"What happened? What's going on outside?" Several villagers on the island looked at each other in horror, then secretly glanced at Zhu Lin and the others, thinking they were not showing any emotion.
There was a row of empty houses, where people were working. When they heard the noise, they all stopped what they were doing and wanted to come out to see what was going on. Some of the more timid people even had the urge to run away.
The pirates overseeing the work also heard the commotion outside. They went outside and looked towards the beach. When they saw countless torches in the distance, it seemed that many people had come ashore, and they were momentarily stunned.
They were just sitting in the corner dozing off. If it weren't for the sudden explosion next door that woke them up, they would be fast asleep by now. But they had only been awake for a short while when someone attacked the island.
"What's going on? Who is so bold as to trespass on my island?" Yokoyama Chiyo had just lain down to rest when she heard the sounds of fighting coming from the beach. At first, she thought she was hallucinating, but after waiting for a while, the noise did not disappear; instead, it became clearer and clearer.
She finally realized that someone had trespassed on the island. Then she immediately thought of the people sent by the imperial court who had sailed over during the day. It seemed that they had not insisted on taking a detour. The pirates who chased after them not only failed to kill them, but were instead killed themselves.
These pirates are utterly useless. They couldn't even handle the imperial court's men. All five hundred of them were killed. How long can the eight hundred-plus men on the island hold out?
She suddenly jumped out of bed, reached for the sword hanging on the wall, and hissed. She had forgotten that her right arm was injured, and now, with the exertion, blood seeped out.
Hmph, even with an injured hand, she can still wield a sword.
"Miss Heng, government troops have invaded the island. There are too many of them, and our men are almost unable to hold them off." The pirate leader had already retreated, showing no intention of fighting to the death.
That's not all. Behind them followed the second, third, and fourth... a whole hundred pirate leaders, all of them highly skilled in martial arts, who all led the way back. Those still fighting bravely were probably not very loyal, but rather lowly henchmen who had no time to escape and were forced to resist.
"You! Who gave you permission to run away? How long has it been since they attacked? You didn't even put up a fight before fleeing. Where is your usual ruthlessness towards defenseless civilians? Show it now! You must defend this island and not let the imperial court succeed!"
"Go back to the fight! Don't run away, do you hear me?" Yokoyama Chiyo drew her sword and pointed it at the pirates, forcing them to go back to battle.
But the pirate leaders were no longer listening to her. They weren't particularly happy to work for Yokoyama Chiyo, even though she was a skilled fighter and had some ability. They would naturally be willing to follow her if it meant a good life.
But right now the imperial court has too many people, and they are incredibly powerful. If they resist, they will only be throwing their lives away. As the saying goes, a wise man submits to circumstances. If they don't escape now, they will really lose their lives if they drag this out any longer.
"Oh dear, Miss Heng, please don't make things difficult for us. Don't be stubborn. Let's escape quickly and head up the mountain. If we delay any longer, it will be too late. The people the imperial court sent this time are truly formidable. We can't defeat them. As long as we're alive, we can always fight again. Why be so reckless now?" The pirate leader wiped his face and sighed heavily. He held a large knife in his hand, and blood was dripping from the blade.
"No, this island is my base. We can't let it be destroyed like this. You all go back and hold off those people. We must protect this base."
This woman has gone mad again. She keeps muttering about a base and is obsessed with building weapons. After more than two years, she has only managed to build two fire emplacements, and she keeps both of them for herself and won't share them with others.
There wasn't even a trace of the supposedly powerful cannons; it seemed like a waste of time. They might as well take a big knife and rob fishermen or go inland to raid merchant ships.
"You can stay here and protect us if you want, we're running for our lives," the pirate leader replied in a rough voice, then led his men up the mountain.
"Who told you to leave? Did I agree to let you leave?" Yokoyama Chiyo gripped her sword with both hands, moved quickly on her feet, then leaped up and slashed downwards.
The pirate leader didn't even have time to groan before his head was chopped off. He rolled to the ground like a ball at Yokoyama Chiyo's feet, where she kicked him hard, sending the ball flying.
"This is what will happen to anyone who dares to disobey my orders." She wouldn't allow anyone to retreat unless she said so.
The other pirates were frightened by her move, and as expected, no one dared to escape anymore. They had no choice but to stay put and listen to her orders. When Yokoyama Chiyo saw that everyone had behaved, her anger subsided slightly.
"You lot, listen to my orders and go capture the princess of the Great Jin Dynasty. Once you capture her, what are you afraid of the court not compromising?" Many people understand the principle of capturing the leader first, but not everyone knows how to do it.
However, not every king is easy to capture. At this moment, Xingxing and Zhulin and others were standing not far away watching a play, witnessing this female Japanese pirate kill people and then lead people to capture her.
"You think you can just catch whoever you want? You Japanese pirate!" Xingxing angrily pointed at the other person and cursed.
Chiyo Yokoyama suddenly turned around and looked around. The night was hazy and moonless, and the candlelight inside the house was dim and yellow, but it did not prevent her from seeing the girl standing in front of the dilapidated house in the distance, as well as the handsome boy beside her.
"When did you come up here? How long have you been watching?" She had been careless; her attention was entirely on the beach, and because there were many people working here, she hadn't noticed the outsiders entering.
"We arrived when your house was blown up, but we were inside the house until you started stabbing people," Xingxing explained kindly.
