Chapter 86 The Song Family Moved In

Because Xingxing's face was injured, Zhao Guihua slept with Xingxing and Ruru at night, while Zhou Laoda slept alone. There were no leisure activities in the evening, and he went to bed early after dinner.

Zhao Guihua was half asleep when she heard a noise outside. She suddenly sat up abruptly. There was no way she could be blamed for her strong reaction; she was still terrified by the refugee crisis.

Once she woke up, she couldn't sleep peacefully. She got up, put on her shoes, and tiptoed out the door. As soon as she closed the door and turned around, she was startled by a figure.

"It's me, don't shout, don't wake the children." Old Zhou was quick, stepping over and covering her mouth.

Zhao Guihua was stunned for a moment, then pried his hand off and said irritably, "Are you trying to scare me to death in the middle of the night?"

"Shh, keep your voice down. I'm not trying to scare you, but I heard some noise next door, so I came out to check it out. You came out too, didn't you?" Boss Zhou whispered.

“I was afraid something might happen, so I came out to check,” Zhao Guihua replied in a low voice. “It sounds like someone from the Song family next door has moved in.”

After the house in Yegou Village was built, it remained empty, but it was fully furnished and ready for people to move in at any time.

It's truly baffling why the Song family chose to move in quietly in the middle of the night.

Zhou Laoda and Zhao Guihua went to the backyard, quietly opened the back door, and peered into the distance through the darkness, only vaguely seeing a few carriages and some figures.

After observing for a while and confirming that someone from the Song family had moved in and that nothing had happened, Zhou Laoda and Zhao Guihua quietly closed the back door and went back to their room to sleep.

As dawn broke, Zhao Guihua got up to make breakfast. When she came out of her room, she saw that Zhou Laoda was also up, so she asked him to go to the vegetable garden in the backyard to water the vegetables with fertilizer.

Recently, they've had a lot of farmyard manure, chicken, duck, rabbit, and dog droppings. A couple of days ago, they caught two piglets to raise. Combined with the manure from the outhouse, their rice seedlings are growing better than others this year, and the yield will definitely be high.

Zhou Erfu and Zhou Sifu got up very conscientiously to recite their lessons. Whether they can eat meat next month depends on their performance. Today, they even got up earlier than Zhou Dafu and Zhou Sanfu.

However, they are still memorizing the Thousand Character Classic, while Dafu and Sanfu have already started memorizing the Four Books and Five Classics.

Zhou Erfu and Zhou Sifu recited the texts for half an hour, then ran to the backyard to find Zhou Laoda and asked him to listen to them recite. This time they really put in the effort, and after two months they finally memorized the Three Character Classic, the Thousand Character Classic, and the Hundred Family Surnames.

“Recite it to your mother again. She says if you pass, you can start eating meat.” Old Zhou smiled as he sent his two sons away.

When the aroma of meat wafted from the kitchen, Xingxing sniffed, rolled over, buried her head in the blanket, and stuck her little bottom out.

Ruru opened her eyes at this moment. She looked at Xingxing, who was wiggling around like a little piglet, and asked with her mouth slightly open, "Sister, what are you doing? What's fun in the blanket?"

Xingxing paused in her huddling under the covers, then poked her little head out a moment later. She looked at Ruru with a smile and said, "Just playing around, nothing much. Oh, I smell meat! Let's get up and have breakfast quickly."

Little Star quickly changed the subject. She always slept alone in town, while Ruru always slept with her aunt. Last night was the first time they shared a bed, so she didn't know that Ruru had a little habit of crawling into the blankets and wriggling around in the morning.

Her mother didn't know, because her mother always got up before her. Just now, she thought Ruru wouldn't wake up so quickly, so she curled up in the blanket.

Oh dear, her little secret has been discovered! She'll pretend nothing happened and make Ruru forget about it quickly.

Xingxing ran quickly out of the room, and then ran back a little while later. She ran to the table by the kang (a heated brick bed), picked up the small bronze mirror and looked at herself, and then ran quickly to the kitchen.

"Mom, Xingxing's face isn't swollen anymore, and a big scab has formed." Xingxing tilted her little face up so Zhao Guihua could see.

Zhao Guihua put down the spatula, squatted down to look at her daughter's face, and found that the swelling had indeed gone down and the scraped skin had now scabbed over. "It seems that the medicine powder is quite effective. If we apply it for a few more days, the scabs should fall off."

"Xingxing's face doesn't hurt anymore, but when I looked in the mirror, I felt that Xingxing was a bit ugly. If I went to school, Niu Jingui would definitely laugh at me." Niu Jingui was also Gu Fuzi's teacher, one of the five students he took in before Xingxing and the quintuplets.

Niu Jingui is eight years old this year. His family owns a jewelry shop and is quite well-off. However, he is spoiled and loves to swear, so he couldn't get into Jiang Xiucai's private school and was sent to Master Gu's school instead.

On their first day of school, Xingxing and the others were picked on by Niu Jingui. Later, they were almost beaten up by Zhou Erfu. However, Niu Jingui was truly precious. He had two servants accompanying him to the private school. When Niu Jingui was in class, the two servants would guard the courtyard.

Two servants blocked him, so Zhou Erfu failed to hit Niu Jingui. Later, Zhou Erfu and Niu Jingui were punished by the teacher to stand for an hour and to copy the Thousand Character Classic thirty times.

After school, Zhou Erfu arranged to fight Niu Jingui outside. However, in the end, Zhou Erfu fought with his two servants. Niu Jingui was two years younger than him and was not used to physical exercise, so he was no match for him and had to send his servants to fight for him.

Zhou Erfu didn't take advantage of him either. Although the two servants were only fourteen or fifteen years old, he wasn't afraid at all. However, he was still at a disadvantage when fighting two against one. Later, Zhou Sifu stepped forward to help and they won.

“This is a matter between us men. If you go back crying and complaining, you’ll be a coward and a wimp. If you’re not satisfied, you can come back to me for another fight, but you can’t resort to underhanded tactics, or you’ll be a coward.” Zhou Erfu was worried that if he went back and complained, Niu Jingui’s family would come looking for him, and his parents wouldn’t be able to fight against the Niu family.
