, we have to go put out the fire,” Zhao Guihua said without time to explain further. “We need to fetch water to put out the fire. Xingxing is in your care, you have to take good care of her.”
Zhou Laoda struggled to get up, "Such a big thing, I'll go too."
"Where are you going? Your leg is still lame, so don't cause us any trouble. Keep an eye on our daughter and make sure nothing happens to her." Zhao Guihua pressed him down impatiently.
Xingxing blinked nervously, then said, "Mom, give Xingxing the kitchen knife. Xingxing wants to protect Dad."
Zhao Guihua wanted to say, "You're just a little kid, don't worry about this. No matter how badly your father is injured, you don't need to take the danger for him." But seeing how serious the little girl was, she swallowed her words.
