Chapter 50 All the money is gone

Upon hearing the somewhat familiar voice, Zhao Guihua's heart skipped a beat. She turned around abruptly. She hadn't noticed before, but now, upon closer inspection, she realized that the eyes set in that dark face were so familiar.

"Zhao Guizhi? Big sister, is that you, big sister?" Zhao Guihua shoved Xingxing next to Zhou Laoda and staggered over.

"Guihua, it really is you! I'm Guizhi, your older sister, it's me!" Zhao Guizhi was being trampled on and couldn't get up, but her voice was still very loud, filled with anticipation and excitement.

Zhao Guihua ran over and shoved the vendor aside, yelling fiercely, "Get out of my way! It's just two steamed buns, only a few coins. Do you want to kill him?"

At this moment, Zhou Laoda, carrying Xingxing and his five sons, came over. When the vendor tried to attack Zhao Guihua, Zhou Erfu and Zhou Sifu jumped out and pinned the vendor down. The two children were almost ten years old, but their strength was beyond that of ordinary people. The vendor was pinned down and could not move at all.

"Let me go! You people are so unreasonable! He stole my steamed bun first..." The vendor grumbled and cursed for a while, but Zhou Erfu pressed harder and shoved the man to the ground. The vendor immediately pursed his lips, knowing that if he continued cursing, he would end up eating dirt and sand.

Zhao Guihua helped Zhao Guizhi up, patted the dust off her body, and brushed aside her messy hair. Now that she was up close, she could clearly see her appearance.

"Big sister, it really is you, how could you..." But she choked up and couldn't finish her sentence.

"Don't sit on the ground anymore, let's find a place to talk slowly." Old Zhou looked at the sky and then at the onlookers. He didn't want to be made a fool of anymore. Since he recognized her as his sister-in-law, he decided to take her home.

"Erfu, release the man and give him the money for the steamed buns," Zhou Laoda gestured.

Zhou Erfu tossed two copper coins to the vendor, and the little guy said fiercely, "One steamed bun costs one coin, two cost two coins. You've paid for the steamed buns. You hit my aunt before, and I hit you just now. That evens things out. Do you accept it?"

Vendor: He has no choice but to submit, he can't win a fight.

"Big sister, come home with me first." Zhao Guihua sniffed and helped Zhao Guizhi out of the city.

“Guihua, I’m not alone. There’s someone waiting for me in this dilapidated temple,” Zhao Guizhi said, her eyes red.

Zhao Guihua glanced at Zhou Laoda, who nodded.

"Big sister, let's go and bring that person back too. We're sisters, there's no need to be so polite with me." Zhao Guihua patted her hand reassuringly.

Later, Zhao Guizhi led them to a desolate hillside. There was a small, dilapidated temple on the edge of the hillside. When they went inside, they found it was even more dilapidated, covered with cobwebs everywhere.

"Cough cough." As soon as they entered, everyone was choked by the dust and coughed.

Zhao Guizhi walked quickly to the corner of the dilapidated temple, where everyone noticed a person lying there. It would be more accurate to say that the person was curled up rather than lying down; without even looking, everyone could tell that the person was very ill.

"Eat up, you won't be hungry anymore." Zhao Guizhi handed two steamed buns to a small figure in the shadows in the corner.

There was another child there. The child must have been starving. He was stuffing steamed buns into his mouth and quickly choked. His eyes rolled back, but he kept stuffing more buns into his mouth.

"No one's going to take it from you, sweetie, spit it out first, then eat slowly." Zhao Guizhi patted the child's back forcefully, trying to dislodge the food that was stuck in his throat.

"Have some water, I have some here." Zhao Guihua quickly handed over the bamboo tube filled with water.

After drinking the water, the child finally swallowed his food. Now, while gulping down the food, he kept a wary eye on Zhao Guihua and her group, as if afraid they would suddenly snatch his steamed bun.

Seeing how hungry the child was, Zhao Guihua felt a pang of heartache. She quickly rummaged through her cloth bag and took out three meat buns, stuffing two into Zhao Guizhi's hands and giving one to the child.

"Take this and eat it. If it's not enough, I have more here." She had also fled from disaster before, and sometimes she would not be able to eat a meal for several days and could only survive by drinking water.

There was a drought at that time, and later there was no water to drink. Several times we almost starved and died of thirst.

After Zhao Guizhi finished eating two meat buns, Zhao Guihua wanted to take more, but the former shook her head, "I'm full, don't take any more. Guihua, do you have any money on you? Shunping is very ill, and I want to take him to see a doctor."

Having just earned two taels of silver from selling herbs today, Zhao Guihua nodded and said, "Yes, let's go, we'll take someone to see a doctor right away."

Seeing that the man named Shunping was very ill, Zhao Guihua didn't ask any more questions. She guessed that this man had an unusual relationship with her eldest sister, or that he had done her a favor, which was why her eldest sister was so eager to save him.

Zhou Laoda put Xingxing down and said to Zhou Erfu, "You carry your sister, and I'll carry the patient."

When Zhou Laoda carried Chen Shunping out, Zhao Guizhi went to pick up the child, but Zhao Guihua pulled her back and whispered, "Let me pick him up."

The older sister is so thin, a gust of wind could blow her away. How could she have the strength to hold a child? Although the child was also skin and bones, and had no weight at all when held, the child struggled at first.

After Zhao Guizhi said a few words of comfort, the child obediently stopped moving.

The group quickly arrived at the main pharmacy, which was the largest pharmacy in town. The reason they came here was because they had become familiar with the pharmacist there.

The old doctor frowned subconsciously when he saw the patient wearing tattered and smelly clothes, but he didn't say anything and dutifully took the patient's pulse.

"The patient must have been seriously injured several times during the escape, and did not receive timely treatment. He was also often hungry, and his body was severely depleted. He also seems to have suffered another serious injury recently. If he is not treated soon, he may not be able to hold on for more than a few days."
