"You know you deserve it. If you dare to bully Xingxing again, I'll beat you to death," Zhou Erfu said fiercely.
"I'll never do it again, I'll never do it again." Zhou Dahua didn't dare to look directly at the stars, shrinking into herself and sobbing.
"What's with that expression? It's like I'm going to eat you up," Xingxing pouted, feeling completely bewildered.
Zhou Dahua stole a glance at Xingxing, but immediately looked away in fear when their eyes met. Suddenly, she started crawling forward. "I, I'm going back. I didn't do anything bad today. I didn't hit anyone or curse anyone."
"Could Zhou Dahua have gone mad from snake venom?" Zhou Wufu's lips twitched; he really couldn't understand what she was doing.
"Who knows? He's probably been poisoned in the brain," Zhou Erfu said, pursing his lips.
"She went crazy from being bitten by a snake, it's so tragic." Xingxing shook her head, suddenly feeling a little sorry for Zhou Dahua.
The three of them then ignored Zhou Dahua and hurried back.
When they got home, Zhou Wufu put the two pregnant rabbits in a cage, while Zhou Erfu took the smallest rabbit to kill, leaving the other two to be killed that evening.
"Fifth Brother, what kind of grass do wild rabbits eat? How much do they need to eat to be full?" Xingxing tilted her head and asked earnestly.
Zhou Wufu had never actually raised rabbits before, but he had seen other people do so, so he knew what kind of grass rabbits ate. He then led Xingxing to the backyard.
“Sweet potato vines and these greens can be used to feed rabbits, and so can these grasses.” As Zhou Wufu spoke, he had already picked a lot of sweet potato leaves and pulled up a lot of grass.
Xingxing also stuck out her little bottom and started pulling grass. After a while, the two of them brought back a lot of grass and sweet potato leaves to feed the rabbits. They put these into the cage, and sure enough, the two pregnant rabbits chewed on them.
"After the rice harvest is finished in a few days, Dad will build a burrow for the rabbits. When they have baby rabbits, they won't be crowded, and we can raise a lot of rabbits." When the baby rabbits grow up, we can eat rabbit meat every day.
Xingxing wholeheartedly agreed, "If we raise lots of rabbits, we won't have to worry about not having meat to eat!"
Zhou Wufu was stunned for a moment, and looked at Xingxing deeply. He had thought that Xingxing kept the rabbits as pets and would be reluctant to eat them. He did not expect that his sister's purpose in keeping the rabbits was also to eat meat. He was really thinking of her.
Lunch was rabbit and mushroom porridge. Zhou Erfu, Zhou Wufu, and Xingxing each ate two bowls. After lunch, Xingxing got sleepy and sat there nodding her little head.
Zhou Erfu picked her up to take her back to her room to sleep, but she suddenly opened her eyes wide and mumbled, "Second Brother, I don't want to take a nap. I want to go with you to deliver lunch."
“Your fifth brother and I will deliver the food. You can stay home and sleep. I’ll come right back after I deliver the food and then take you there,” Zhou Erfu coaxed her softly.
Xingxing raised her little pink fist and rubbed her eyes a few times, then shook her head. Her voice was soft and sweet, "Xingxing doesn't want to take a nap. It's busy farming season now, and everyone is busy harvesting rice. Xingxing wants to help, so she shouldn't sleep."
Zhou Erfu chuckled and vigorously ruffled her little head a few times until her little tufts of hair were all messed up. “You’re becoming more and more sensible, but you’re too young to do much work. It’s okay for you to take a nap.”
These words made Xingxing puff out her cheeks, quite unconvinced. "Xingxing is very capable. Xingxing can even catch rabbits."
She doesn't want to rest, she's so young but she's always worrying, and she doesn't accept that others say she's too young.
"Okay, okay, I know. Xingxing is our family's little lucky star. She's very capable. Let's go deliver lunch together. No need for a nap." Zhou Erfu carried her into the kitchen and then let her sit on a low stool by herself.
Zhou Erfu and Zhou Wufu were busy filling bamboo tubes with meat porridge. Their family didn't have much else, but they had a lot of bamboo tubes. They filled five bamboo tubes with meat porridge and then took Xingxing to deliver the food.
When delivering the food, the three of them didn't take a detour. When they passed the fields belonging to Old Zhou's family, they didn't see Zhou Dahua, nor did Old Man Zhou and Old Lady Zhou. They guessed that the two elders had taken Zhou Dahua home.
Zhou Erfu and Zhou Wufu kept their eyes straight ahead, pretending not to see Zhou Laosi and Zhong Mailian sitting on the edge of the field eating dry rations.
Old Zhou took a bite of his dry wild vegetable bun, glanced at his two nephews and the little girl passing by, and then looked at the bamboo tubes hanging on their bodies. His eyes darted around a few times before he got up and blocked their way.
"Erfu," he called out, then hesitated for a moment before tentatively asking, "Is this Wufu?"
The quintuplets look so alike that Zhou Laosi, who hadn't had much contact with them, couldn't quite tell some of them apart. Zhou Erfu, however, was recognized immediately because of his arm injury, while Zhou Wufu was just a guess.
Although the quintuplets were born on the same day, Zhou Wufu was the youngest. As the youngest child, the parents would always dote on him more and let him do less heavy work. Lighter tasks such as delivering meals would usually be given to the youngest child. Therefore, he guessed that the other one should be Zhou Wufu.
Zhou Erfu and Zhou Wufu didn't want to talk to him, but this man was just as difficult to deal with as Zhou Laosan, and he stubbornly blocked their way.
“We have nothing to say to you. Get out of the way and stop blocking our path.” Zhou Erfu’s face was tense, and his tiger-like eyes were slightly narrowed, carrying a dangerous signal.
Seeing that he looked ready to fight at any moment, Zhou Laosi was a little intimidated by him. It was no secret that Erfu was particularly strong; everyone in the village knew that. If Zhou Laosi hadn't taken him too seriously before, it would be a different story.
However, the fact that Zhou Laosan and his wife were seriously injured by Erfu a few days ago had a great deterrent effect. At this time, although Zhou Laosi wanted to cause trouble, he dared not make any rash moves.
"Erfu, I'm your uncle. Your fourth uncle just wants to see what's in your bamboo tubes. That's all. I just want to take a look. Don't get agitated." Zhou Laosi grinned, but showed no intention of moving aside.
