Zhu Lin's lips twitched, and she looked up at the stars. "The lucky one is not me, but your princess. If it weren't for your princess stepping forward, we wouldn't have gotten involved in these state affairs."
Luo Ling suddenly realized, and his gaze towards the stars held a deeper meaning. "Years ago, when the princess was born, I was far away at the border when I heard rumors in the capital that auspicious omens appeared at her birth. Indeed, the Great Jin Dynasty was peaceful for several years after her birth, but unfortunately, two years ago..."
He didn't continue. Two years ago, the princess was kidnapped and her fate was unknown, as all the ministers knew. Now that the princess has returned, she is busy with disaster relief in various places and has also sent mixed grain pills to the soldiers on the border. She is indeed a kind and benevolent person who cares about the world.
The three chatted for a while longer before Xingxing and Zhulin left Luo Ling's yurt.
"Brother Phosphorus, when can we leave?" Xingxing whispered.
"It will be fine tomorrow. The Great Silver Kingdom will probably be in chaos for a while. Wanyan Xiong is dead. He had ten sons, none of whom are easy to deal with. The throne of the Great Silver Kingdom will keep these ten princes fighting to the death. They won't have the energy to invade the border of our Great Jin for the time being." Zhu Lin seemed to know a lot about the situation in the Great Silver Kingdom.
Zhu Lin and Xingxing stayed at the camp for one night, and the next day they asked to leave. The conditions at the border were harsh, and everyone there was a rough bunch with no one to serve the two young masters, so Luo Ling did not try to stop them.
On their return journey, Zhu Lin and Xingxing had the giant eagle carry them back. Sitting on its back, the giant eagle circled once in the sky, and then, at the boy's signal, headed west.
"Would you like to see the vast grasslands?" the boy asked in a gentle voice.
"Should we go now?" Xingxing shook her little head excitedly.
“Yes, let’s go now, and bring some meat back with us.” Zhu Lin curled her lips, her smile aloof and detached.
About 15 minutes later, the giant eagle suddenly swooped down. Xingxing cried out in surprise, but the boy held her tightly, and she stopped screaming.
After the giant eagle swooped down, it seemed to have grabbed something. When it took off again, it was clearly slowed down by something, and it did not fly as high or as freely as before.
Xingxing curiously peeked out and saw that the eagle seemed to have two sheep hanging from its talons and another one in its beak. It was quite something! Luckily, it only had two legs and one beak, otherwise it could have caught all the sheep at once.
Meanwhile, the herders on the grassland cursed loudly in their language and tried to shoot down the giant eagle with their bows, but even a Herculean figure like Luo Ling could not hit it, so these herders' efforts were in vain.
"Are these sheep being raised by someone?" Xingxing asked the boy loudly. There was no way the wind was too strong and the giant eagle was flying too fast, so the boy couldn't hear her unless she spoke loudly.
"Yes, it was raised by the people of the Great Silver Kingdom. They raise not only sheep but also cattle and horses. It's a pity that the giant eagle only has two claws, otherwise it could have another cow or horse." The boy said with a hint of regret.
"Can the eagle carry that load?"
"Of course we can, we'll just fly a little lower." Before Zhu Lin could finish speaking, they saw several half-human-sized Xiong Ba fiercely attacking them from the front.
"Why are there suddenly three eagles? Do they want to fight with Eagle Eagle?" Xingxing was a little nervous. If a fight broke out, she wondered if Eagle Eagle would accidentally throw her and Brother Lin off the sky.
"Don't be afraid, I can handle these beasts, they can't hurt us." Zhu Lin comforted her and told her to hurry.
The giant eagle's beak and two claws were gripping something, leaving it without hands to fight. Zhu Lin had to step in. The boy stood up abruptly. Despite the strong winds at high altitude, he stood steadily on the eagle's back, a sword in his hand.
When the three eagles launched their attack, he swung his sword, wounding one of the eagles with his first strike. The wounded eagle let out a shrill cry and plummeted to the ground.
But two eagles reacted quickly and dodged the attack. One of them circled behind the giant eagle, attempting to ambush its rear end.
The giant eagle was very alert and seemed to sense something. It flapped its two giant wings and swiftly darted forward to dodge the attack. At this moment, Zhu Lin swung his sword and killed another eagle.
The last eagle realized the situation was bad and turned to flee, but the boy coldly curled his lips and didn't give the fleeing eagle a chance to live. After killing the last eagle, he originally wanted to pick it up and take it back to eat.
However, considering the feelings of the giant eagle, they decided against it. It wouldn't be appropriate to eat eagle meat in front of the giant eagle; they had to save face for the giant eagle.
They encountered no further danger and returned to Xiaoxiyan smoothly, landing in the same open area as before. Zhu Qiuyu and the others heard the eagle's cry and rushed over.
Then everyone saw what was happening before their eyes: a white-clad youth with an ethereal aura was tug-of-war with a fierce giant eagle, one foot on a fat sheep and the other holding a sheep in each hand.
Xingxing watched for a long time, and seeing that neither the man nor the eagle was willing to compromise, she sighed and said, "Brother Phosphorus, the eagle has had a hard time too. It was the one that caught this sheep. Why don't we give one to it?"
Zhu Lin refused, a rare hint of childishness appearing on his cool and handsome face, typical of a twelve-year-old boy. "This guy flies extremely fast and is incredibly good at catching sheep. It will only take him half an hour to return to the grassland from here. If it wants to eat sheep, it can simply go back and catch a few more. Why does it insist on competing with us for these three?"
Giant Eagle: Listen to this! It caught all three sheep, so how did it end up fighting with him?
Who's fighting whom here? Have some shame!
In the end, the giant eagle couldn't overpower the white-clad youth and was even kicked by him. It could only angrily return to the grassland to catch the sheep it wanted to eat.
"Eagle, don't be angry. You, Eagle, are magnanimous and shouldn't hold a grudge against Brother Phosphorus. We rarely get to eat mutton, so please forgive him this time. Be careful on the grasslands, catch a few fat sheep and eat your fill before you go back. We'll come to see you again when we return to Yegou Village." Star waved vigorously and shouted in the direction where the giant eagle had turned into a black dot.
