Not only Xingxing thought so, but Zhu Lin thought so too. He also disliked being confined in the palace, busy with government affairs all day long. It was not a free life for him.
Now that Xingxing has accepted the throne, he must sit firmly on it and govern the country well. This is a different matter from whether he wants to do it or not. Since some responsibilities have fallen on your shoulders, you must take them on. This is a matter of principle.
The baby, barely formed in the womb, trembled with fear, feeling immense pressure even before being born, as if its parents were unreliable.
Zhao Guihua and Zhou Laoda had lunch with Xingxing and Zhu Lin in the palace. After Xingxing took a nap, they left the palace. Xingxing asked them to stay overnight, but they declined, as the palace was too luxurious and opulent for them to be used to.
It's New Year's Eve again. Xingxing is feeling unwell and doesn't plan to host a banquet for the officials. Zhu Lin also dislikes that kind of scene, so there will be no banquet in the palace this New Year's Eve.
On New Year's Eve, the entire Zhou family went to the palace to have New Year's Eve dinner with Xingxing. Of course, Chen Siqing was also summoned to the palace by Xingxing, so Erfu could see her again. This can be considered a benefit that Xingxing secured for Erfu.
Just as they were enjoying their meal, Chun Chun suddenly started gagging. The palace maid who was serving the food quickly turned around and brought in a spittoon. Chun Chun bent over and vomited for a while. After that, she said that the smell of meat made her stomach feel uncomfortable.
"Oh my, what a joyous occasion! It's been a while since the wedding, and there's still no news. Now it's finally happening!" Zhao Guihua clapped her hands with delight and happily expressed what was on her mind.
Everyone was speechless. They always thought their parents were in no hurry to have a grandson, but it turned out they were just holding back their excitement.
"Luckily, Mother isn't the kind of mother-in-law who's hard to get along with, otherwise Chun Chun and I would have suffered so much from not having any children for so long," Chen Yueru said, sticking out her tongue.
Zhou Sanfu held her hand, looking down at her abdomen thoughtfully.
"Hey, what are you looking at?" Chen Yueru muttered in annoyance.
“We got married on the same day as our elder brother and sister-in-law. Now that our sister-in-law is pregnant, why haven’t we had any news yet?” Sanfu wasn’t blaming Ruru. He just felt a little envious. His elder brother had a child, and he wanted one too.
Xingxing didn't care what her third brother and sister-in-law were struggling with. She called for the imperial physician to come and check her sister-in-law's pulse to see if she was really pregnant.
The imperial physician arrived shortly afterward. By then, no one had any appetite and got up to go to a side hall. After the physician finished taking their pulses, everyone stared at him, hoping to hear what they wanted to hear from him.
The imperial physician didn't keep them in suspense and said with a smile, "Your Majesty, Madam Zhou has a slippery pulse, indicating she is two months pregnant."
The stars were rewarded to the imperial physician, who then left Chang'an Palace, leaving everyone overjoyed.
“I told you I was pregnant, but you didn’t believe me. Chun Chun, you’d better take good care of yourself and stop doing embroidery. You have to be careful a lot when you’re pregnant.” Zhao Guihua grinned from ear to ear.
Chun Chun lowered her head shyly, but a gentle, happy smile graced her face.
"Ugh." At this moment, Chen Yueru also suddenly gagged twice. She was somewhat bewildered when she saw everyone looking at her.
Zhu Lin reacted quickly and had the palace servants rush back to fetch the imperial physician to check Chen Yueru's pulse as well. It turned out that it was indeed a double blessing; Chen Yueru was also pregnant, a little over a month later than Chun Chun, about half a month later.
"It seems today is truly an auspicious day. Both of my sisters-in-law are pregnant, and it's the Lunar New Year, so they deserve a reward, a generous one." Xingxinglong was overjoyed.
Everyone was filled with joy, and the New Year was both lively and happy.
Spring arrived quickly after the New Year. On the morning of the second day of the second lunar month, the day the dragon raises its head, the stars moved, and the palace was in chaos. The palace servants were busy running around, not daring to be negligent in the slightest, because the emperor was giving birth, which was no small matter.
Zhu Chumo and the imperial physician were waiting outside the delivery room, just in case. There were four midwives inside, and Zhao Guihua was also by Xingxing's side, encouraging her.
Zhu Linyuan also wanted to go into the delivery room, but Zhao Guihua kicked him out and made him wait outside. He could only stand at the door with a stiff face, like a door god.
They stood there until late afternoon, without even having lunch, for a full three hours. Then, a loud cry of a newborn baby came from the delivery room.
At this moment, Zhu Lin's spirits lifted, and his face was no longer so pale. He was eager to go in and check the situation, but soon one of the midwives came out carrying the child.
"Congratulations, Prince Hui! It's a little prince, a chubby and fair-skinned boy." The midwife smiled broadly with joy.
"It's a son," Zhu Lin murmured, then immediately asked, "How is the Emperor?"
"His Majesty is alright. They are currently cleaning him up inside. Prince Hui, please wait a little longer before you can go in to see His Majesty." After saying this, the midwife carried the child back into the palace.
"I'm a grandfather now!" Old Zhou cried tears of joy.
Dafu, Erfu, Sanfu, Sifu, and Wufu also had red eyes. They were now uncles, and the future emperor's uncles at that. Their feelings were indescribable.
Hearing that it was a prince, Xingxing felt even more joy. She hoped that her son would be able to live up to her expectations when he grew up, and also put his father and mother at ease. It was destined that a woman would have to work much harder than a man to become emperor, since most of the people in the world were in power.
If she didn't have the support of the people from Xianwu Island and Brother Lin's all-out help, she would definitely have been exhausted to the point of vomiting blood on her own. The prince is good, everyone is happy now.
When the emperor began his labor, the ministers naturally received the news as well. They were all eager to find out the details as soon as possible. These ministers were not so worried about whether the emperor's childbirth was dangerous; they were more concerned about whether the emperor would give birth to a boy or a girl.
