After a morning of commotion, things finally calmed down. The rain was getting heavier and heavier. With the sound of raindrops, Zhou Erfu and Zhou Sifu were still practicing the Three Character Classic, but they no longer had to kneel.
"Bang bang." After a few knocks, a man's anxious voice came from the door, "Boss Zhou, hurry up and check on your old house, something's happened."
Old Zhou was taking a nap in the room, snoring loudly, so he couldn't hear anything outside. Zhao Guihua was sitting in the main room mending clothes when she heard the noise and came out to peek into the room.
"Dafu, go wake your father up. Sanfu, go open the door," Zhao Guihua said.
After giving the instructions, Zhao Guihua went into Xingxing's room by herself. Xingxing takes a nap every day, and she was afraid that the person knocking on the door outside would disturb Xingxing.
Upon entering the room, I found that Xingxing was as calm as ever, sleeping soundly without being disturbed by the noise outside. The little girl was sleeping peacefully.
Zhao Guihua tucked the blanket around Xingxing, but her ears were perked up to listen to what the newcomer was saying. Meanwhile, Zhou Laoda had already been dragged out of bed by Zhou Sanfu.
"What's up?" Old Zhou hadn't slept enough and was still a bit grumpy in bed, so his tone wasn't very pleasant.
"A few of your brothers at your old house got into a fight, and Zhou Lao Er's head was cracked open. We saw things were getting out of hand, so we came to let you know," the man shouted.
To be honest, Old Zhou didn't want to get involved in the Zhou family's affairs at all. However, since someone had come to his door to ask him to come, it would be unreasonable for him not to go. No matter how bad the relationship was usually, he couldn't ignore it when something happened.
This damn bloodline.
Zhao Guihua didn't want to get involved, so she sent the five Fu brothers with Zhou Laoda on a trip, while she stayed home to look after the stars.
Seeing that the father and his sons seemed about to rush out, Zhao Guihua quickly called out to them, "It's raining so hard, don't get your clothes wet, put on your straw hats."
When Zhou Laoda arrived at Lao Zhou's house, he found that the dining table had been overturned and the dishes were broken all over the floor. Zhou Lao Er was lying on the ground, motionless with blood all over his head, and Chen Caocao was lying on top of him, crying.
Zhou Daya sat on the ground beside him, silently shedding tears. Both sides of her face were swollen, and there were clear five-finger marks. Zhou Laosan sat to the side, grimacing, but no external injuries could be seen.
Old Man Zhou, Old Woman Zhou, and the fourth son and his wife are all unharmed. It seems that only the second son's family was beaten up, given how fierce the commotion was.
Old Zhou frowned and cursed inwardly. Why did the Zhou family have to be so tough at home? What business was it of his to call him over?
However, despite his complaints, he couldn't just ignore it and leave. He could only stand there, but he didn't intend to intervene. He just watched along with everyone else.
The other villagers who were watching were whispering among themselves, but Zhou the eldest and the five brothers remained expressionless and silent, standing aside from the matter.
"Everyone, please be the judge. This second son is a bastard. His third brother and his wife were seriously injured when they fought the refugees last time. Now, this second son actually doesn't care whether his third brother and his wife live or die. They can't even have a peaceful meal. He even makes his children fight with his third brother for food. If they don't let them, he beats them. Don't you think this scoundrel deserves to be beaten?"
Old Zhou kept rambling on and on, constantly cursing Zhou Lao Er, saying that Zhou Lao Er was heartless and took advantage of his misfortune. As soon as Old Zhou finished speaking, Old Zhou's wife immediately joined in the cursing, saying as many hurtful things as possible.
Zhou Laoda's head was buzzing as he listened, and he couldn't help but say, "Everyone in the village knows what kind of person Lao Er is. How could such an honest person like him start a fight and call everyone here? Either tell the truth or don't say anything at all."
Zhou the eldest took a breath and continued, "The second son's head is covered in blood. Instead of helping him get treatment, you're just spouting useless nonsense. Is there anything more important than your son's life?"
“That’s right, Zhou Lao Er is bleeding so much, if the bleeding isn’t stopped, someone could die,” a villager chimed in.
“We’re from the same village. We know what kind of person the second brother is. Uncle, are you not telling the truth?” The villagers all questioned Old Man Zhou at once.
"You know nothing, I..." Old Zhou wanted to say something more.
The village chief, not wanting to listen to his nonsense, interrupted, "Save people first, we can talk about other things later."
The Zhou family is really difficult to deal with. Just now, when they tried to save someone, Old Man Zhou and Old Lady Zhou made a huge scene, threatening to kill themselves, so no one dared to step forward.
After being yelled at by Boss Zhou, they didn't utter another word. These two old folks are just bullies who prey on the weak. Before the family was divided, Boss Zhou and his wife and sons suffered a lot at their hands. But after Boss Zhou's family stood up, Boss Zhou and his wife didn't dare to do anything to them.
However, Zhou Lao Er's family suffered terribly. They were bullied to death by their parents and two younger brothers. Today, they finally stood up for themselves, but before they could even say anything, their heads were smashed. The Zhou family was determined not to let Zhou Lao Er's family escape their control.
With everyone's help, Zhou Lao Er was helped up and brought into the house to lie on the bed. Chen Caocao washed him clean with a basin of water, and she begged Zhou Lao Da with tears streaming down her face.
"Big brother, I know your family knows about herbs. Could you please give some medicine for Second Brother? I beg you." With that, he knelt down in front of Boss Zhou.
Startled, Old Zhou immediately jumped away. He didn't want to be forced to kneel before Chen Caocao, so he quickly moved aside. He really didn't want to deal with this family, but everyone was watching him, and if he didn't, people would criticize him.
"I don't have many medicines left at home. After the New Year, I was busy helping the Song family build a house, and it was also spring plowing season, so I didn't have time to go up the mountain to collect herbs."
So you understand what he means, right?
Don't ask him for medicine so often in the future. He's just wasting his time going up the mountain to dig up herbs, then drying and grinding them into powder, only for these people to benefit from them. It's infuriating to think about.
