Hearing the sound, Cui Liu immediately snapped out of her daze and came over to help Cui Zhu up. "The thief ran away, and the guards went after him. Are you alright? Tell me what happened."
At the Zhou residence, Erfu and Sifu rushed home like a gust of wind. They entered through the side gate, and by then everyone in the house should have been asleep. The two of them were very careful and did not make a sound.
"You brats, you still know how to come back? Tell me where you've been all day. The situation outside is so serious, what trouble are you causing?" Old Master Zhou had been standing in the corner next to the side door for a long time. When he saw his two sons return, he slapped each of them.
Erfu and Sifu were both taller than Zhou Laoda. Originally, Zhou Laoda was going to pat their heads, but he ended up patting the back of their necks with two loud "slaps".
"Ouch, Dad, be gentle, it hurts!" Erfu cried out.
Sifu also complained through gritted teeth, "Dad, how old are we? You still hit us. It's not right to hit a son this old just like that."
"How old are you? Can you be older than me and your mother? Let me tell you, even if you're only in your early twenties, or even if you're in your fifties or sixties and make a mistake, we'll still beat you. Your father will always be your father." Old Zhou sneered.
Both Erfu and Sifu were covered in sweat and quickly begged for mercy, "Yes, Dad, you're the eldest in the family. When we sons need to be beaten or scolded, you and Mom shouldn't be soft-hearted. Just do what you have to do. But it's getting late, let's go back to our rooms and rest instead of standing around."
"Stop right there! Don't think I'll let this go just because you say that. I'm asking you, what did you do out today?" Boss Zhou asked with a stern face.
Zhou Sifu glanced at Zhou Erfu and quickly pointed at the latter, "Dad, this whole thing was caused by Second Brother. Ask him."
Erfu was furious and embarrassed. "What I do is my own business. Who told you to follow me? I haven't even settled accounts with you for stalking me, and you're already complaining."
Seeing that his two sons were about to fight, Zhou the eldest stopped them, "Shut up, no fighting allowed. You two better behave yourselves and don't try to shirk responsibility. Talk one at a time. Erfu, you go first."
After a short while, Zhou Laoda returned to his room. Zhao Guihua was about to get up and go out to check on him, but she lay back down when she saw him return.
"Erfu and Sifu are back. Did they cause any trouble when they went out?" Zhao Guihua asked.
“I don’t know how to explain this,” Zhou Laoda said in a muffled voice as he took off his outer shirt and lay down on the bed. “Guihua, Erfu is probably doomed this time. Nothing can bring him back.”
"What do you mean?"
"He spent the whole day guarding the Chen residence, and then sneaked in to meet the Chen family's daughter in the evening. He even gave her a lot of gifts. Sifu, that fool, followed his second brother all day and then followed him into the Chen residence in the evening. He almost got caught red-handed by the Chen family's guards." Zhou Laoda sighed as he recounted the events.
Upon hearing this, Zhao Guihua was wide awake. She sat up, her expression somewhat grave. "So, Erfu is determined to marry Miss Chen and won't marry anyone else?"
"Of course! That rascal Erfu just said that if he can't marry Miss Chen, he'll never get married again and will become a monk." Old Zhou laughed angrily at the memory.
