As Xingxing was about to enter the secret room with Zhu Lin's hand, the Buddha statue door opened, revealing a staircase leading to the basement. The two had just climbed one step when they suddenly saw their two senior brothers appear before them.
"Senior Brother, Third Senior Brother, you're all here too! Let's go on an adventure together!" Xingxing beckoned with her finger, urging him on.
The two senior brothers twitched their lips. Xingxing's actions were like those of a little thief, which was quite inconsistent with her noble status.
Xingxing noticed the fleeting look of disdain in their eyes and frowned. She whispered accusations, "Ugh, you two senior brothers are probably talking badly about me again."
The two senior brothers quickly clarified, refuting in a similarly breathy tone, "No, you're overthinking it."
Hmph, I won't stoop to their level. I'll go down to the secret room and take a look first.
Zhu Lin reached out and grabbed Xingxing by the back of her collar, pulling her back to walk behind him. This little girl was too bold, daring to walk in front of him. If there were traps or hidden weapons in the secret room, without his protection, she would be riddled with bullets.
The two senior brothers behind them were also thinking to themselves that their junior brother was getting more and more arrogant. He actually dared to take the princess into the secret room at night without informing everyone beforehand. Wasn't he afraid that the secret room was full of traps and hidden weapons that might injure them?
The room below was dark and gloomy, without a single ray of light. Xingxing took out a luminous pearl from the small cloth bag to provide illumination.
Zhu Lin was very cautious. He first used a few hidden weapons to scout ahead, and only dared to continue down the stairs when there was nothing unusual ahead. The stairs were quite long, and it took him more than 15 minutes to reach the underground secret room.
The group paused. The underground chamber seemed to be only about five square meters in size. Inside, there was a bed covered with dry grass, and two men were lying on it, sleeping back to back.
There was a burlap sack next to the bed, which seemed to contain a bag of grain. There wasn't even a table or chair in the room, just a simple, old wooden bed.
There was a pile of something in the corner of the secret room. Xingxing raised the luminous pearl to shine it on, and was so frightened that she almost screamed. Zhu Lin quickly pulled her into his arms, and Xingxing calmed down in no time.
There's nothing to be afraid of; it's just a pile of bones. She's been to so many places in the past few years and has seen countless dead people and skeletons. It's not enough to frighten her. She was just caught off guard and that's why she was startled.
The pile of bones in the secret room only made it seem more eerie and mysterious.
"They're sleeping so soundly. If we wanted to rob them, they wouldn't even know how they died." Xingxing pointed speechlessly at the two people still fast asleep on the bed.
At this moment, Zhu Lin and the other two also relaxed their expressions slightly. It seemed that there were no more traps or hidden weapons in this secret room, or if there were, they would have been destroyed long ago. The pile of white bones in the corner must have been the unlucky guy who first discovered the secret room and entered, triggering the hidden weapons and mechanisms in the secret room, and thus losing his life here.
Zhu Xichen stepped forward and woke the two men up, saying, "Brothers, wake up quickly."
The two were sleeping like logs and didn't react. Zhu Xichen frowned and spoke again, "The grain in the sack has been stolen."
The person sleeping on the outside mumbled something, still dreaming, showing no signs of waking up. The person sleeping on the inside, however, seemed to jerk, then sat up in shock, as if on the verge of death, shouting, "Who? Who stole my food?"
After he saw the four people who had suddenly appeared in the secret room, a scream suddenly rang out.
"Ahhh, who are you? How did you get in? Help! You're stealing our food! You're killing us!" As soon as the person spoke, everyone recognized that she was a woman, and upon closer inspection, they realized she was a young girl.
"What's wrong? What happened? Who? Who's trying to steal the food?" The person sleeping on the outside finally reacted, sitting up abruptly and instinctively shielding the little girl behind him with his arms outstretched in a protective gesture.
With such a slow reaction, it would be a miracle if he could protect them if they truly harbored ill intentions.
"Ajarn, what should we do? Can you beat all four of them?" The little girl anxiously clung to the shoulder of the man named Ajarn. Her gaze swept over Xingxing, and a hint of joy appeared on her face. She pointed at Xingxing and said, "I can take care of this little one. You deal with the three of them, and I'll handle this one."
Xingxing: "?" How dare he look down on her.
"Don't underestimate me. I know some martial arts. You might not be able to beat me." Even if she could, she wasn't afraid. Brother Lin wouldn't let her get hurt. If the two of them attacked together, Brother Lin could take them down with one hand.
"Ah, she knows kung fu. Ajarn, I can't help you anymore. You're the only one who can help me." The girl immediately backed down.
Xingxing: "?" This person's expression changes so quickly.
Zhu Qiuyu found it amusing. He had confirmed that neither of them knew kung fu and they were not to be feared at all. Moreover, the two of them were both incredibly timid and unreliable.
“We’re not bad people. We were just passing through and happened to see this dilapidated temple, so we came in to ask for lodging. It seems you’re also looking for lodging here. How did you discover this secret room?”
The two men scrutinized the four for a while, and as if to confirm that they meant no harm, their straight backs immediately slumped. However, the boy quickly got off the bed and sat down on the sack to prevent the food from being stolen.
"I'm asking you a question, why aren't you talking?" Xingxing urged them immediately when she saw them pretending to be dead.
The girl said reluctantly, "We'll find it the same way you did."
"It's not the same at all. The way you found it is definitely different from the way we found it. You have to tell the truth, or else, I'll take your food away." Xingxing threatened the two of them in a cute but fierce way.
The girl made a scared face and even tried to make a funny face. She wasn't afraid of this cute little girl at all. However, after being glanced at by the white-clad boy next to her, she immediately became obedient.
