Chapter 67 The Stars Sell Steamed Buns

On the other hand, Zhao Guihua wondered, "Xingxing is not as stupid as Ruru. How come Ruru can recite the Three Character Classic, but Xingxing can't? Could it be that she has such a complete amnesia that she can't remember anything at all?"

Logically, Xingxing's background shouldn't be worse than Ruru's; she should have received some education, right?

Zhao Guihua started daydreaming. Xingxing called her several times but didn't hear her. "Mom, why are you ignoring me? Xingxing wants some honey water. Xingxing is thirsty."

"Okay, wait here, I'll go make it for you right away." Zhao Guihua snapped out of her daze, got up and went to the kitchen, and quickly made a bowl of honey water.

"The honey is in the cabinet in the kitchen. Dafu and the others, remember this. Next time Xingxing wants honey water, just mix it for her."

After giving her instructions, Zhao Guihua went on and on, telling Dafu to help Xingxing wash her clothes, and that Erfu and Sifu should protect Xingxing from being bullied by the other students at the private school.

"Sanfu, you have a good memory and can remember things well. If Xingxing didn't remember something at the private school during the day, teach her more when she gets back. Wufu, keep an eye on Xingxing. If she misses home, try to cheer her up." Oh dear, I feel uneasy about everything when my daughter isn't around.

"Mom, you've said this so many times, we brothers are sick of it. We've memorized it. Don't worry, we'll take good care of Xingxing. Besides, there's Auntie, isn't there?" Zhou Wufu rubbed his temples, looking speechless.

Zhao Guihua finally stopped saying anything, but Xingxing started nagging, "Mom, remember to dig earthworms for the ducklings. They need to eat worms once a day. Don't just feed them bran all the time. After the ducklings have molted, take them to the stream to catch fish to eat."

And don't forget to feed Gray and Blackie. While I'm away, don't forget to pick hay for their two litters. If they miss me, tell them that Star is at school and I'll come back to see them during my vacation.

When we first bought the little yellow ducks, Xingxing was eager to take them to play in the stream, but luckily Zhao Guihua stopped her in time.

"The ducklings are too small to go into the water right now, or their legs will get weak and they'll get sick. They can go into the water after they've molted their feathers," Zhao Guihua explained to her, both amused and exasperated.

Later, although Xingxing didn't take the ducklings to play in the stream anymore, she always kept it in mind. Every day, she would take a small wooden shovel and dig earthworms for the ducklings to eat, hoping that they would grow up quickly, molt, and go to play in the stream.

Zhou Wufu listened for a while and couldn't help but say, "Mom, look how talkative my sister is. She must have learned it from you. You should nag less in the future and not lead Xingxing astray."

"You brat, are you looking for a beating? Don't run away, you stop right there! You think I'm nagging? If I don't teach you a lesson today, you won't know who your mother is!" Zhao Guihua roared, hands on her hips.

After watching for a while, Xingxing put her pink paws on her waist and struck a teapot pose, then said loudly, "Sigh, this brat is such a waste of my time. All he does is make his mother angry every day."

"Pfft." Dafu and the other brothers couldn't help but laugh. When they saw their mother glaring at them, they quickly scattered like birds.

Zhao Guihua felt a sudden heart attack, but when she saw Xingxing striking the same teapot pose as her, she froze, quickly lowered her hands, cleared her throat, and pretended nothing had happened.

Then, holding Xingxing, he began to patiently explain, "...So you can't learn those quarrelsome and swearing words from the village anymore, and you can't stand around with your hands on your hips, stomp your feet, or jump around like that. Be civilized. We will be scholars after we go to school, and we can't be like those shrewish women who spew nonsense."

Xingxing: Actually, being a shrew isn't so bad. The people in the village are really good at arguing. Whenever someone argues, Xingxing stands by and listens carefully, just in case someone comes up to her and she can't win the argument.

But if her mother says she can't learn it, then she won't learn it, so her mother won't always be frowning and worried. But, "Mother, don't scholars ever argue?"

Zhao Guihua: "Everyone argues, right? But scholars are good at writing articles and poetry. When scholars curse, they don't use swear words. That's quite sophisticated. If we're uneducated and a scholar curses us, we won't even understand it. So Xingxing must study hard so that she can curse without using swear words in the future."

Star: So the purpose of studying is to be able to curse without using any swear words and still be unintelligible to others?

If Zhao Guihua knew what the little girl was thinking, she would definitely say, "Mother really didn't mean that. Studying isn't about arguing to get promoted. We study to learn to read and write, to do accounting, so we won't be peasants in the future."

Xingxing seemed to understand, but she said she would definitely study hard, keep her mother's words in mind, and be a good girl.

Yu Ri, after breakfast, the group began preparing the food to sell at noon. Two stoves were placed on the cart, one for frying rice and the other for steaming buns. Once everything was ready and the dough was kneaded, they were sent to the dock.

There aren't many food stalls at the dock right now, mainly because of the natural disaster that happened before, which brought in a flood of refugees. There were no boats docking at the dock, meaning there were no goods to move. Without goods to move, there were no passengers or porters coming and going at the dock.

Nobody does yarn business anymore. Nowadays, there are only two stalls at the dock, both selling steamed buns and dumplings. Including Zhao Guizhi's stall, there are three stalls in total.

As lunchtime approached, porters and some customers gradually came to buy food, but most of them went to the other two stalls, leaving Zhao Guizhi's stall deserted.

"This can't go on, no one's coming to buy," Zhao Guihua said anxiously, but she couldn't think of a solution.

Since there weren't many customers, the quintuplets ran off to play elsewhere, and we couldn't stop them no matter how much we called them.

Xingxing blinked, seeing her aunt and mother standing there like fools, and felt a little strange. "Auntie, Mom, our pancakes and buns are two coins each, aren't they?"
