Chapter 36 The Stars Want to Raise Rabbits

The quintuplets dropped everything they were holding and swarmed towards the rabbit, flattening a large swathe of rice with their pounce.

Zhao Guihua was so angry that she immediately scolded, "You bunch of brats, watch your step! You've crushed a whole patch of rice. How are we going to harvest it later?"

But the five brothers were oblivious to her words, preoccupied with chasing the rabbit. It was such a big, fat rabbit; they'd have meat to eat tonight, and they had to catch it.

Finally, Zhou Sifu, the fastest of the group, caught the rabbit. He grinned and walked happily to Xingxing, holding the rabbit by its ears. "Xingxing, look! Fourth Brother caught it! We'll have meat for dinner tonight!"

As expected, Xingxing did not disappoint him, praising with starry eyes, "Fourth Brother is amazing, he runs faster than a rabbit."

Zhou Sifu: "?" Why does this sound so off?

Everyone burst into laughter.

Xingxing was a little confused. What were her parents and brother laughing about?

Zhao Guihua was initially angry that her sons had messed up the rice paddies, but seeing the plump wild rabbits put her in a good mood, so she stopped criticizing them.

"The rabbit's belly is so fat! Daddy, Mommy, Brother, look! Isn't the rabbit's belly really big? Did the rabbit steal a lot of crops?" I don't know why Xingxing's focus is on the rabbit's belly.

When everyone heard her say that, they all gathered around to look and discovered that the rabbit wasn't just particularly fat; its belly was especially large, almost ridiculously so.

“Dad, this rabbit looks like it’s pregnant!” Zhao Guihua picked up the rabbit and examined it closely.

After taking a few glances, Boss Zhou nodded with certainty, "This is a female rabbit, and she is indeed pregnant. Her belly is so big, I reckon she'll be giving birth soon."

"Really? The wild rabbit has babies and is going to be a rabbit mom?" Xingxing's little voice suddenly became high-pitched, the little girl was obviously excited and surprised. "Then we can't eat the rabbit, Xingxing is going to raise the rabbit to have babies."

The quintuplets looked disappointed; they didn't want to have babies, they just wanted to eat rabbit meat.

"Mom and Dad, can Xingxing keep this rabbit?" Xingxing asked her two elders hopefully.

“It’s perfect that we don’t keep any poultry at home. This rabbit is about to have babies, so it would be a good choice to raise it. But if you raise a rabbit, you’ll have to pick grass for it to eat every day,” Zhao Guihua said to her daughter with a doting smile.

"Xingxing is willing to pick grass for the rabbit to eat every day, Xingxing wants to raise the rabbit," she then asked her five brothers, "Five brothers, Xingxing wants to raise this rabbit, do you agree?"

Since his younger sister had asked such a question, how could the five brothers of Fu refuse her or upset her? Of course they had to agree.

“Since we’re going to keep them in a cage, it’s easy for the rabbits to get hurt if we tie them up with ropes. There are no cages here, so we have to send the wild rabbits home first,” Zhou Dafu said.

Xingxing immediately raised her hand and said, "Xingxing can do it. Xingxing knows the way home. I'll carry the rabbit home. Parents and brother, don't worry. You can continue cutting rice and don't delay your work."

"There's no way we can let her go back on her own," Zhao Guihua said, raising her chin and pointing at Zhou Erfu. "Erfu, your arm is injured, so do less work. Take Xingxing home and cook lunch for her, then bring it over."

We had brought some dry food with us, and none of us planned to go back. We wanted to finish the harvest in one go if the weather was good. If it suddenly rained, the rice would get wet, which would be a big problem.

However, farm work is very tiring. Since some people are going back and their families have enough to eat, they can cook some food and bring it over. Everyone is comfortable with their food and has more energy to work.

“Okay, then Xingxing and I will go back first.” Zhou Erfu picked up the rabbit and was about to leave.

"Don't make such a fuss. Get some branches and vines to cover the rabbit so that no one will see it and be jealous," Zhao Guihua quickly reminded her.

That makes sense. Zhou Erfu immediately ran to the edge of the field and started digging through the grass and branches. In no time, he had broken off branches and grass and brought them over.

Suddenly, Xingxing pointed to a spot where the rice paddies were swaying and whispered, "There seem to be several wild rabbits over there."

Several?

Not to mention the quintuplets, even Zhou Laoda and Zhao Guihua's eyes lit up at the same time, and they all rushed over quickly. Xingxing was stunned for a moment, and then ran over as well.

"I caught one." Zhou Wufu poked his head out from among the rice seedlings, looking disheveled, with a few shallow scratches on his face from the rice stalks, and grinned like a silly goose.

"I caught another one! This one is a bit small, hehe." Zhou Sifu was overjoyed. The one he caught earlier was pregnant and couldn't be killed, but this one, although a bit small, could be killed and eaten.

Zhou Erfu also caught one, and it was quite fat. His eyes were practically glowing with greed as he looked at the fat rabbit in his hand. Although there was no shortage of meat at home, he hadn't had wild rabbit meat in a long time and was really craving it.

Zhou Laoda, Zhao Guihua, Zhou Dafu, and Zhou Zhoufu all failed to catch any rabbits. They rushed over together and saw a total of eight wild rabbits, which made them very happy. Unfortunately, only three of them caught them in the end, and five escaped.

"Xingxing caught a rabbit too! It's so fat, its belly is so big, Xingxing can hardly carry it anymore." Xingxing was both happy and sad. This fat rabbit ran up to her by itself, then lay down at her feet and didn't move, as if waiting for her to catch it.

She caught it, but it was so heavy! It was hard for Xingxing to hold.

Seeing this, everyone gathered around again, staring dumbfounded at the silly rabbit.

"This wild rabbit isn't very bright; it just lets itself be caught without even struggling." Zhou Erfu found it intriguing, so he tossed the rabbit he was holding to Zhou Dafu and went to pick up the one Xingxing was carrying.

As a result, the wild rabbit that had been lying there dumbfounded in Xingxing's arms was now in his hands, kicking its four legs violently, looking very frightened and eager to escape. If Zhou Erfu hadn't been strong, he probably would have let it break free.
